its really encouraging to see good genes in a small lake. There has to be more of them somewhere, bedding right now! I'm recovering from back injury now, if its not one thing its something else, but i really want to come up there at least once during the spawn..

I had fun fishing for bluegills this morning. The first place I tried was still flooded, so I did not catch anything there. I moved on to a second place and was able to get three beefy seven inch fish. Unfortunately the kayaks came through after that and killed the bite.
Big gills are hard to find, and my days fishing for them resemble this video - I catch a single monster now and then. They are bedding in the ponds near me, so it pays to cast a gill imitation around them because of the bass cruising around looking for an easy score.
I am definetely getting into panfishing this season... fishing for smaller (but not always) sized fish can just as rewarding if not more so than the larger ones... what can I say, I'm a numbers guy... much prefer catching 10 x 1pounders than 1x 10 pounds. Keep it Realistic !!!

In the Fall I do it again as they return closer to the bank. In Summer the big ones go deep and are difficult to locate. They don't like the hot Sun any better then we do. I catch my share of Bull Bluegills on a 5 weight rod. Very fun. Also my share 4 inch ones. Let's keep it Realistic!
Sup Alex, two words, "gulp minnows", when suns up now I switch for crappie, but any panfish, you got some huge bluegill, I have portable grill, bring sandwich and condiments, seasoning, and grill sandwich, if catch, anything keepable grill and even share,cought a trout Sunday was a bloody mess, I don't love eating trout but had to grill it, I shared, being realistic. Now when fish there same people follow me 🤷, that's what get for being nice I guess. Tyvm tc 🎣
Great day on the water. I love catching bluegill! Are they any good to eat?? I love eating crappie, but haven't tried bluegill yet. Can't get past their outer color..😂😂 makes me think the meat is greenish.
Have you tried the yum grub (Christmas tree)? I use them on a 1/32 jig head both at Walmart for under 5$ when fishing is bad for me I whip that ultralight and that setup and never fails and my local lake to get me bluegills and 10inch bass. Ppl always say they don't bother with them. There loss haha
Fish are confused here in NW Ohio. 90s in May is August weather. Gills are at 6-7 feet and I think our black crappie headed for Canada. 😂. I float fished Crappie from 2-14 feet not one bite.
Those two big bluegill would've been some mighty good eating, but I'm glad you released them.

I use to use the 1 inch gulp then i switched to a bigger jig head and a 2.5 inch gulp was catching everything with it Might give that a shot.
