They’ll appear as a random encounter in special areas after you beat them, so you can easily get their boss chip after you have better chips. 3: You never want more than one or two program advance combos at once since they’ll clog your folder if they don’t mess well with each other. 4: Don’t worry about grinding for money to get every upgrade early on. You’ll be swimming in zenny by the later half of the game and can come back to buy everything you wanted. 5: Don’t be afraid to use the new cheat mode when traveling the net. Random encounters proc often and it can get annoying. If you are trying to get to your next story beat or are having trouble with a puzzle, go ahead and turn it on to make it go faster.
Starting with 1 as someone who played the DS version of 5 years ago, I can say that I've been having fun with it. That said, a few copies of the Bass chip definitely helps with that and now that I'm fairly late into the game, having access to other screen clearing chips is a gods send for backtracking through old areas.

@@nicoopiee Hey, I'm kind of a newcomer as well, and I've been using it here and there on BN1. Pretty much you can turn it on/off anytime anywhere, when you turn it on, your megamans auto attacks will one shot all the enemies instead of just doing 1-2 damage. When I enter new areas and boss battles, I play normally, but I found it to be very convenient when exploring area's i've already been to as i dont feel like battling those same regular enemies over and over again and it gets those battles over with very quickly. You can turn the feature on and off whenever with zero repercussions.
A warning for compression codes in BN3. Unlike BN5 and BN6, you do not have the option of uncompressing a navi-customiser part. This is especially concerning for a few specific pieces like Sneakrun and Fish, which have a one-tile notch that is lost and actually makes them harder to place on the command line.
You guys are so stupid A newcomer would play battle network 1 and hate it so much theyll never play it again But if they start with 3, they will love it and if they want to they can go back and try the earlier games
MBN 3 is the MM2 of the exe series. Bn 3 has the best plot but the combat is not balance at all, but is fun 4 is shit. 5 is one of the best ones, but the best ver is double team DS but is stuck on DS. BN 6 has the best combat, the story was just fine.
Battle Network 3 Blue was my jump on point.Customization wise I'd say to try out as many styles as possible, you'll get programs that better the experience.
I started with Battle Network 1 and have a blast playing it, I personally wouldn't recommend starting with later entries because a series goes through a lot of improvements and when you go from 6 back to 1, you will probably miss many quality of life changes and tactical evolutions.
I learned a long time ago that Stone is a decent chip. I would put one down to hid behind it for a bit and then when I got a guts man chip or wind blower chip I was send it to the other send into the enemy doing a ton of damage. Also my entry to the series was 3 Blue. And I say it should be for everyone as well. As it is the best place to start.
BN4 Blue Moon was my entry point, and it's close to my heart for that reason. Yea, I got tired of playing the story 3 times, but I did get all the way to a 5th playthrough. This game was my gateway drug into the rest of the BN games. Aside from the repetitive nature, this game is a solid start for the 2nd BN trilogy.
Hey man this video is great even for a veteran like me, it’s been a long time since I’ve actually got to sit down and play these games. I’m finally able to enjoy the collection and this helped alot! Thank you :) I hope you make more videos on these games!
Yeah, I'm one of those people that care about starting a series from the beginning, and playing it in the intended order, so idc what you say, I'm starting from the beginning.
This was quite helpful granted I knew most of the information but there are some info even I didn’t know. Thank you for the video, hopefully soon I can grab the collection next week and relive the BN experience again
Great video! I was shocked to see the amount of views this video had and even more shocked seeing the sub count. You deserve way more dude! Quality videos like this are hard to find so pls keep it up!
Hilariously, BN4 blue moon was my intro to the series. Got it for Christmas one year, and absolutely loved the game, even though the atrocious translations and repetitive nonsense made it unbearable to try and beat. Got BN2 from a pawn shop a few years later, loved it. Got a custom wide screen gba/NDS to play the others in the series and have never been disappointed by those
Have to agree with that comment about 1. I've played 3 and up so I decided to give 1 a shot to see where it all started and it's really flawed (understandably). After about 5 hours into it, I mostly gave up and just turned out the Max Buster setting to at least get through the story.
I feel you on one. I managed to make it to the end but cheesed the final boss(only intended to buster max it's shield once but it died lol) and refused to do the endgame content. It was the electric area with the invisibility that did it for me. I was mentally checked out after that 😂.
@@ThatGuy-en2nn I'm doing the electric invincibility grid right now and I'm starting to hate the game with a passion..I don't even feel like playing..going to use a walkthrough
@@80stallone Definitely use the guide 😂. Oh and save when it tells you to. There's a nasty surpise when you get to the boss. You might lose and it's good to have a save right there.
I mainly started playing because of the anime and beginning with BN4, but still enjoyed the series even when I backtracked and found BN 1-3 cartridges at GameStop.
Some tips from my childhood playing MMBN3 too much so it mostly applies to that game (though after playing the others most of it will also apply to every other game 1) don't get too hung up on getting the S rank against boss navi's the first time round. While it is possible to do so with luck on your side to get a fast enough time and getting knowledgeable/skilled enough to avoid all the attacks... sometimes I don't think it's even possible to get their unique chip. Yesterday I was even playing the legacy collection and doing repeated runs against Beastman trying to get a feel for the game again, eventually got the S rank... and no chip, just the standard zenny reward. And you don't even have access to Higsby's shop, so it's very likely that whatever chip folder you have, even at it's most optimal, wont have the firepower to even get S unless you roll your first turn well and get an antidamage out. Thankfully, just by exploring the net you'll find key spots in areas after story events where boss navi's appear a second time (and after a certain period of time they'll respawn after you beat them again). So you can unlock their mega chips and even better versions of them if you get a S rank or face their stronger designations (Beta, Omega etc.). Tip 2) Those defensive chips he mentioned are also really good because sometimes they are the key to consistently using the most offensive chips in the game - some of them needing objects like a block in place or a hole in the floor (Bolt and Fountain/Salamndr respective). Tip 3) In any of the games where style change is a thing you'll want to remember that you have no control over your first element, its always random, and certain style types are either impossible to get right away (Bug Style/Shadowstyle) or are very tedious (Guts Style). If your wanting guts as soon as you hit the story point where styles are unlocked and are mad enough like me you can make the playthrough slower by intentionally leaving enemies low and finishing them with the mega buster (and even then I suspect that I'll mess up and still get too many invisible points towards team or custom), you can find the point right before the style change happens and grind low level Mettaur to death, or you can do the sane thing and just wait till you know whether or not you got what you wanted... because if your looking for a certain element (which all have different pro/cons + unique charge shots) your going to grind again anyway... I'd probably advice option 3. Don't be me. Don't gamba that both of these things will align the first time and make your first return playthrough in the legacy edition or an older copy hell. Or make a first time run unenjoyable.
As a kid I started with BN3 and I wasn’t too lost. Although seeing characters like Shun/Sean show up had me a little lost in 3’s story context. Starting with 3 or 5 or 6 would be good to not turn off newcomers, but I don’t think I could recommend it. Imagine starting with BN6 then going back to BN1, that would be disastrous. Plus aside from getting character context and plot context if you start at the beginning you can later see the vast improvements BN2 made and that BN3 fine tuned. Plus you want to build up to the apex of the series which is 6’s customization and most balanced pvp if you’re interested in that. Although be warned you can’t run from random encounters in BN1 without the Escape chip, so I can’t look down on those that use the new Buster Max and Download Special Chips (Bass) feature there. They can always turn off the Buster max during boss fights anyway for the more realistic intended challenge.
My first megaman game I ever played was battle network 1 then I got Mega Man Battle Network 6: Cybeast Falzar. I only got into Megaman because of the Nt warrior show. Haven't played any other Megaman games but I am playing them from the start as I got the collection for my birthday on Friday
Man how right u are about the first game personally i got the new switch collection of all the games and played the first till the ice level remembered that horrid exp and swapped to the second game lol at least for now...also the fifth was was my first intro to the serious with protoman
I sprinted through the first one. Having played the whole series I agree that the first one just doesn't have the mechanics that became available starting in the second game. Also it's really validating to hear that 4 was the weakest entry in the series. Watching your video just got me more excited to keep playing. I'm on 2 right now, and my only gripe is that I got shield style for my first AND second style.
Styles learned are correlated to what chips you used in the battles beforehand, so you may want to use BusterMax with a folder of different chips to try to reroll
I started with BN1 even though i heard it is absolutely garbage. I am enjoying it so far and I use max buster to shorten grinding so its been fun. The maps are extremely confusing but in a fun way since i have max buster to quickly eliminate random encounters once they start to get tedious/boring
Just a heads up, but for MMBN3, you CANNOT uncompress NaviCust programs. While this might seem trivial at first, there are actually certain programs that have more beneficial shapes, such as the Fish, OilBody, Battery and Jungle programs, which form a 2x2 square with one tile jutting out of them. The reason it's important is that if you compress them, it turns into a 2x2 square, meaning you are forced to take up 2 squares in the command line on the NaviCust, when you can fit in more programs on the command line if you aligned the uncompressed version so that the singular square is placed on the command line. If you compress those programs then it'll make certain NaviCust builds impossible without it producing unwanted bugs. (And yes, while SOME bugs are beneficial, some of them are enough of an inconvenience that you'd wanna avoid them.)
I feel like if I don’t start at 1 I can’t appreciate the QOL changes in later ones. And if the QOL is removed going back to previous ones it’s a shame because I’m probably not gonna go back and play the older ones.
You know what's funny? The first MMBN game I ever played was 6 Falzar(probably misspelled that, I didn't bother to fact check😂) I knew next to nothing about the lore of the series, including the Program Advances (or P.A. for sort). The first time I did a P.A. was a complete accident ( it was LifeSword btw), and I didn't know what was going on or what happened, I was 12 when I first played this game(I'm 29 now for context) and asking my friend from school I traded this game for didn't help. I also am a fan of the anime series(for better or worse) and seeing that my first ever P.A. in game was the same ever mentioned in the TV series really set both, the anime and game, as my favorite franchise of all time!😂👍😁
Great points but I still feel like you should just do them in order to truly appreciate it , I say 1-3 us the blaster max so you can speed run through them just for story as well as the limited bass chip you can put in the game. Makes things a lot easier being that random encounters are extremely high in the earlier games . All in all play how y’all want and just enjoy the experience 😎💪🏽💯
I fondly remember the NT Warrior anime and wanted to get into Megaman, but the platformers are too hard for me. I looked into battle network because I like the combat system, so I gave MMBN2 a shot, but the game is so mazey, not to mention the chip system which looks like it'll be a lot to manage later on. I couldn't continue without a guide which defeats the purpose of the game. I just felt overwhelmed and didn't want to continue. I just think Megaman games are not my thing. It's a shame, I'd really love to play a chill and casual RPG with that battle system.
woo bn3 was my first one! i had white though. but can confirm good entry point, bc i sure got into it from that! (and i'm bad at the regular games/side scrollers lol) i also don't think I ever knew about compression codes! but i only played 3w and 5ds for the longest time lol.
I just finished collecting all 10 games on gba got them in cases. Was expensive af but i finally got my prepubescent nostalgia complex secured. Idk what this dude os talking abt but BN 1 is fantastic all of them are amazing lol
While Battle network 3 has the best story, Battle network 1 is needed for that story to properly hit. My personal recommendation would be to simply start with BN1 or try out BN6 gameplay for a boss or two then try BN1
As a veteran of this game series. I can agree from personal experience that mmbn 4 is a really flawed game. I still remember how long it took me maybe 2 years to finish the game cause of how difficult it is to go through certain gates due to lack of explaination of how to go through them. I can also agree that picking just any chip can be difficult especially against navis when every chip you choose have a different letter. What I really like to see is the dbl bass soul once I get to mmbn 5 sometime if it's included. If not that's okay. Just good to play this game series again
I don’t normally like or sub when people ask but in this case I am, bc this is a great vid and you deserve more views. Please make more and capitalize on the legacy collection’s release & popularity, would love to see more battle network content from you! I am certain you could start growing a decent following easily if you keep this up
I heavily disagree with tip 1. It sounds good on paper but it's absolutely terrible in practice. Think about it: sure, you might not give too much of a thought to story, plot and characters but at least the gameplay will leave an impression. Someone starts at BN3, then go to BN1, they're gonna quit in 10 mins because the games continuously improve as the series go by. They're not the type of games where QoLs vary. Start with BN1, then and only then, if you genuinely feel like this ain't for you, go to BN2. Because BN2 is miles ahead of BN1, it should at least tell that at least if you don't like it, you're not gonna like the rest of the series and get a refund. But really, you should just start with 1. You can only make the comparison for yourself if BN1 is bad or not after you played it first, then played the other ones. Don't jump titles, please.
Great video! I can tell you put a lot of work into it :) I also made a tips video for the BN series! Give you a follow on both Twitch and Twitter, looking forward to seeing your upcoming BN videos!
Only played 4 and 5 (Double Team version) .... have to say I do not get the hate for 4. I prefered 4 to 5. When I enter new areas and boss battles, I play normally, but I found it to be very convenient when exploring area's i've already been to as i dont feel like battling those same regular enemies over and over again and it gets those battles over with very quickly. You can turn the feature on and off whenever with zero repercussions.
@@mechacharizard101 wow thank you for the thorough explanation!!! appreciate that alot!!!
@@nicoopiee No problem, I have seen nothing but positivity and helpfulness from this community as a newcomer myself so it feels good to pass that on!
If you have access to them all, why not start at the beginning? While it isn’t the best of the series, start at the beginning.
I would argue that you MUST start with mmbn1 because its hard to go back because the lack of qol
These are story-based games that build off each other. A beginner should totally start at the beginning.
yeah why would you suggest starting a series halfway in... wtf is this
You guys are so stupid
A newcomer would play battle network 1 and hate it so much theyll never play it again
But if they start with 3, they will love it and if they want to they can go back and try the earlier games
The first game is very annoying though NGL, since you can't escape battle unless you have the escape battle chip in your folder 😭
Still, you can really start from any of the games and not be lost at all
I agree but starting on 1 might turn people away with the confusing net. I suggest at least starting on 2.
MBN 3 is the MM2 of the exe series.
Bn 3 has the best plot but the combat is not balance at all, but is fun
4 is shit.
You should play MMBN3 and 6 Gregar like any Megaman fans should do.
3 offers solid post game content and 6 offers solid customization.
The only beginners tip you guys need is: Save the game all the time. If you die, you start where you last saved.
Very informative and well made. I would always get stuck on woodmon in MMBN 1.
Might have to give it another try.
I cannot believe Im seeing a new megaman battle network video after so long :') so happy they made a return
Megaman Battle Network 3 Blue was the first Megaman game I ever bought, and I still enjoy it.
I'm actually playing Megaman Battle Network 1 (it was first on the list), and I really like it.
Got a custom wide screen gba/NDS to play the others in the series and have never been disappointed by those
In recap of tip one, Start With 3 or 6, and then go back and play 1 and 2 as like a prequal. Skip 4 and maybe 5 if you don't like Liberation Missions.
Concerning Elemental Weaknesess: In Battlenetwork 6 there is another Element Wheel: Sword-> Wind -> Cursor- >Breaker -> Sword . Just be aware of this.
I mainly started playing because of the anime and beginning with BN4, but still enjoyed the series even when I backtracked and found BN 1-3 cartridges at GameStop.
I like 2, 5, and 6, and 4 is fun with its unique use of the mod card system! I really like the mod card system!
Thank you for the heads up about Invisible.
Yea first game was annoying back then I’m glad i started with 3. Really got me hooked and now with adult money i can go back and enjoy.
Just got the legacy collection for the switch. Thanks for this video!
From easiest to hardest: BN2 -> BN1 -> BN6 -> BN4 -> BN5 -> BN3 (although 5 and 3 are very close, both of them are VERY hard).
Great job, friend! Really informative and gave me a step back into my childhood. Thank you! :)
Amazing tips! I've been so excited to get back into BN!!
"I don't need instructions to know how to Rock, man!" Get it? 😅
All in all play how y’all want and just enjoy the experience 😎💪🏽💯
nice man, always good to see some Bn love
Very helpful for a newcomer like me! Thanks
Program Advances were also limited to once a battle in Battle Network 4 as well.
Thank you for covering g this!!!!
We can’t use the select button on the switch no wonder they don’t work needs to be update cause I’ve tried several times with the list
woo bn3 was my first one! i had white though. but can confirm good entry point, bc i sure got into it from that! (and i'm bad at the regular games/side scrollers lol)
i also don't think I ever knew about compression codes! but i only played 3w and 5ds for the longest time lol.
Newcomer here. Started with 1 today
I just finished collecting all 10 games on gba got them in cases. Was expensive af but i finally got my prepubescent nostalgia complex secured. Idk what this dude os talking abt but BN 1 is fantastic all of them are amazing lol
I entered with 4 back in the day. I'll do it again lol. 6 is my favorite. 5 my least favorite.
1) I highly recommend to play the first through sixth because you’ll see quality of the games rise and drop with the fan base.
Me walking past a random object spamming R1
“You son of a bitch. Jack in”
You know someone is a true fan when they struggle to avoid talking about all a games flaws
While Battle network 3 has the best story, Battle network 1 is needed for that story to properly hit. My personal recommendation would be to simply start with BN1 or try out BN6 gameplay for a boss or two then try BN1
Fun fact I never played the Battle Network games but I always watched the anime on Kids WB
Just got this on steam. thanks
Great video. Helped a lot!
Started on 3 since that was the only one I've played and never finished it. I forgot how hard these games are.
I don’t normally like or sub when people ask but in this case I am, bc this is a great vid and you deserve more views. Please make more and capitalize on the legacy collection’s release & popularity, would love to see more battle network content from you! I am certain you could start growing a decent following easily if you keep this up
Thank you for the tips!
Solid! Subbed!
Did the game release now???
nice video man, keep going hahahaha
Great video! I can tell you put a lot of work into it :)
I also made a tips video for the BN series! Give you a follow on both Twitch and Twitter, looking forward to seeing your upcoming BN videos!
Only played 4 and 5 (Double Team version) .... have to say I do not get the hate for 4. I prefered 4 to 5. Allthough I am a bitch for exploration and tournament arcs. 4 Is essentially 3 big tournaments chained together with a "random" selection of enemies. On each different playthrough you get other enemies. I played the shit out of 4 and really loved it.
I was lucky, the fire mmbn I played was 3 blue, one of the best. Then Falzar, a great upgrade.
I didn't think redsun was bad. It's my favorite of them all.
I owned redsun. Thats the best one !!!
Personally I first played 3 thought it was great and then played 4-6 and lastly 1/2. Honestly 2 or 3 is the best to start with. 1 is just too raw. 6 overall is prob the most balanced though and most well made. Honestly 4/1 are fine to skip unless u really just want the full story and connection with the other games
BN4 was my first entry to the franchise confuse as why it gets the hate it does I loved personally with the story mega man dark soul etc
i started wi mmbn1 then got mmbn3 white. now iv got legacy on my switch. ima have fun going through the story
Well made video!
14:11 a wild ass appears
thank you
