Moral of the story is when fighting Dedede on FD, prioritize up air juggling instead of back air and you'll do way better than I did here haha. Otherwise go for pDKOs on platform stages and push your advantage state as hard as you can because Dedede is a big dude. Hope y'all enjoy the video!
I like to prioritize down tilt into ground pound in this matchup because you can bait Dedede into a tech situation since most Dedede’s roll out of hit stun towards the edge of the stage because they want to jump off and reset!
I honestly think this new style of video is amazing, adding notes to help people with MUs is insanely helpful. PLEASE continue its amazing for the community
You got it! Dedede feels like one of those characters who requires a deep dive matchup grind to figure out the best way to interact with both him and the gordos.
Love all the small notes you add to the video. I try to do the same as I play, to see what works against the opponent instead of throwing out random moves, or repeating the same mistakes.
I find this key when going over losses or unfavorable interactions. It also helps that Dedede forces so many unique interactions thanks to gordo that it causes a need to delve a bit deeper to find solutions.
This is crazy I was looking to see if you had any ddd shorts and I couldn't find any, now you post a whole video of you playing the same ddd that beat me on ladder ! Now I just won a set vs him while listening to this video
Grounded up b beats inhale but the timing has to be right. Also f smash does work but the timing is super tight!! I’ve noticed both are finicky but can be done consistently. Also if ddd is holding inhale you can get forward air from the ground as inhale will pull you in and be met with your fair
@@DKwill yeah! I don’t get it every time but enough to know it works at certain angles. Also one of my favorite things to do with DK is aerial down b into dair offstage. I think it might actually be true from 10-20 on most of the cast, but I don’t really have a way to test stuff on my own. It definitely works well on heavies and is one of the things I actively look for against DDD because they like to hang on or around the ledge too often, letting themselves get caught by the tip of down b
@@PapiRigatoni I've hit this recently on quite a few D3 players. They tend to like to use their double jumps a lot when they're low off stage so it catches them nicely!
@@DKwill nice, and exactly! This works especially well if you can negate Gordo as a threat and have easy access to D3. I’ve found reverse u tilt is great for getting rid of Gordo spam, but outside of reflecting it back there’s not much counter play I’ve found
@@PapiRigatoni I recently learned that spaced second hit aerial hand slap works well against the gordos from a distance as well! Using DK's fingertips.
Hey will! I used to follow your smash 4 videos a lot but I haven't since I dropped off from comp smash. I wanted ro close up a few misconceptions that you may have already figured out on your own. You can ledge trap ddd. And you can contest the Gordo at ledge. The risk/reward may not be worth it all the time but if you're up I would say to put as much pressure as possible. As a ddd main I struggle with pressure because ddd is so slow and hit/hurt boxes are horrid in conjuction. Regardless,at ledge. There is an odd interaction that dk can down tilt the Gordo and ddd will get hit. Depending on % it can pop him up to a vulnerable state where you can Arial down b into dair (I believe it's sub 50%). One other, this ddd that you played (I would say is far better than me - im not trying to throw shade by saying this) doesn't seem to know how to advantageously use the platforms. In this match-up, I think ddd benefits SO much from the platforms. And he seemed to rely on inhale a little too much which I saw that you started abusing! One last thing. Using the small battlefield as reference, you could stand under the closer platform (with ddd on the ledge) and facing away up tilt the gordos. This puts you in a safe spot ro deflect gordo and be in position for a Bair or uair to catch his jump, roll, or get up. And if you condition, you can force the getup and dash grab to start your ding dong since your under the platform already. Regardless, if youre comfortable in the matchup, ignore me. I just wanted ro share some flaws I know since every ddd is different and I know some flaws the character has since I do main. I'm trying to go to smachcon this year (first tournament since ceo 2019) so maybe we can money match or just play! Anyways, big fan! Best of luck, man!
As a Dedede main, this matchup is in favor of DK due to the legal competitive stages (which most of them are platform stages.). But Omega stages, Dedede definitely shines because although Gordo is the worst projectile in the game, it can be used more freely against very hard matchups.
I wanted to show that even though grounded up-b works very well against Dedede in the corner-- it's only when he's committed to something. He has too many jumps so if you try to read a landing, he can just jump away on reaction and punish hard.
I’m sorry I know this video old but I had to point this out because it seems like it really affected you. Let me address the stage situation. He has his preferred stage settings to FD only and you have ur preferred set stage with your preferences with the platforms. When he wins the system uses his preferences. So if he keeps winning it will just keep using his FD preference. That’s why when u win it switches to ur stages with the platforms . and ur like “ nice logic” etc etc but it’s just the winners preferred stage settings. just so ya know . U look like an experienced player , suprised u didn’t notice that lol

my friend has been maining Dedede recently, and this really helps me understand the Dk Dedede Match up, so thank you.

Let’s goo he’s back AND with long form content?? Good stuff
As a Dedede main, I love this video. He shines on FD. The platforms make his moves a lot less effective.
I was unfortunately becoming more and more aware of this as our games went on lol. Just wish I would have adapted and up air juggled more on FD.

You can use back aire against gordo . It is so efective to return that thing to It.
Finna eat the returning Gordo while you trying to land
It's funny how u said he farming but then u downloaded him great adaptation
Will you post and show your stats with DK what your KD is online and stuff . That would be cool.

Is smashcon open invitation ?? If not I can’t find any local tournaments I am trying to play !!
Yep! Anyone can enter Smash Con. I believe registration opens on May 17!
@@DKwill Thank you bro 🙏 hopefully I see you there !
can you ledge trap d3 if you throw a giant punch out knowing he's gonna throw a gordo out?
Good point! I didn't think to try that. That might be the single best way if dealing with it actually haha.

That's not how it works. It's a 50% chance to pick your stage preference or your opponent's. Doesn't matter if you win or lose.
YO I JUST LOST TO THIS DUDE 1-2 Wit dk
Bro how are you gonna complain about "boring" when grap, jump to platform, jump throw and up air is not exciting game play 😂
How are ppl still playing this game and why is your stream sub only mode …
