Making the Ranalah Signposts (with Honest Jon)

  • เผยแพร่เมื่อ 10 ก.ย. 2022
  • In the previous video, I began sign painting the new Ranalah wheeling machines ready for their outing at Goodwood Revival. This week, I'm attempting to make the metal signs and fabricate the brackets that will be hanging on them at the event.
Goodwood revival is one of the largest classic and historic car racing and show events in the country, the revive and thrive area is a celebration of heritage crafts and skills with demonstrations from master craftspeople.
The signs I have made are made on the very first of the new Ranalah english wheeling machines I have spent over a year working on restoring and remaking and engineering the machine.
Thanks for watching! If you're enjoying my journey, please subscribe for free! You'll receive notifications when I upload a new video - every Sunday at 5pm (GMT)!

Dom, for transferring the paper image onto metal (or almost any other surface for that matter) I have found over the years that using old fashioned carbon tracing works really well. It will wash/polish off easily afterwards.

And I noticed, only background music [no dialogue] when you were both on the rolling machine - is that because John might have offered to give you a 'male-appendage-extension' with a quick turn of the lever...?

Often if I'm routing a circle I will double sided tape/glue gun a piece of scrap in middle for the centre point to run on. That would work on your nibbler too and stop the centre point damaging the aluminum 👍

Nibbler is a fun tool but you could have had those CNC'd, already with clean edges, no centre mark to fill and ready to use. Then I'm biased 😉 You also need an air rivet gun or at he least a drill attachment riveter, it's so much easier.

  • @adrianlynch9435

To transfer the design - what about a small projector (some phones can do this) then a fine permanant pen to do the edge lines ?

LOL, think I might have gone for vinyl masks - at least you can fill it in by hand and make it look 'right' 🙂 Don't chastise me for my comment - you _are_ using a printout after all 🙂 Really nice and original job 'though - have to say the blue one is my favourite !

There is a visitor from Canada (I think) who has a You Tube channel “Richard Michael Owen” he and his father restore beautiful E Types and old XK’s plus other classic cars. He is coming to Goodwood next week and I think you would enjoy meeting. I guess you can send him a message via his channel? I hope Beaulieu was fun and enjoy Goodwood. Kind regards, Richard.

Hi Dom, On Sunday 11th Sept on Channel 5 at 8pm I watched "Millionaire Motorhomes". One chap was converting a Land Rover into a Motor home. It showed him working on the shell which was rather like an 'Airstream' in that it was made from formed aluminium sheet. It showed him forming part of the body on a bright orange "Ranalah". Can this possibly be one of yours?? Best Wishes, keep up the good work, great vlogs !!!
