When Sal directed her head sideways on the white wall I immediately said "YEAH!" I totally dig both shots. I love B&W so much. But those bright red pants and that top just popped off everything and I miss not seeing that 4 quadrant one in there. I'd love to see that one and Sal's negative space one printed too. Great set!!

I really love both , that black and white it’s a killer; however in disagreement with some of you I love the fact that Sam’s picture still show the metal piece in the ground. That metal gave the piece a different balance and it is not a negative space any more. Love it.

Sal’s got your number on this one, Vanessa-even though he self-sabotaged by not listening to you about the unreliability of all but the center AF point on that 10D.
I think you won, Vanessa. In this case I would say up close and personal is better than full lengt, strong standing pose against the wall. But for a double spread in a magazine, with text, I would go for his picture.
I liked Sal's for the non-standard open space (or logo space for a big customer) but then you took it to b&w for the subtle tonality and on matte paper. Super! you win!
Closest contest yet! 2 different styles hmmm? I like the B&W... everything was right on the image. Sals is good also. It really comes down to personal preference. Not bad work on an old clunker camera.. Great job guys..... I love it!
I pick the B&W shot by a hair. I just love the shot being up & close to the model. I do like Sals shot in that it is different. It would make a great horizontal book jacket cover.

Now this one was fun great model and collaboration. So cool to see the old gear and seeing how far technology has come in cameras. And she reminds me of me she said keep that focus point in the middle lol it’s a add thing I do the same thing loved the final shot I really want that printer.

I’m going with you Vanessa. I like the black & white, but would also like to see it edited and printed in colour. There were some close ups of Sal that I preferred to the one he chose and also the one where he talked about negative space. I really liked the one of his where he was using some of the harder sunlight with the model looking up into it.
As always it’s never easy. I love the black and white, but for some odd reason I see the color version in my mind. While the pipes may be a distraction on Sal’s, the rest is a very strong image. I’m giving a soft edge to Vanessa’s.
Very inspiring video and this proves that any DSLR with a cheap 50 mm can do the job perfectly Well I do have a Canon 30D and I still use it for my Street Photography….
I thought yours Vanessa for this one. I love black and white and I like the up close pose. I did like Sal's but the only thing I didn't like was I thought the red could have popped more it just seemed a bit dull on the print. Just my thoughts. I do love the composition on Sal's a lot though.

Yours (based on the final prints)! I do wish you had access to an 85mm 1.8 with the same composition and keeping the color. Sal could have won but the exposure, color and focus were off. I enjoyed this showdown, especially the light trash talk.
I used to photograph with such black and white films Kodak Pan-X (32 ASA), Plus-X (125 ASA) and Tri-X (400 ASA). That's why I going with the one on your right and my left. Just because I gave up on photography, does not mean I can't appreciate good photography. To bad I didn't buy a used Canon 50D or 60D. Perhaps a Nikon D700 or D800.
The 10D was my first DSLR. I still have it, but haven't used it for quite some time. My daughter was using for a while. Even though it's old and slow now, I have a lot of photos from it that I really like. Image quality really isn't that awful until you start comparing it to today's cameras.
Great show once again thanks, both images were great perhaps Sal shaded it. I had one of the cameras with a 3.5" disk it was a Sony Mavica it was 2mp!!
I think this is the first time I didn't think it was close. Vanessas shot I think was so much better, B&W was definitely the way to go with that image.
I still use my Pentax *istDL that I bought in 2005 it is a 6 megapixel camera that now sells on the used market for $ 20.00 .I leave it in my car and use it if I see something worth photographing. I have it on spot focus for quicker autofocus . what makes the camera viable is photo editing software without editing software the camera would no longer be viable today.
It's so funny how the 10D is a lot of people's first camera. I got lucky that my dad won it in a poker game in 05 and gave it to me when I was a kid because it was "too complicated" 😅❤
@@kevcleaver Mine too. I think a floppy disk held about 15 or 16 photos. I bought mine in Singapore, on the way to Australia...that's a lot of floppy disks for a 2 weeks holiday!
it depends on the situation. sometimes the model dont know exactly what your vision is and sometimes get confused on the direction. you should always ask at the very least but sometimes you get caught up in the moment and just do what needs to be done.he was just guiding her knee, nothing funny.
Sal gets my vote Vanessa, i felt that the pictures you chose for your self would have looked better with a tighter crop if you want to maol it to me i can show you what i mean . that said there is room for improvement with Sals selection
I love B/W. That being said, did Sal edit his photo or did you? I would like to have seen Sal’s photo printed the way he talked about editing it. Either way I still like Sal’s as the winner.
I liked both your photos.. Two different angles. I think I like both equally.. The one thing that sways me more towards, Vanessa's is the fact that it looks more classic at the same time modern & sultry.. I also like Sal's but I feel that the stainless steel on the floor took away from the photo.. I would have edited that out.. it's one thing to mix the models slick look with the sidewalk but another to see construction materials on the floor.. Just took too much away from the photo in my humble opinion..

Until recently I was shooting with a 9 year old D3100 so Old Gear was me. Now shoot with Z6. Loved the shots but the B&W was killer! Sorry Sal.
I think Sal violated one of the rules of shooting a model; never touch the model.
