My strategy us start recording everything I can knowing I'm going to delete most of it juts to get more comfortable. Still not there, not to the point where I feel professional enough. • @imhatchmantoo
      @imhatchmantoo ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You don't want low action man. I mean maybe you do but what it does is limit your dynamic range. In other words..if I have low action then when I go to dig in with my pic hand the strings can only vibrate so much before they simply hit the frets and their ability to vibrate is limited. On top of that, I don't ever want to here fret spank noise, its not musical. But I get it, everybody kinda plays different.

    With the Reaper Custom I seriously hope Schecter is stepping into the gloss black and gloss white finish realm once again. Seriously their guitars are amazing for the most part, but I was never into funky figured tops, fancy colors, weird inlays and flashy binding many of their models offer. Imho that's the reason why metal players often prefer ESPs and Jacksons, they just look far more METAL. This looks insane for example

    I've been a Schecter fan since I got my first Solo 6 Standard back in 2011 (singlecut). It was only $400 brand new and came with Grover tuners, GraphTech Tusq nut, TonePros bridge and tailpiece, Duncan Designed JB/59 pickups with coil tap on tone knob, and rubber around the edges of the volume and tone knobs (anti-slip). Guitar was perfectly set up, plays like a dream, and in tune out of the box.
    Most recently I picked up a recent year DJ Ashba signature...alder body with cool matte white with black racing stripes finish, maple neck with ebony board and cool "birds on a wire" inlays, EMG 81 bridge pickup and Sustainiac neck pickup, 3-way selector on lower horn, kill switch, single volume and no tone knob, dive only Floyd 1500 with SS screws, and a unique 2 over 4 headstock that allows straight string pull through the locking nut to the tuners. It's my main player. Really nicely spec'd for the $ and plays amazing. And due to the dive-only Floyd (like EVH guitars) it stays in tune...even if you break a string (which I haven't). This guitar flies under the radar, but is definitely worth checking out. It's like the ultimate super Strat IMO.
    They are both made in S Korea...compared to a Jackson X series Scott Ian King V that I also recently acquired made in Indonesia. It's nice, but the QC is just not on par with Schecter and they go cheap on the parts - plastic nut, cheaper bridge and tailpiece, no locking tuners. Schecter is just a better value for the $ IMO and the factory they use in S Korea does a really good job with QC.

Got my stepson two Schecter A7X(his favorite band)signature models($800 range) for his last 2 birthdays. I was going over them before surprising him with them to see what the fuss was about. They both had decent,very playable setups and were in tune right out of the box. The finishes and fretwork were immaculate and one even had a see thru cherry finish that has to be seen close up to be appreciated. Clean work on the fretmarkers and inlays,sturdy hardware and they felt solid and stable. My next guitar will be the Kenny Hickey(TON/Silvertomb) Signature model based on how well these were made,how fun they were to play and the feeling of quality and care they put into the guitars. I've played brand new guitars in the $2000 price range that had loose hardware,sharp or sloppy fretwork,poor setups and I had to work on them before I could actually even play them! It is so nice to be able to just get an affordable instrument and open the box and play it instead of reaching for sandpaper,fretfiles,screwdriver,allen wrench and soldering iron. Bravo Schecter! Awesome video! And thank you, so much for being honest about your playing. I’ve been playing for years myself and i still feel frustrated and self conscious with my own playing especially after watching numerous other videos of players hitting everything flawlessly all the time and they don’t ever really speak about how long it takes them to get there.

    17:48 just want to clarify for people who may not know, you don’t use the truss rod directly to adjust the action. Adjusting the truss rod can affect the action yes, but what it’s actually for is to adjust the relief of the neck. So, if your action is higher than you want it, first look at the relief of the neck if it’s got too much forward relief b(f then adjust it to take some or all of that out (depending on preference) and recheck the action and it’s probably come down a good amount. If your neck has little to no relief, then you adjust the action at the bridge (and sometimes the nut if it’s not cut properly).
    Not directed at you Glen, I’m sure you’re more than aware and were just short handing what you were saying, but there’s a big problem with people who aren’t as familiar thinking “truss rod = adjusting the action” and cranking the shit out of their truss rods trying to drop their action super low and ending up with more problems.

    The red recording light. Yep, I have it too. I've been recording/sharing a lot more lately, so it's been getting slightly better every time.
    It does suck, but I keep working on it. Good luck with it, Glenn. Your playing has become a LOT better, so you can afford a slight red light syndrome ;)

    Raw wenge necks feel so good. I but a fretless bass with a wenge neck, ebony fingerboard and black korina body. Plan on building a guitar this summer with a wenge neck. Great wood for necks, and really stable too.

    Schecter uses one piece bodies which is great! No glue seams to show in the finish. Quality is more than just fret work. It is the idea of perfection.

    Schecter really has been killing it as of late. Their Schecter USA pickups that they've been putting in guitars really are quality and sound really good. I agree with you that the pickup doesn't exactly matter much as long as the quality is there.

    Hey Glenn. I know it's easy for me to say, but don't sweat the playing. You're better than I am for sure, so it's always great to see you playing bud. As for Schecter, they ROCK! I have an old Hellraiser Special here, and it's definitely my go to. Love the channel, been a sub for a few years now, even though I'm just a basement hack.

    I have several Schecters with different pickup configurations. I love them all for different reasons, but I think they are the best guitars out there for the $. My C1+ is a great all around guitar that I play mostly (after it was setup nicely), and it has the Duncan designed PUs still which I think sound great for hard rock, metal, and punk. Have some EMGs and Seymours in other models, and they are great, of course, also. The playability is great on all of them whether set neck or bolt on. If I bought another, it would be a Tempest Custom. Played one in a store, and they are very cool! Thanks for the review, Glen!

    Love Schecter. Possibly the most underrated for quality and price. I Love my Reaper FR-S. The business end of any guitar is its neck and Schecter rules imho.

    I used to hate on Schecters back when all the young metal kids were playing them, which was foolish, of course, since I never played one myself. I finally gave ‘em a shot one year and got the USA Nick Johnston model. Long story short, it’s a fabulous axe. Schecter sure has come a long way.

  • @absoluteai41
    @absoluteai41 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Sounds really good! For bass at least, the pickup you pluck the string over is what really changes the tone in addition to which pickup is selected. Playing close to bridge is used more for soloing and sounds thinner while playing over the neck pickup gives a fuller sound for each note. Maybe something for a video? Not sure if its as a big a deal with regular guitars as it is with bass.
