It looks slow. Is it a limit of the relays or youre just not pushing the clock too high? I onces repaier a car relay and toying with it i remember i could do about 1khz before it started not making good contact. Any chance of a video with the program running full speed?
This is deliberately running pretty slow at about 5Hz so I can watch the operations visually and make sure they're working as expected. The upper limit on speed will really be determined by the propagation delay of operations through the whole machine, and I won't know what that is until the whole thing is assembled.
Clickety Clack Well in case it doesnt go too high, try liquid nitrogen. It might work. No, but in all seriousness, liquid nitrogen might actually work. It would lower the coils resistance, (that helps a bit for the current slope) and then with the cooling and lower resistance you can raise the voltage to get an even steeper slope and higher current that should help activate the relays a bit faster. (Until the core saturates) But after all that its the contacts innertia and the propagation time that sets the limit. The other option would be reed relays but im not sure about those and for what i can imagine the coils would have to be super thin and with lots of turns so theyd have to operate with high voltage (60-150V) to get a quick response with low currents. better just use vaccum tubes in that case xD

45 was chosen at random. The registers are 16 bits each so the they can count up to 65,535.
