China environmental regulations are the reason domestic brands are thriving in their local market. Chinese are championing the New Energy Vehicles therefore 7/10 top global EV battery companies are Chinese with CATL and BYD the largest in the world. Haval cooldog may have potential overseas in Arabia but these petrol based cars are in slow decline in the giant markets of China North America and Europe. You should check mad metal like BYD U8 DFSK Warrior M terrain brands
They're still pumping good power out of these smaller engines.

Haval getting 133kw from a 1.5T isn't bad at all.
Haval is still a young company. Their target market is the budget suv segment. However I have heard the Tank 900 or something has a twin turbo v6.

This car has the potential to be a block buster. The exterior and interior are great and the specs seems to be superb. What I am missing in the whole HAVAL range are
- Diesel plug-in hybrids. Diesel engines are best suitable for (city) off-roaders
- Why not to have for the smaller models (like this one reviewed or the Jolion) an LPG and/ or methane plug-in version?
- Think on the future and hydrogen
But to come back on this car. Good car for a good price! I was thinking on buying a WEY Coffee 02 but this may be a suitable alternative as soon as it becomes available in Europe.

Depends on the price if it is cool or not
I mean 20k USD for the top trim with the higher output engine, AWD, and all the features is not bad at all. I know it can't match the CR-V's driving dynamics, but I'm guessing it is also significantly cheaper than the CR-V.

I mean if you think about it, VW or Volkswagen in German literarily stands for "People's car", and they got away with it. I do agree that some of the names do take away from the vehicles, kinda hard to tell someone you get to work on a big dog. But in an era where most car names are being reduced to code like numbers and letters, there's some charm with having names.

I've always thought it was funny that they give their cars names that they BELIEVE may appeal to western buyers, when their cars aren't even really sold in the west. 😅
Pretty certain their names are designed to appeal to the Chinese, the Chinese recently have loved cars named after animals, or short simple phrases that sound foreign
Not sure those models were meant to be sold to western customers in the first place. Still, the rise of Chinese car exports has been rapid. Even as recently as 2020, less than 1 milk cars were exported out of China. This rise to 1.6 million in 2021, and just over 3 million in 2022. Presumably by the end of 2023, China will have displaced Japan as the number 1 car exporting nation by number of vehicles sold.

China needs to realise these kinds of crappy names will not help sales in the West. We have the Ora Funky Cat in the UK and ALL car magazines complain of the stupid name. Also the Atto 3 having "Build Your Dreams" written in huge chrome letters across the back. Also derided for the stupid name.
Actually those name are crappy in Chinese too. Haval not got expected market performance recently that partially because of those terrible names and marketing.

This is old-school Chinese design - imitative, uninspired, unfocused, and poorly aimed. It stands in contrast to Ora designs, which is strange because GWM owns both Haval and Ora. GWM has been in business for 39 years. Its designers should know better than to design a vehicle as a pile of mistakes.
As opposed to the original, inspired, focused, and perfectly aimed styling of all the non Chinese compact crossovers that cover the entire world's roads like a plague?
