Wide-angle LEICA STREET PHOTOGRAPHY in Manchester | POV

  • I love Manchester. We moved to the North West in 2008 to be closer to Manchester. I've supported Manchester United since I was a small boy growing up in Northwich in the 70s, and the soundtrack to my teenage years was born in Manchester, from Joy Division to The Fall. It's a friendly, cosmopolitan city which combines the old with the new. It's perfect for street photography.
    In this POV video, I take my trusty Leica M9-P and 21mm lens to shoot street photography in Manchester on a cold winter afternoon in the run-up to Christmas. I started off with overcast skies and finished at night with the rain falling (it is Manchester, after all!!)
    Thanks for watching!!

    Jeff, 'Walk Like Alice' is absolutely the best channel for street photography. The photos are superb; the video production is superb as well. I'm constantly scanning TH-cam for good photography shows, and yours is the standard by which all others should use as a benchmark. To you and yours, happy holidays.

    Brings back memories of when my then girlfriend (now wife) worked in Manchester. I was in Cornwall working at the time, so I used to travel up there each weekend. I used to love the contrast between the city at the weekend, and the coast in the week. That journey though… Night street photography and night photography in general is probably my favourite time to shoot.

    • @WalkLikeAlice
      @WalkLikeAlice  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We live right on the coast and I agree with you, the contrast is fantastic. I could happily shoot in the city every day but I couldn't live there now. We left a city to live here and couldn't go back.

      @@WalkLikeAlice I’m about 40 minutes from Bournemouth and usually get there a few times a week as I am shooting a winter project there. I’d love to right back on the coast though, I do miss that sound of the sea at night. Lucky you and I’m with you on moving to the coast!

    Stumbled through the TH-cam street photography algorithm before learning of Walk Like Alice. I am currently awaiting delivery of the Voigtlander NOKTON 21 1.4 ASPH as a new addition to my street kit and landed here after the thread for reviews was barren, less a landscape was in your frame. Instead of another spec sheet laden review- I got a less search specific, more eye opening viewpoint of what the 21mm focal length can do in the streets. Thanks for the fix. - 👍and 🔔

    Thanks for the most useful tips, wide angle and waist level photography. I have been practising your method in the past week, found a new joy, making useful of my vintage manual 24mm lens with lousy sharpness, but i think it is enjoyable with f11, eveything becomes sharp. Initially thought about selling it, but I changed my mind. Used BW setting on my Sony with +1 contrast, any further tips to give it result like your M Monochrome ? lol.. Btw, you shot pretty low (as the photo of 2 girls with jacket), did you pressed the button with your thumb ?

      @@WalkLikeAlice Good to know, I'm looking to add a 21mm to go with my M7, debating on either going with an Elmarit or the Super Elmar. Do you find yourself using the extra stop of the Elmarit frequently? Thanks for the reply.

    • @WalkLikeAlice
      @WalkLikeAlice  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@VentureOutside TBH, if I was purchasing another 21mm, I would go with the Super-Elmar. The difference in f-stop is irrelevant in the real world, and it's smaller and lighter. The Elmarit is quite a heavy lens. I use a handgrip on the camera because of the weight which isn't an advantage.
