The Behringer CAT is the Synthesizer I've been waiting for. The original Octave CAT is very rare and you don't see them come up ofter, so when Behringer announced that they were making a CAT Clone...well, I was a Happy Chappy!

In the Video I have gone through the various parts, demonstrated some functions and made a Track just using the Behringer CAT for everything, Drums, SFX, Bass, Lead, then Multi-sampled an EP and Pad.

Just bought the wasp deluxe earlier this week, I thought that had some dirty sounds. This one growls lovely, one for the list next year I think. Enjoyed the demo, thanks for showing some gritty sounds
The sound at the 11:54 mark is great how it starts out smooth. The filter opening up really gets scratchy in a good way. So yeah I see why its called the CAT.
In sound exploration vids, this synth just sounds like it makes all manner of cat-like noises. Really lives up to its name.
I just got mine for the Studio last week and definitely impressed and thank you for this great video!

Excellent review! I'm glad Behringer released this. Man, they've done so many great vintage synths in a relatively short period. I love it.
Mine's on order. I had a CAT SRM back in the 70's but got rid of it when I needed some cash and regretted it ever since......wonderful synth
Juicy. I love the early techno sounds which few synths ever seem to achieve of that huge grinding oscillator warble. Another one added to the shopping list!

I was just playing my DeepMind a few nights ago. Some of the patches that I bought from you are amazing! You really nailed the Vangelis sound on a few of the epic strings. I would love to see you do an album of original songs. There is very little epic synth music these days.

hi Jamie. Well done! Absolutely the best demo of this little synth that I have yet heard. I didn't think I'd be interested in this one as I have just bought a Pro1 (which I love, btw). Nevertheless, you have suitably demonstrated why this synth i such a sought after machine. It's a beast...and I want. Bugger the Model D...give me a CAT!

The Cat has such a ballsy sound that Octave should have called it the Lion or something bigger than a Cat. That thin has some serious growl.

I had an unreliable one back in the day so I got rid of it, but when it worked, it was a great synth. Behringer needs to update it's firmware like it did for the Model D and Neutron synths. Fix the sync issues, and the quirky poly modes and I'm sold. Maybe they put it out too fast. They've been putting out a lot of old mono synths without patch memory and the Deepmind is their only synth with patch memory. The UB-Xa has been on the drawing board for over a year and that's what I'm really hoping for.

You should, it's great...the best so far and is about the same size of the Model D, so can be tucked away.
One heck of a synth for $300. Sounds amazing to be quite honest.
I would like to see a comparison video between the cheap Behringer synths for different things. Like the pro1, neutron, Model d, cat etc each heading off to do the best (not most like a certain record, more like what can you do with each) leads, bass etc. I think it’d be a good concept for a video.

The Pro 1 is quite good actually, however if you can stretch to a Behringer pro-800 or even a DeepMind 12, it will allow you to make Polyphonic Sounds.
Good video. It's just like the original Cat - the unfiltered oscillator sounds are aggressive but usable by themselves. On many analogue synths the raw oscillator waveforms frankly sound naff.

Behringer Odyssey Vs Behringer CAT would make a good video, which one would you advise to buy
Well, the Odyssey is more immediate as it has the Keyboard plus it has FX, albeit, Mono FX. That said, I prefer the sound of the Cat, but that's just personal preference
Great demo! Can you tell me if you merge in some midi clock into the USB or MIDI IN, can you get the LFO to sync to midi?
I looked for a manual on the Behringer site, but could not find one.
I was going to get a Behringer K-2 to go with my Korg MS-20Kit, but the low note priority would be perfect with the MS-20 which is high note.
Getting them to talk would be no problem, as I would use a Kenton USB2MIDI out of the back of the MS-20Kit, to use the MS-20Kit as a midi controller, and then merge midi clock in, of course, only if the LFO can be midi clocked on the Cat.

Yes, I made all the drums on the CAT, Sampled them into Maschine.

it's just some Native Intruments Plug-Ins, nothing fancy.
the synth sounds are really loud, comparing to Your voice. Could You level them ? (the synths are blasting way over 0dBtp and your voice is around -6-10dBtp)
трололо жирнота yeah, had to use my back up, the separate audio failed and after recording for 2 hours, i wasn’t going to do it all again.
I tried to see if I could replace the audio but can't would have to re-upload...anyway, people can get to hear it, no doubt there will be better Reviews done by others. :)

Great review. Can you please say something about +/- 2-octave switch? Is it playable? Does portamento work when you switch it? I love this function on Odyssey, wondering how it behaves here...

I did actually, but there was something rattling around in it...I did plug it in though and there seemed to be a "Whine" from the screen, though it could have been a fault. I sent it back and don't have plans to buy another.

I thought I would buy this one but realized I have a Arturia Minibrute.
Badass sounding little mono this one. The bass sounds like it will rip you a new one. I think a comparison of Cat vs D bass would be cool. So many great mono's about now. What does a man have to do to get a cheap vintage sounding poly though?

Behringer should be sending you free synths in exchange for designing them sound sets to include with the manuals
I don't think they work with 3rd Parties like myself as they know users will do reviews and demo's, plus they have their own team for Videos...not thought about doing Patches for these little Synths though.
@@GEOSynths They should diversify their patch building team. The factory presets for the Deepmind were not very good and did not show off its full capabilities.
I wonder what settings you had to make the bassline patch at 2:30 ?

Cat has more modulation more oscillators and timbre variation. 101 has a classic roland sound - simple techno beast for simple techno leads melodies and bass. The rest is up to you and your needs

Can you change the low note priority on the synth tool app to something different?
thirfy tash no, not as yet...it is tricky to play up the keys, just needs getting used to or an update.
@@GEOSynths thanks! I can't see them not allowing you to change that in the future as it seems like something that can be done in software, i think they have that option on some of their other synths?

Chemicall brothers loved that cat ,it is very prominent in allot of there tracks.At 17.56 that sound you played is so heavy! it will be hard to decide this or the pro one. Thank you for the video loved it!

The Cat is what they used to play the solo on Orange Wedge on from their 3rd album. I always wondered what synth they used and was able to ask them directly last time they played here in Denver. Nice guys.

Personally its all a pro exept that 2 only cons:
The first : it has no preset memory, and pity cause isn't a semimodular synth so it could have been at least a simple way to save few sounds from which begin. Don't know ; like 20 "types" of sounds ?
The second is pretty personal: I just don't like the faders on filter.
