- This is the full length trip report with natural sounds and on-trail commentary from a 3-day backpacking adventure that Trent, Austin and I took to the Harper Creek Wilderness Study Area in May 2023. We covered ~18 miles and had dozens of water crossings on this trip in the Wilson Creek area of North Carolina's Pisgah National Forest.

Thanks for the feedback PopPop, glad you liked the maps on this one. Maps will vary a bit for the near future based on filmings that have already taken place but I plan to do the daily breakdowns filming going forward
One of the prettiest areas in the Carolinas. Pisgah is a hiker's dream. You guys should have web feet by now.. Thanks as always for a top shelf video Layne!
You're right about that Steve, a beautiful area! Web feet definitely would've helped with all that water.
Boy howdy, you sure spent a lot of time in the water. Surprised you didn't set up camp in a river. 😆
Dry time at camp was necessary to prevent trench foot with all that water!
Hey man! Great video, as always. Have a quick question though: what trailhead/road did you park by to start the hike where you did?
Thanks man, if I remember correctly we parked off Pineola Road at the North Harper Creek Falls trail. It should show where we start & end on the map shots

Shoot, one more thing I meant ask; how was the overnight parking there? Kind of sketchy, or pretty legit? To hike the same trail, we have parked on the Wislon Creek side (south of the area you entered), near Mortimer. As we have only day hiked it, I wasn't sure about overnight parking at the trailhead parking areas. Was there a parking pass or?
Thank you I appreciate the support! There was no pass required when we parked there. Take normal precautions like not leaving items in sight in your car etc. but I’m not aware of any sketchy problems there
Where can I get more info on this trail and would this be a good trail for a beginner.
The best resource for this trail is the free Wilson Creek / Lost Cove / Harper Creek map download for the free Avenza Maps app. This wouldn’t be a bad beginner trail but there was a couple tough miles - I’d suggest neighboring Lost Cove as a better beginner destination
@@LayneComfort Lost cove is where I want to go. But I can't find anything on where to park for that trail
That Avenza map I mentioned shows trailheads for parking. At Hunt-Fish Falls is one option
