  • USPSA: 5/13/18 Harvard Sportsmans Club. 3rd Match, first of the Season. Shot in the Production division, originally anticipated on shooting my H&K VP9 and loaded up ammo earlier in the week for that gun in mind. The day before the match I had obtained a new to me Canik TP9SFL and had the not so bright idea to use it for this match without confirming function with my match ammo... lesson learned, always properly vet new equipment. Match time is not experiment time.
Stage 2 was an utter embarassment because of my "bright" idea. Always bring back-up equipment! It was a VERY frustrating start to my Match, and you can see it as the stage went on. What took most individuals approximately 20ish seconds, took me 69 seconds with my "bolt action" pistol. Eh, good malfunction practice. I was in a rush to complete the stage, my hit factor took a severe plummet.
After stage 2, I returned with my H&K VP9 as originally intended, and the match carried on much more smoothly. I had a lot of fun shooting this match outside of my first stage and stage 6 where I was rushing past my avenues of fire. My other major take aways from this match going forward are to have better focus when running through a stage (slow it down a little more), make better target transitions, and to make better shots. I had a few misses during this match, which I attribute to losing focus and the lack of practice off a traditional square range.
Stages 1 and 6 would have been MUCH more smoother if I had not missed shots on those steel poppers, "aim small, miss small". Stage 5, Payne's Pain classifier, felt incredibly smooth while shooting it, but upon review of the match results, I had way too many C's, and a D than I prefer, never mind the Mike, another instance that tells me I need to slow it down.
Overall, I had a lot of fun this first match of the season. I placed 14 out of 19 overall Production shooters, with 92 Alpha, 2 Bravo, 26 Charlie, 3 Deltas, and 4 Mikes, my shot placement I was not totally pleased with this match looking back, but it's something that is easily remedied with proper practice. This was a good match to work some bugs out and have as a baseline going forward this season.
I plan on attending many more matches in 2018 and practicing much more. Please feel free to leave comments, suggestions, constructive criticism below, thanks for watching!

Nice shooting, double thumbs up for working through that 1st stage instead of giving up!

Thanks a bunch! I'm not one to give up, however my buddy running the camera did, haha!
