How Slow Can You Go?

- Anybody can run their trains fast, but can you make them crawl? I heard of this challenge on DAGRYFFYN HOBBY, so thought I’d give it a shot. Rather than taking the easy route and running some modern, electronic filled model, I grabbed a couple of older Marx locomotives. Enjoy the experience. #marx #ogaugetrains #toytrain

Pretty good for old hardware. Slow running was my holy grail when I used to model in 'OO'. Live frogs and multiple pickups (sometimes including coaches or wagons) achieved a moderately successful effect. I never built it, but I sketched out a plan for a loco with a really heavy belt-driven geared flywheel but in 'OO' there's precious little room! 'O' Gauge it probably would have worked. I always liked those Marx Lithograph 4 wheel cattle cars. I had one when I was a little kid along with a wind up Commodore Vanderbilt my dad painted red for me. I still have this somewhere, but it needs repairs.
I like the cattle cars with the open slats, though they are a little pricey.
Dave, I agree that I can operate my Marx trains slower with my Lionel ZW. They do better after they warm up. Nice video.

something to try just for fun is find a old 70s model ho transformer and use that to run old marx slow i have lots of old marx and that is all i run mine on they will just crawl around my layout some older transformers have 4 and 5 amps more than enough to run a marx engine just try it you will be suprized thank you forever a subscriber
Have you tried more rail cars to increase load on engine?
There’s a fine line between what these will pull and what they can’t even budge. That Marx plastic locomotive might pull three or four 6” cars, but it is too light for much more.

As a juvenile you want to go as fast as possible. As an adult the opposite.. imho

So funny thing I’m stuck using a Marx controller for my Marx stuff thanks to my younger self not accounting for the Marx’s 999 fat wheel and I do have a starter set transformer but that’s reserved for the big layout But anyways nice video
