Machado is a sinking ship. Dude can’t even keep his OPS above 800 anymore. Paying a crazy amount of money to a guy who would bat 6th on a good team.

1. Merrill - 10yrs 120mil. You have to lock him up early to soften the blow of the Manny, Xander and Cronnenworth deals.
2. King - 5yrs 100mil
2b. Cease - 5yrs 100mil or trade him now for more pitching depth for the 2025 season.
3. Profar- 2yrs 15mil or 3yrs 20mil. You have to show him some love and let him choose if he wants more AAV or that 3rd year.
3b. Higgy- 2 yrs 5mil. Do I think he will replicate the season he had? Probably not, but he is a solid vet to help bring Salas along, and I think he will retain some pop in the bat as he ages.
4. Arraez - Bring him back next year but move Merrill to leadoff and Luis to the 2 hole like Gwynn did most of his career. If they want to take full advantage of his bat to ball skill there needs to be RBI opportunities for him. Jackson gets on he's automatically in scoring position because he can score from first on a ball hit to a gap. If the move pans out you work out an extension with him midseason.
5. HSK - He will probably opt out and I hate to say it but I don't see how they bring him back. Knowing that Xander and Jake were both here long term and the potential of Merrill coming up to man SS for the next decade, and with the hard-on AJ had for Arraez already, I don't know why AJ didn't trade him last offseason.
Ultimately if they are going with Xander at 2b, Jake at 1b and Arraez is the DH/Part time1b you would like to have Kim's glove at SS but there is still the option of moving Merrill back in. They have to do everything they can to try and be true contenders for the next 3 seasons. Thats all the time I'm giving them to rely on Manny and Xander.
Higgy was clutch in the playoffs I love Araez hez a batting matchine but struggles to get on base tbh i dont know if hes worth a massive contrack
What about signing Bauer at league minimum with performance bonuses? Seems like a no brainer with losing musgrove.

I can't agree on anything these guys said excepto extend Now la and Shildt which the Padres did shortly after this video published.
But everything else?
Unlike previous seasons the Padres have options this off season for everything they said was high priority. No rush,and one option is to stand pat. Another is to trade players as long as they're still under contract. Some like Merrill have many years of arbitration before they might leave on their own.
The real problems that are immediate are the backend of their rotation, a hole in LF if Profar isn't signed and a hole at catcher if Campusano isn't the man.
Has Waldron fixed himself over the winter? Can Vazquez step up and become a reliable starter? Even in a best circumstances if both can be reliable starters, that opens up spots in the bullpen that have to be filled.
I'd guess that Profar will be signed but at what price? He's everything from an MVP to a bust within days, weeks or a season. And I'm ignoring the fools who say he didn't hit at the end of last season, he kept getting on base by walks, errors and getting hit by pitches at a high rate. That's performance and valuable.
Catching is a conundrum. Didn't seem like he was calling a worse game than Higgy but hi poor contact and chasing at the plate doesn't make up for average power numbers. There are a lot of worse catchers but I don't know if the Padres can get anyone better

That’s a little ridiculous. This is an undisputed rookie of the year. Not saying he’s the best player in the league but it’s wise to give an extension. It’s not wise to sign Xander Bogaerts to an 11 year , quarter of a billion dollar contract with a no trade clause. For this organization to move forward, they will have to restructure that contract or trade Xander to a team on his list of trade-able destinations .
