ISLE OF DOGS tells the story of ATARI KOBAYASHI, 12-year-old ward to corrupt Mayor Kobayashi. When, by Executive Decree, all the canine pets of Megasaki City are exiled to a vast garbage-dump called Trash Island, Atari sets off alone in a miniature Junior-Turbo Prop and flies across the river in search of his bodyguard-dog, Spots. There, with the assistance of a pack of newly-found mongrel friends, he begins an epic journey that will decide the fate and future of the entire Prefecture.

Being someone who likes to work with their hands, I appreciated this movie on a whole nother level!
The characters and sets were fantastic! Hats off to the people who's various skills came together to make it happen.
I really wish they would have put a time-lapse montage of the character creation, set creation, and animation in the credits of the movie so that people could see what was involved in making this.
Yeah! I think Boxtrolls did a skit on animators at the end and Kubo on set dressing and remote animation. As a set dresser, I've always loved to work on stop motion sets (even though they were not on the scale of Laika or Wes Anderson ^^)
The entire movie was eye candy and looked more real than life itself even though it's stop motion. Super smooth
I hate this movie for not having better marketing. I hate waiting for weeks and found out it's not playing in any theater in my area and practically nobody ever heard of this movie. I love it, but it makes me sad when a huge effort like this being ignored and CGI slugfest movies are getting all the recognition.

I just saw it at the theater and it was breath taking
The scene when the two dogs and the boy are floating down the sewer is so gorgeous in the movie! My jaw dropped when I saw it. Truly one of a kind, and I loved seeing how they did it! Thank you to the crew for producing a unique work of art!

the ultimate testament of practical effects
Excluding all of the digital effects. Awesome stop-motion. Know, though, that every single frame has digital effects as well.
Always compositing (think green screen), and lots of removing the rigs that hold the miniatures. All of the characters’ mouths were little plugs the stop motion folks popped in and out, so every frame where someone is talking had those seams removed, etc.

Very nearly 0% of any film is without some kind of vfx, which isn’t a bad thing.

Wow, I’m blown away by how many details they put into this movie. Those whirlpools literally appeared for one second, and they built an entire and complex set for that!
Fascinating, funny, detailed & thought provoking. Amazing crafts & creativity to bring this story to life. I loved the Movie. Watched it in Adelaide, South Australia, last night. Many thanks.

when is there gonna be a documentary on how this was filmed? i saw numerous artists and set designers speaking in this video that did not have audio to them and i really want to hear what they have to say.
by the looks of it, this seems to be part of a making of documentary already completed or in the makings, that will be included in the BR release.

I saw this move in a "Budget" theatre 4 days ago. After I saw this video, I felt bad. I felt I underpaid. I LOVE this movie. I'd like to send more money to the creator so they can make more of the same...Where can I send more money???
Ed Loki buy the special edition dvd or some merchandise, that way you are raising the revenue of the movie and therefore giving money to the studio.
