Kirk, brother; I never shared this with you, but my uncle--whom I am named after--was killed by the Japanese military on Okinawa during World War II. Our friendship has helped heal the deep pain, frustration and anger I felt toward the Japanese for having never met him. A trip to Japan completed that process of forgiveness. As a person of German lineage and American birth, I offer much apology to many. Thank you for jelping me feel that in my heart.

You've done some really powerful work. I'm so sorry for what the Japanese did to your uncle. I really value our relationship and its people like you that will help heal these deep wounds for generations to come.
