I do want to heavily question the trend of, once a victim goes public, immediately scouring their history for every immoral statement or action. it's a perfect replica of how defense attorneys+the justice system drag every skeleton out to discredit a victim. and i doubt anyone's gonna do the hard (required) work of unlearning racism while being re-traumatized so. what is the purpose of us looking this up if not to discredit their stories? and yet i cant deny it changes my view of her and her story. Still obviously a victim, hoepfully once shes recovered more she can more adequately respond and make amends
@@jougjimmadome no i agree, you bring up great points! i think our societal standards are so interesting. the fact that there really isn’t a such a thing as “a perfect victim” really gets you thinking about what is “justified” and “morals” etc. i’m sure we all have done things someone may consider offensive or rooted in prejudice whether we know it or not but one’s fate when it comes to receiving justice tends to rely on public perception which is so obscure and ever changing. overall its definitely something to think about. They can learn and unlearn racism if they want.......its just ridiculous at this point. Its important especially for people who are also victims of said "victim". They have to know where to lay their support. Its a simple concept really.
@@canesugar911exactly, you can be sympathetic to what someone went thru but being sympathetic doesn’t automatically make them less guilty of doing horrible things themselves. It’s like if you’re abused as a child & you then go on to abuse other people, I can be sympathetic to the fact that you were abused but that doesn’t make you abusing someone else any less horrible.
I want to be clear though, her racist actions do NOT take away from the HORRORS she experienced with Sedona. She is also not off the hook for them, I just believe it's important for all victims to separate their flaws from their victimhood. No victim is perfect, and while that doesn't let any of us off the hook for our heinous behaviors, we also deserve to be believed and listened to, alongside of being held accountable (whatever that may look like in the specific situation.) We don't excuse her racism, she should be setting out a plan of action to make amends and reparations in whatever way is appropriate and wanted. And in a separate note, she is very much a victim, I believe her fully, and she didn't deserve what happened to her at all. I hope she is healing and surrounded by love, and people who will be straight up with her who know her well.
I watched Asher talk about this last week and a few others. That woman tried to kill her girl. You cant convince me otherwise. When she assaulted that other chick on the first date, clearly shows Sedona needs help

6:48 you aren’t wrong. alcohol goes hand in hand with domestic violence. It’s simple logic alcohol suppresses inhibitions, leading to violent episode. The victim might emotionally numb themselves with alcohol as well. This makes them internalize guilt and blame themselves for engaging in self-destructive habits. Repeated alcohol abuse causes you to fall in an emotional cycle of repression, boil over, rinse and repeat. So the victim drinks to escape their abusive reality, and the abuser drinks to do the same. All the while the abuser will usually frame the drinking as the victims individual problem. They can claim “you don’t remember” or that you made a total assumption out of yourself therefore the abuse was deserved.

That’s how abuse works tho. You don’t want to think that the person you love hates you so you stay. I had an extremely physically and mentally abusive friendship for years and never left because I thought my friend still cared about me and I stayed for 8 years till she left. You clearly haven’t been in a relationship like that and I’m happy for you but don’t blame her for her actions that psychologically make sense
@Sing_A_Rebel_Song I've been in two relationships like that don't make assumptions about others based on your experience alone. You can still stay with a person without physically being near them or in the same hotel room especially after they put your life in danger and expressed multiple times they wanted to leave you
I hate to sound like a victim blamer but… after she pushed her off the atv the first time she shoulda booked the next flight home. She let a lot of shit slide and I’ve been in an abusive manipulative relationship before it didn’t get this bad but like there were several points where she shoulda left. Period.
Everyone knows that. But you are a victim blamer whether you want to acknowledge it or not. Victims of DV tend to endure a lot of messed up stuff because they have been primed to accept certain behaviors and placate their abuser to avoid worse treatment, especially if the abuser is much stronger than them.
@@madlie2452exactly and this is plausible for her experience due to the history of Sedonas behaviours with prior partners. the text messages blaming her, then threatening to drain the money from her family. Just because you managed to not let it get that bad doesn’t mean the vast majority of DV victims have been able to do so. It’s one of the biggest challenges regarding the stigma. The bad that occurred, happened on the same trip, before there had been minor signs but the honeymoon phase can last a while thus letting red flags slide (which I believe was intentionally watered down ofc). Anecdotal evidence can be ok for context but it’s not reliable hence why it isn’t regarded as a variable that gives you further authority on deciding whether to blame the victim or not
And this is why u shouldn't date bipolar people who aren't working with their therapist and don't take meds. Even the most cared for bipolar people can make a shitshow but unmediated people are on another level.
Ayo my bff and another friend's mom have bipolar disorder, on opposite ends of the spectrum, and I'd never refer to either of them as a "shitshow." My bff is literally a mental health professional, and my friend's mom did her very best raising 4 kids with her husband, while they both held jobs. All of her kids are thriving, despite her struggles. Referring to struggling mentally ill people as "shitshows" is just mad disrespectful. I've been abused by someone with NPD so I understand the impulse to protect yourself, but stigmatizing these disorders is not the move! The vast majority of people with bipolar disorder are not violent. Sedona would be a POS with or without bipolar disorder. Mental illness doesn't transform you into a terrible person or partner, and if your mental illness is causing you symptoms that harm those around you, there are always ways to get help.
Not at all EDIT: By the way, for those who are unaware, borderline personality disorder (BPD) is a personality disorder that is characterised by unstable sense of self, severe fear of abandonment, among other things. It is not an easy disorder to live with, and many people who have developed the disorder have experienced moderate to severe trauma while growing up. And, every individual with BPD will think and behave differently - there will be common behaviours, such as dangerous behaviour towards oneself, or behaviours that manifest as efforts to prevent a loved one from leaving if they perceive abandonment. There are bad and good people in all walks of life - yes, there may be people with BPD who do bad things to people, just like any other group in the population of the earth. There are obviously people without BPD who can do bad things. But, the majority of people with or without BPD do not commit DV to this extent and treat their partner horrifically etc. BPD is already a heavily stigmatised disorder and judgement is rife, making life for those with the disorder harder than it already is - and may prevent them from seeking treatment. It is extremely unhelpful to spread misinformation and stereotypes about this disorder online, when there's already so much hatred already. While the disorder is extremely hard to live with - symptoms can be manageable through therapies and medication etc. If somebody with BPD is reading this, then just know that this disorder doesn't inherently make you a bad person and you are deserving of love and happiness
maybe don't demonize ppl with mental illness by comparing them to an abuser? you can't diagnose someone you only heard about through someone else's experience
