  • Tim Ingold is Professor Emeritus of Social Anthropology at the University of Aberdeen and is also a Fellow of the British Academy and the Royal Society of Edinburgh. He has carried out fieldwork among Saami and Finnish people in Lapland, and has written on environment, technology and social organisation in the circumpolar North, on animals in human society, and on human ecology and evolutionary theory.
This is the first in a series of eight seminars called Technologies of Presence in Times of Absence that seeks to generate a space for discussion and reflection on the relevance of technologies of presence, defined as practices that deepen our relationship with ourselves and with our environment, for the challenges we face in current times. From May to December 2024, we will meet every first Tuesday of the Month.
These seminars are brought to you through a collaboration of A MATHA Escola de Fenomenologia Corporal and NEPSIS (Núcleo de Pesquisa em Saúde e Uso de Substâncias) of the Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP).

I love the way Timothy Ingold thinks ! I’m surprised by his implementation of the 150 year rule. In light of the ‘great acceleration’, it seems that measurements themselves have shifted.
