    You are said that "no rules how to route PCB". Good joke !! Take a look at the "Robert Feranec" youtube channel, I believe Robert don't think so ))
    Workflow shown in this video looks completely wrong. You must not add components onto PCB manually and set their references like R1, R2 and so on.
    All that you have to do is assign footprints in the schematic and then press "Read netlist" in PCB editor. In a result all components will be automatically placed on PCB.

    I would highly recommend you edit the symbols properties to assign a footprint. Then Annotate. Then you can either generate netlist and use that in PCBNew or click that "Update PCB from schematic" like you did.

    Good work, very clear but, before you added the power ports to the schematic, the circuit was complete and will function as it is drawn. Then you added the power ports which made it seem they were essential to have on the schematic and we both know they are just common names of the two nodes and are redundant for this design. Maybe just start off using the power ports instead of actually drawing wires for the +5 going to the switch and led return.

    Another method to draw a box is to set your grid to the minimum pitch you need and just draw your box the edges will snap to the nearest grid point you've selected. So if you were drawing a 40x60mm box you would step up to a 5mm grid and draw a perfect box at ninja speed. If you have a weird size board like 122x37 or design to fit constraints then this method isn't much different but I still uses it. cheers

      Hi Thad, thanks for the tip on this being a complete newbie on this PCB design lark it is a very useful tip. Also if you are designing a board in inches and you want to add an edge size in mm it will not snap to the 1.27 mm grid size. It makes sense to use either one or the other. Love the Ninja speed analogy:)

    At 14:37, the switch you used in the schematic editor changed from SPST to SPDT which cause some confusion when linking the schematic to the PCB. Other than that, it's been a good video.

    Question, I have a mentor that is teaching me electronics and we both are using KiCad. Problem is he lives about 8 kilometers from me, and sometimes I need for him to look over a schematic for me before I build the device. How can I copy the schematic and send it to him in an email? Great video, Thanks!

    • @PlumPot
      @PlumPot  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! :) In KiCad if you go File -> Archive project. You can zip your whole project and email that. Otherwise perhaps use Github and share the folder?

      Hi :) Yes you are correct, we did not want to cause too much confusion for people, who have never done PCB. But that is indeed the safest and best practise. We are planning to make a video on how to make your own footprints and schematic symbol. Then we will mention this. Thank you for pointing this out though and thanking you for taking the time to watch the video. It is greatly appreciated.

    • @PlumPot

      Thank you for your feedback :) The video quality is already 1080p, so maybe in future we need to 'zoom' in or something. I can imagine it is not readable when watching on a phone, but fullscreen on a computer should be fine. We will think about it for future videos.

    Completely wrong workflow, when you teach people you have even greater responsibility to know the right way and use the correct way, and not throw some footprints on PCB, then try to match it with the schematics.

    thanks so much! this was super awesome and easy to follow! i would like to see a tutorial on making a keyboard, and a usb c battery charger.
    to the people saying "this is the wrong workflow": consider the project and the audience. it's analogous to telling people using the scratch programming language that scratch is wrong. this tutorial does a great job at being clear. getting anything at all done is a lot more motivating than getting stuck on doing it the "right way" and never finishing.

    Just a quick question. Why should one never place a track with a 90 degree bend?

    • @PlumPot
      @PlumPot  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Andrew, it is actually legacy. So back in the day our manufacturing process was not as advanced as today. So making 90 degrees or less, causes acid traps. This is where the acid they use to etch away copper stays on the board.
      There is also practise that if you have a RF circuit then it might influence it.
      Basicaly for us hobby guys, we can use 90 degrees😋. Besides 45 degrees angles look so much better..in my opinion🙂 - JP

    The line controls to draw the outline of the board are not working like the ctrl+c, ctrl+d and ctrl+v.
    This only seems to happen when drawing the board outline.On the popup control window the Duplicate does not work either. Really strange and confusing for a newbie.

      So you can not copy and paste the board outline layer? What does it do? Sorry for late reply, if you want you can join our Discord channel much easier for me to help people on there :)

    • @KingWhiskers1
      @KingWhiskers1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PlumPot Hi Kiri, no, when you have created a line it will not copy, everything else seems to be working. It seems to only be on the edge cuts menu. If you hover over the end of a line over the + and right click to open up the pop out menu and click on Duplicate all my laptop does is make a ding sound, and the same for all the Ctrl + functions. It is not really a bother now I know how to get around it. Just thought it might be useful to know. I was wondering if it was perhaps version specific. What version are you running.

    • @KingWhiskers1
      @KingWhiskers1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Strange, it is now working as intended, can duplicate and use the ctrl+ functions. I haven't done anything to try to correct it either.

    Dear your lamp in the background is not equidistant from the two right angle walls. And the shade of the lamp is not matching with your furniture, it should have been the color of your chair or light brown or beige color. A PCB designer should pay attention to real life items too. This PCB was highly complex. Also you have three beautiful moles on your face, one on the right cheek and the other two on the forehead above the left eye-brow. It looks like the same constellation of Orion; same layout of Giza's Great Pyramids; so it proves you are from another star system. Thank you. Enjoyed watching it and gave your a thumbs up.
