How about citizens, especially those who own Maserati’s, which are targets for theft, get a clue and take their keys with them and lock their stupid cars? How did somebody that’s that stupid, become so successful to be able to own a Maserati? I always take my keys out of my car and lock it. Here’s what Florida needs to do. They did pass a law that says, if you don’t take your keys out of your car and lock it when you’re away from it and it gets stolen by somebody that’s just looking for keys in a car to steal it, then YOU should get fined a minimum of $10,000. It's not that they're victim blaming, the victim isnt going to be punished for their crime. It's that it's not worth an innocent bystander (and yes even the criminals lawfully speaking though I dont always agree) getting hurt or killed because of something the owner themselves didn't see fit to, at minimum, lock up. People over property. It's not like they couldn't see them from above so they can take their time on item recovery. Someone walking across the street or someone doing the speed limit being put in danger or a house being crashed into is not worth a car. They're just saying people should be considered priceless. There used to be a lot more accidents because of the pursuit themselves and they've cut back on those incidents. I was taught that back in the academy and that was almost 13 years ago now. It's just not worth people, especially the innocent. Besides, you'd think seeing their idiotic death would deter other criminals but it doesn't seem to and pursuits never seemed to either. Just lowering casualties.
Keondrick, Mario and Malachi...🙄...thenusual suspects. I can honestly say, I never could be found at age 15, sneaking out if the house, roaming the streets at 3:30 am, stealing a car, in possession of a stolen handgun. THE PARENTS OF THESE IDIOTS should be held 100% responsible. The parents should pay for the car, the emergency services, and the property damage. When there are no consequences and no accountability, there will be no change.
Shawn, stop looking for stupid excuses. The boys were wrong. I sick of criminals being treated like the good guys. They were looking for trouble and found it. These kids need to go to jail. Call a spade a spade. No excuses.
just think, stupidity of 4 not 3 . the owner being stupid to leave the keys in the unlocked car. and the 3 teens doing the crime. and I bet the insurance, if the owner had any. won't cover the car, beings the owner left the car unlocked, and the keys in it.
Shee-it....You leave KEYS behind to an unlocked car, I think you DESERVE to lose that car? If it's a high end Italian sports car, the owner perhaps deserves me laughing in his/her face? (And perhaps too the INSURANCE COMPANY deserves a hearty laugh when the owner wants to make a claim?? "You want this...($$$)... WHEN??🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 "Uh, I'm sorry--you didn't read the policy carefully....See this section here where acts of idiocy are not covered....Specifically leaving keys inside a locked and abandoned car...It's right here sir-- right above your signature"🤣🤣🤣
@@samuelschick8813 Pretty and "cool", but otherwise a piece of junk. I bet the owner couldn't wait to call his insurance company to get bailed out of it. Let's see: The owner parked the car overnight, next to the street, unlocked, with the key in the ignition. Why not just hang out a sign on it that says "steal me"? If that sounds weird, it's not. Decades go, I had a friend of challenged personal ethics who took his Corvair in to trade on a new car. The dealer won't take the Corvair at any price, so he did exactly what the owner here did. He lived in District of Columbia. The Corvair was gone in the morning, of course.
@@randallstewart175, I don't know if the owner set it up to happen of not, only the owner knows that. It also could be the owner is at an advanced age and simply forgot. @@randallstewart175, Would be interesting to find out the age groups of Maserati owners. As for " I doubt you find many geriatrics trolling the Masarati dealership" the youngest Boomers are are 58 and the oldest are 76. So there is a very good chance the owner might be of advanced age.
You guys need to stop blaming the person who left the keys in the car.. analyzing and dissecting things you know nothing about. What if you had a night out and left his keys in the car? I'm sure people have done that.. doesn't even need to be said
I get sick of seeing those comments too. It is actually blaming the victim. So, if someone is walking home and they get held up by one of these idiots and they steal their wallet (or purse), will they blame the guy carrying their wallet, or the lady carrying her purse? There was once a time when cars AND front doors could be left unlocked. But I agree - QUIT BLAMING THE DAMN VICTIM.
He simply made a good point. It's the same thing as locking your doors at night. Basic actions to prevent outcomes you don't want. No, leaving your keys in your car does not justify someone stealing it. You just made it easier to get stolen is all.

I am an America first constitutionalst ,but are sickened by the lack of respect for human life in these comments. I guess everyone here is perfect and never once let a friend talk you into doing something dumb. A child is dead and people make jokes about it, when you put value on one life , but not another you throw civilisation out the window. No matter how good of a parent you may think you are, young people sometimes act without thinking of the consequences. My heart breaks when I see fellow Americans making jokes that a car is worth more than a life.
We moved to Saint Petersburg Florida in November of 2018. We had kids while we were unloading our UHaul truck scoping our belongings out everyday! We learned very quickly that we needed to lock everything up! These kids are at fault for their actions!! So sad!!!!!
It's true that the surviving kids should take even more accountability than they (will?) However, when I was in the military, there was a reason a soldier could get in SERIOUS trouble for not securing his or her belongings (a.k.a. LOCKING THINGS UP) Dig what I'm saying?
You got that right-- to the kids and the doofus that leaves the keys to the ignition of some high end Italian sports car that probably costs over $100k.
That boy didn’t even realize he wouldn’t make it out of this last lick. Some children want nothing outta life except taking not knowing when it will be their last. This is heartbreaking and terribly sad
I live in a middle class area. I have 5 CCTV cameras around my home and a ring bell cam because 1) I've been burgled twice and once they kicked my little dog in the head, 2) my son's car was stolen right out of our driveway, 3) my car received a bullet intended for the drug dealer across the street. We also have cameras in our vehicles, which saved my son when a truck backed into his week old Shelby in a parking lot. The man said my son rear ended him, but cam footage proved otherwise.
And this is why taking guns from law abiding citizens, banning ANY type of firearm or imposing senseless restrictions on purchase (notice I said SENSELESS, not sensible) WILL NOT control ANY criminal from obtaining a weapon!
Commenters saying R.I.P. to the car? Really?! There is more to this tragedy than for the car owner. What about the pole, the landscape and possible personal property damage?

Maybe the vehicle owner will learn a lesson.
So I lock my stuff up because I know there are pieces of crap that steal. However people shouldn’t have to lock their stuff up. And to say they were kids doing stupid stuff is idiotic. Kids doing stupid stuff is trying to jump a bike off a unstable ramp or jumping off a roof with a homemade parachute. Stealing stuff isn’t just kids doing stupid things. They knew right from wrong. People need to stop condoning criminal behavior.
Absolutely no blame can be given to police, their actions and behaviour were exemplary and by the rule book. Sorry for the loss of life but there was nothing that could have been done differently. Thank you for letting the public know the real story. The commentary was to the point and very clear. Keep up the good work.
The sherrif's argument for not pursuing is the as saying "She was asking to get sexually assaulted because look at what she was wearing." If you leave your keys in your car by mistake or on purpose, no one has the right to steal it.
I haven't read every comment, but I haven't seen where anyone has questioned who in their right mind leaves there car unlocked with keys in it? Especially a Maserati. Sounds to me like he wanted it to get stolen.
Wow! Plenty of consciences here. Helicopter randomly patrolling sees kids, starts filming. Some owner of a Maserati leaves the cars keys in, unlocked. Suspicious kids do the suspicious thing and steal the unlocked Maserati with the keys in, unlocked. Helicopter captures entire chase. 1 kid dies.
I keep hearing that argument and it is beyond ridiculous. How can anyone be to blame for accidentally leaving keys in the car? How about this, don’t take other people’s shit.
Only those who refuse to take accountability of their own actions, would blame the car owner. They set out to do this, regardless of whether someone left keys in a vehicle, or not.
I didn't hear him say it was the car owners fault. I heard him say don't leave your keys in the car to make it easier to get stolen. Unfortunately, you can't stop people from committing crimes but you can protect your property to some extent that is controllable. Just like locking your home up at night or when you leave your house. You are protecting your house from getting robbed. Do your part and take the appropriate measures to protect your things. That's what I heard. COMMON SENSE!
Police had better start holding these Parents responsible for letting these kids run wild like this, this is happening all over the country right now in every city in the United States, plus get the ring leader.

Hmm... I just saw the street view of where they stole the car, they stole it from some house that was converted into a multi unit housing. Kind of a weird spot for a Maserati to be sitting in.
Vehicles have Locks and Keys to unlock them for a reason! This is not blaming the owner. This is saying that Locks should be locked least you have something valuable stolen.
Blame the owner...sure. Last time I checked it's not illegal (while also not bright) to leave your car unlocked with the keys inside. On the other hand, grand theft auto, being underage with a (probably) stolen gun and manslaughter are.

I’m convinced it was a bait car. They left it open on purpose. The helicopter was doing surveillance on the area for “another car theft” 🙄
Locks only keep honest people honest. If they want the vehicle bad enough they will steal it regardless.
I agree I shouldn't have to lock my doors, I should be able to leave my wallet in my car, my phone in my car without scum breaking into my stuff.

Maserati Lives Matter!!!
But either way the kids were out and up to no good. Even if the owner set it up to be stolen that does not justify the kids stealing it.
@@samuelschick8813 Absolutely agree. Owner of advanced age? I doubt you find many geriatrics trolling the Masarati dealership.
Hopefully they can afford to lose the car because it sure won’t be covered by insurance
It was not the kids’ car. Even if it was running, they shouldn’t have stolen it. They got what they deserved. Losers.
I'm not blaming him...But I am laughing at him.
He simply made a good point. It's the same thing as locking your doors at night. Basic actions to prevent outcomes you don't want. No, leaving your keys in your car does not justify someone stealing it. You just made it easier to get stolen is all.

No matter how good of a parent you may think you are, young people sometimes act without thinking of the consequences. Meh
To see that crash is so sad. I hope the other 2 live and truly learn they lesson.
God bless you Officer

Not Grand Theft Auto. If someone too young to drive is out dressed for crime and stealing autos, they have a destination to which they're talking that auto. These young men were likely part of a auto theft gang.
@JayR, you feel sorry for the car owner? I sincerely hope that's sarcasm on your part! Leaving your vehicle unlocked and keys in it, you deserve what happens to it! Play stupid games, win stupid prizes, applies to the vehicle owner and these teens involved! And as someone else stated in these comments, I hope the insurance company refuses to pay off! Maybe the vehicle owner will learn a lesson.
Wrong answer Edward. Your attitude is what's wrong with this country. There's jealousy in your post.
Condolences to the owner , RIP maserati 😥
I haven't read every comment, but I haven't seen where anyone has questioned who in their right mind leaves there car unlocked with keys in it? Especially a Maserati. Sounds to me like he wanted it to get stolen.
Yep and I hope the insurance company doesn’t give him a dime to replace that car!
My locked Jaguar had a rear window broken out last month. Nothing was stolen. I had my keys.
1 kid dies.
Too bad it wasn't the hat trick.
There's more teens that will make a bad decision like this and EXPIRE DUMMIES
They take a car without permission, demolish it, and it's the car owner's fault? This may be why this whole damned country is upside down.
I don't care if I have the car running it's not urs ....
