My wife was a dietary manager in a nursing home. She ordered a bunch if those plastic baskets and checkered wax paper, like dairy bars used to use, for certain meals ( fish, burgers, hot dogs) . The residents were thrilled and you could see them remembering how it was when they were young. Something that simple made a big impact on them
Sonia is my mom, and Eva Casillas is my grandma. This video made me teary eyed💜so appreciative for this program and the joy it’s brought to my grandma’s life.
God bless the folks who made this place happen. I wish we could’ve done something like this for my grandma. She would’ve adored the painting and crafts, as well as the pet shop.
I used to work with Alzheimers patients and I really tried to make any moment nice for them. Like going for walks and listening to the same story over and over and acting like I never heard it before. Or this one guy loved getting shaved so I done that every time I was there. But although it was a bad experience and very sad. I truly can appreciate life more after it.
Literally nothing, these people have no idea what the 1950's was like...dare I say, without the non cliche's such as the 1959 Mercury, and something else, everything in this is almost the opposite of the 1950's.
Tetroy 64 there are at least 50 studies on alzheimer’s at any given time, the media doesn’t like to report on the little medical breakthroughs happening every day
This feels really nice. The center looks like a colorful, friendly (and safe) place for someone with alzheimers/dementia. Most places look way too bland, hospitaly, and cold imo. I wish the town concept was more common
I was born in 67 and would love to visit this place even though I don't have alzheimer. I really envy my parents for being in their prime in the 1950s.
I wonder if they will update the facility as this generation passes away and the younger generations get older. Will we see a 70’s, 80’s and 90’s theme town soon?
This is wonderful. I work with people with alzheimers & dementia in Australia & although the idea of therapy is great & works, it's bland in residential care settings like this. Having a place like this would enhance quality of life & therapy so much!
My home is decorated in late 70s/early 80s (shag carpet, wood paneling) as my husband and I are Gen X. I wanna have my nostalgia while I'm still "with it".
Seeing this compared to the ones in Europe just, idk it makes me sad. It's so stifling being in a big warehouse, vs outside and a natural setting with sunlight and weather etc. The black roof looks like it would be so oppressive. LIke they'd feel back in the 50s, but somehow darkened and brooding.
What's sad is in the future the elderly people are going to be all tattooed up from their faces down to their ankles and when it's reminiscing time they'll be talking about mosh pits gaming wars loud rap music nothing as beautiful as we have now with the elderly people. It's sad to see how everything has changed some for the good and a lot for the bad.
unknownprofiler I hope so, Jim Crow law supporters are true progressives unlike the liberals who love 3rd world undeveloped black culture those anti progressive primitives
I think it should be outside, it looks kinda depressing to me. Maybe it should have a whole town. With employees dressed in 50’s attire, and classic cars cruising around. Maybe they should just have them walk around. Have lunch, talk about stories, etc. I don’t like the way of them rotating around. But I’m not an expert, so I don’t really know anything. This is just an idea.
@@Carburator_Ranger Considering that it's primary purpose would be to help mentally and physically fragile people, a large amount of tourists making alot of noise and littering the place wouldn't be an ideal setting for alzheimers patients

If I grow old, my ideal treatment center will be a replica of a 2000s era town complete with replicas of Starbucks and GameStop.
Haha... awesome! Mine would be an 80s arcade
if you grow old? the begging of the 2000s was almost 20 years ago, you already are old and me too I'm 18

they should have some nice young 1950s people in costume acting out daily life as well
I see your point.
that would be nice

Imagine if someone built a 80's themed town with old arcade games like pac man, space invaders, and VHS tapes plus Sony walkmans as decor.
B&O5300 sounds lame
@@ryanelgar2299 Maybe a 90s theme can work too
That would be dope asf
I was there, what do you want to know?
VHS tapes suck. Betamax was a million times better, and Laser Disc was even better than that. Lol
It's incredible that something that seems so simple is able to help people so much.
this update for nuketown looks cool
exactly what came to my mind! lmao, glad im not the only one.
The old people turn into zombies
I'll be ready for the 80"s theme senior home when my time comes.

Thank you for doing that. Not everyone could.
1953-1961 lol I love how accurate they have it. I wonder what minor detail makes it 1953 and not 1952.
Yeah lol

Sad in 20years this 50’s town will be obsolete. They’ll have to update it to the 60’s 70’s 80’s as time goes on
This is basically San Junipero in real life
Jonaid Ahmad heaven is a place on earth!
Black mirror!
I loved that episode
You know you’re old when they build replicas of your childhood for the aid of Alzheimer’s patients.

The 1950s was such a good time for America. There will never be another decade like it again!
If you were male, upper class and white , of course.

I’d love to live here, this is a time. I’m so happy people did this for the elderly

The Thunderbird is a beauty, you don't see cars like that often,

What do they do when all the people from that era die out? Update and rebuild?

Probably. They will update it to the 60s and then 70s and so on to accommodate for the age of the elderly.
OmegaMan how would yours look? Ages 10-30 era
I thought this too
Great idea.
Forget Alzheimer’s (no pun intended) we should do a mass reversion to these better times
Step 1- Give up the internet and cable TV.
The bald dude looks like the bad guy from punisher season 1, good work though; elderly people shouldn't be treated like second class citizens

So health care is only for the rich? How about free birth control and access to abortion to address the overpopulation problem?
