    I procrastinate important tasks until they become urgent. I become fascinated, almost intellectually aroused, by anything else. I call the feeling that stops me from cracking on, pernicious fascination.

    this is what I struggled with...I didn't know how to take action without purpose. I found that taking action without purpose is way better then just being idle and not doing anything. Taking action will help you to learn and grow as opposed to not doing anything.

    The purpose is the work ethic doing. Completed tasks are the by-product. Success is the number of completed tasks in the game of try (doing) and error (lesson learned). Then try again…

    Yes! The curse of purpose seeking. Craving for deep meaning, when in reality you’re not at that stage at all.

    Profound insight. I need this reminder when I work on big projects and I start feeling like there's still a mountain before me and doubting whether I can and should keep going. But yeah, just one foot in front of the other. Simple as that.
    Your videos are incredibly valuable, Sam! Thank you!

    There is a saying in Bilgarian: "Better to work in vain than to stay in vain".
    I've never understood it. But now I see.

    sometimes you just need to take action man... "the cycle" is really true. it's crazy though the action eventually just get momentum and what you ended up desiring becomes super clear.

    The idea of “purposeful” work is too romantacized. There are things we do in our day for good better or worse, and the sooner we all wise up to the fact at the most fundemental level work is for survival by partaking in an action which contributes to society something of value, which we exhange/trade on the better!
    Not all exchanges of value are viewed equally or as attractive as one another.
    As a small business owner there are some tasks and work I have to put in which I don’t enjoy, can be seen as demotivating or not serving a greater purpose, but I do them because there is a value exchange worthwhile leveraging.
    E.g I completed the CS50 course at harvard because I am interested in the dsp and software development space, it felt like I was back in highschool, it was a very very difficult course to complete but I knew it would and HAS provided me with a value set and knowledge I can leverage when engaging with developers down the line to help provide better value to the marketplace with any ideas I have.
    That said, I did that work, but I myself will never personally code or develop something on my end.

    You can do mindless work if you want, enjoy the meaninglessness tho hehe

    • @ranyawisher
      @ranyawisher ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It’s not about mindless work, it’s about being able to benefit from work even if there’s no particular goal. Just doing something to learn and grow, or because there’s benefit to it, is more circumstantially meaningful than waiting for an objective meaning that doesn’t exist.
      Doing this doesn’t mean that we stop thinking or being aware (“mindless”). On the contrary, it gives us a great opportunity to think in greater depth and with greater freedom, and to be hyper-aware of life without tripping.
