Thanks for doing my request. You've recognized the "special guest instrument", the (most likely edited) 56K Modem! :D
It's amazing how Orden Ogan mixed digital effects and electronic music with power metal. This is normally frowned upon in the metal scene (and to be honest, at first I've thought my CD was somewhat broken or something messed up while ripping), but I've found nobody who hated this aspect of the song yet. This together with Seeb's vocals is just... Can I say I've got a metaphorical "music boner"? And It's getting even bigger by the fact that you've enjoyed it that much! :)
The album itself is also more leaning onto the sci-fi trope, it's almost completely placed into the near to far future (this one probably closer to the near future, together with "Hollow", others like "Heart of the Android" and "It is over" a lot further into the future) and often about the end of humanity (either for all of human kind or just your own humanity) while still staying fun and mostly uplifting. Their other works are set all over the time line, but always follow a certain theme. For example, "Gunmen" was set in the wild west, "Vale" and "Easton Hope" more into the 1700s losely following the story of their immortal and doomed mascot Alister Vale.
In case you want to dive a little deeper into Orden Ogan I'd say you'll enjoy "Till the Stars cry out" almost as much as this sing, it has no digital effects and sadly no modem, but has a very similar vibe and pace. "The Lords of the Flies" is a bit more melancholic and groovier and highlights the vocal abilities of Seeb in my opinion. If you enjoy cymbal work and uniqie sounds, "Nothing Remains" is your song.

OH god that dial up sound.....

@@user-yy7tw9hv9n Really surprising to hear that in a song and not just be slapped on top, but being tightly knit into the fabric of the song. At that point I've known I had to send it in as a special selection as soon as its possible again.

Such a cool song. I've liked this one since I first heard it, and just read the lyrics now which made it even better. Enjoyed your video mate.

Every one of their albums is a concept album about different things, different eras and give off different vibes, without making it feel like it's a different band. The way they twist power metal and add other elements to it makes it so much more fun to listen to than most of the power metal bands even though I love power metal. Their musicianship and production quality is always quite impressive. Always very creative and heavy enough. Truly an amazing band.

This is power metal, but at its best. Often power metal is incredibly cheesy and utilizes very high male vocals and nigh-impossibly virtuosic guitar-playing and is incredibly melody-based (see dragonforce, stratovarius or sonata arctica) which is often too much for me, although dragonforce does vibe every now and again. But bands like Orden Ogan, Sabaton and Powerwolf utilize lower and “harsher” vocals combined with riff- and groove-based writing to create a much more human and (in my opinion) epic version of the genre that has just the right amount of cheese without being overwhelming.

in a sense, they are more like the early days Power Metal Bands, at a time when Powermetal was also kinda just Speedmetal.
      Blind Guardian and the likes.

Good to see you enjoy and analyse the song. I was listening to the end of your speech at 2x speed and just wanna say your outro works suprisingly well in that speed too :D

I know exactly how you feel about embellishment. It's really those little details that keep my ear on track, without them my ear will get very bored very quickly.
Also, Orden Ogan is one of those bands where every album is a different theme. This one is about A.I. taking over, obviously, but there are many more. My personal favorite album is Gunmen followed closely by Ravenhead. Orden Ogan is a rare band where every song is of similar quality. They are very "standard" though. They just do it so well, and Seeb is the master of the chorus. Literally every single Orden Ogan song has a banging chorus.
Also, most of the cool cymbal sounds you hear are either inverted ride bells, or trash stacks. Trash stacks are two cymbals put together in varying configurations, often having holes in one or both the cymbals. Trash stacks sound kinda like a mix between a china and a metal trash can lid.

As a huge Orden Ogan and Star Trek Fan, the Geordie LaForge comment had me grinning. Most Orden Ogan albums have a theme. This album is all sci-fi, they've had a western themed album in the past too, called Gunman.

Fun track. Power metal is one of my favorite metal genres when it's done really well--it's basically metal's own "pop" music given its focus on hooks and melody--but even when it's not top-tier material it's still, at the very least, enjoyable. I wouldn't put this at the top tier of power metal--I think the guitar/drum work and melody are all just a bit generic--but it's still decent. Best power metal song (one of the best metal songs, period) I've heard in years is The Wind That Shapes the Land from Unleash the Archers off their latest album. I've listened to the crap out of that over the last year or so.

Quite good. Kind of power metal with a Fear Factory like theme. Bryan, you may want to watch Jinjer's set from Hellfest that's just been put on the Arte Concert channel. I've seen them live and got the live in Melbourne album, but it seems Tatiana has got even better live during lockdown, which I didn't think was possible. It's exceptionally good!

Hey. Do you remember reacting to King Crimson, that weird progressive rock/jazz band? The video got deleted but I would be glad to see you check out the track "The Court of the Crimson King" from the album of the same name. This album is one of,if not the most important and influential progressive rock album, and it's their most accessible too, without being TOO simple, it's just more cohesive than their other work you reacted to (Fracture).

If they end up fitting another theme then we'll probably see them again and I'll do the usual thing for blocked videos.
