Went to Norcross high school with Lajon way before Sevendust of course around '87/'89. He was always writing lyrics and singing in the hallways trying to find his own style. We worked out together in weight training class back then and he was a trip. The growling strong voice we hear today was a style only he could produce back then. He was hilarious in school and a lot of people didn't take him seriously but I always did because he was passionate about music and loved metal. Well done Lajon. Well done.
Thats pretty darn cool! My parents used to live near one of Creed's band members, the would hear their jam sessions all the time. They never really got to know them, but they did get their album "My Own Prison" from them.
Hell yeah me too brother! 40 years old and going to be 41 in December 2021. I remember even buying the VHS 📼 to this album and it flipped up like a cigarette box it was so Kewl. Blessings My friend! Sincerely Jonesy of Ruidoso NM and Tulsa Oklahoma 🌞
Not only is Lajon incredibly talented he's also one of the most kindhearted and legit good dudes ever. Met him once in KC where he lives now could not have been cooler.
Damn Lajon Witherspoon has got a VOICE...I love the way he sings this track...very powerful lyrics too this song really displays some raw heartfelt emotion...respect for sevendust all the way
I met these guys in Columbia South Carolina in a bar in 2004 or 2005 never heard of them. Great guys... they were playing pool, and I had the privilege of shaking Lajohns hand as he sat at the bar and enjoyed his drink. First heard this song in 2011 @nd I was fl00red...been listening every since!!
Now this is the good stuff from SEVENDUST....the first 2 or 3 records. This shit blew me away back in the day, when I heard it....VINTAGE HARD ROCK...sj~13 #BLACK 97'
sparky062002, dont be such a know it all. Its unattractive. Im sure he was just referring to the timing and placement of that breakdown and how smoothly it transitioned into the outro.....and overall how badass it sounded in general..... and i tend to agree :)
I know what you mean, even death metal rarely gets this heavy even though it's more technical and faster than heavy metal. Awake by Godsmack especially the bridge section and Dig by Mudvayne come close, but this song is the heaviest thing i've ever heard as well that doesn't sound like garbage. I'd call this pure Heavy Metal.
@@shadowpersonoftheunknown6245 oh just get out here with that nonsense! Heaviest thing you've ever hear. Maybe try turning off sesame street for a moment and lookup Behemoth Demigod and you'll be enlightened
Saw sevendust at royal oak music theatre in michigan may 11th of this year. The venue holds 1700 people max. What a great live band. They sound better than the studio albums. They played a few songs off of all i see is war. Then they played enemy, that place lit up!!!. They played about an hour after all that. They left stage, came back and played this song, place got live as fuck!!! Then they played face to face and shit was off the hook. I have been a sevendust fan for 22 years. 1st time seeing them live. I am addicted to sevendust more than ever. Black had me hooked since the first time i hears it, and all this time later, just like the first time i heard it. Awesome.
I heard this song on the radio 11 years ago, managed to find this video. Forgot the song. Rediscovered this song elsewhere years ago, and only now just revisiting this video, suspecting it may actually be the song I heard that day. As soon as the blue flames and writing appeared it was like a rubber band finally releasing, it all snapped together.
I listened to seven dust in my child hood and iam now 28 years old lol. These guys are probably gettin Grey's now. This band never caught on sadly it seems but I always thought they were awesome
Greatness, HELL YEAH!! SEVENDUST!!!!!! GREAT BAND!! Dude these guys have a shit load of awesome songs! Catch them everytime they make their way to Dallas Texas.. Hell Yeah!!!
3am getting off work from midnight shift ups Phx,Az driving home hearing this on the radio. Damn been so long ago, seems like yesterday. Memories linger on. Hell yeah.
I first heard this song way back in my childhood in 1998, and it’s stuck with me ever since. My dad would always crank up the volume, I do too. Roll the windows down, crank up this song to the max, remind kids these days what real music is 😎
Seriously, Who the F*** made this video, Pleeease tell me, cause like 1000 of these views are mine. One of the best songs ever. Whoever made this, you are HIRED! Best fan Video EVER!!!!
I love how over the years industry standard of sonic quality has varied. this record us massive and at the same time very raw. LJ voice is almost buried in the mix but what a hell of a track. pumps me up and his me right in the God'amer.
the first show I went to was sevendust and coal chamber (sometime in the 90's at a bar outside of Chicago) this was the first song they played and is still epic!!!!!!!!!!
Going to see them tomorrow at Come And Take it Live, Austin, TX. Last tome I saw them was years ago at The Boat House in Norfolk,VA. Tripping on acid. Looking forward to this!
Oh my God!!! I bought this album when it was brand new, this being the first single off of it and what sold me on it. But until today I didn't realize that he was talking about literally being a black guy. Duh!

This has got to be the best song ever!
Too bad nobody was saying that 8 or 10 years ago you know what I'm saying
This song is just impossibly heavy. Is there a heavier guitar/bass track out there?
Insane, even 15+ years after I first heard it.
I know what you mean, even death metal rarely gets this heavy even though it's more technical and faster than heavy metal.
