We didn’t have a lot of $ growing up, so Daddy would go to the military thrift store (can’t remember name) & buy pea coats & we would grow out of/into the various sizes... but what I remember the most, were the original Naval buttons... so beautiful! Please continue these videos- I know it’s making a big difference in clearing out a lot of unnecessary items. Just the simplicity is so nice at my age of 57. I don’t want to go in my closet and say I don’t have a thing to wear which it seemed like I did when I was much younger. I love the idea of timeless pieces.

Your confidence shows and I really appreciate watching someone who is fashionable but not trying to mimic others who are skinny and straight. I try to remember I did not look like a fashion model when I was their age so why would I now in their clothes 😊

I found a beautiful classic pea coat, but I could not decide if I preferred it in navy or red. I bought the navy thinking it was more classic. I went back the next day to buy the red one, too! They were on sale and so timeless that I couldn’t resist.

Love this video! As always, it is loaded with useful tips and beautiful examples. I love black like you do, but have found that Soft Summers like me don’t really look their best in it (picture Jennifer Aniston in a black dress...maybe with a bold red lip). So, I just use the darkest shades of my fave colors instead: deepest charcoal, midnight blue, dark loden or forest, deep burgundy, deepest taupe. They work so well, and really are almost as neutral as black. I treat them as black, and they treat me well. Of course, black accessories are a true necessity. Thanks so much for your channel! ❤
Good idea, Melissa. The very dark shades of colors function very well as a substitute. Btw, Beth's tip in another video was... Soften the effect of the "harsh" colour by putting some flattering scarf between the garment and your face. Kind regards
BETH! You literally have my shirt and jacket on! I don't think this is the first time this happened. I love all of the zippers on the jacket but sometimes when I drive they clink around on the steering wheel! It's the perfect combo though; the zebra top and the zippered jacket. I also have a zebra jean jacket. Don't tell me you have one of those too??? I would not be surprised, lol . Hey, we share good taste!
I don't wear the zebra jacket with the top though, lol. Not good. It goes great with black or white jeans though ;-) Not so conservative but it is subtle in the print so its a great new piece I have been trying out.
My favourite "pea coat" is the French caban (worn by sailors in Bretagne for decades and decades). I've always loved navy blue cabans, especially the ones made by Armor Lux. Timeless, always stylish, make me think of my beloved Bretagne and they can last a lifetime!
I live in Le Pouliguen and sometimes I visit friends in Quimper and shop at the Armor Lux outlet store there. I too love the French "caban". Mine is about 20 years old and going strong!

What about a Chanel-type jacket - dress it up or looks really good with jeans. We have a company in the U.K. - Marks and Spencer’s, who make good quality classic clothes ......
I have 40 blazers and jackets. Most are year round or Fall we dont have winter here in the tropics but I am in the mountains so it gets cool several mos and chilly Dec and Jan. USually it is cool then heats up to 78 so if I get too warm, I take my blazer or jacket off and toss over my shoulders ala Melania Trump.
Great video. Thankfully I have these 5 styles. My concern is how many winter coats I have. I need to minimize. There are the camel, ski, puffer, toggle coats. Also, a few others of different lengths. I’ve accumulated these many coats over many years. I am not a shopaholic 🤑. But, am ready to downsize and donate.
Recently I saw Liz Taylor in an old talk show. She was 60 at that time. Slim, a beautiful face. Her get up however was a nightmare. Moto- jacket embellished with tons of rhinestones, her hairstyle big and dyed far too black. Would have Ali McGraw, Jackie Kennedy, Candice Bergen popped up like that? Not likely. Beth, if You had garbed her, Liz could have been breath taking. Compliments for your classy tasteful tips.
