    Hi Steve and Alex I agree with your dad that jobs and nightmare. I know he means with the insulation I would turn down jobs even if I never had any work. It’s a nightmare by Mario determination but your old school and get the job done. Thanks again for showing us, this hope you have the op soon

    Hi Steve, I have a bricklaying company in Exeter, all extensions and new builds are cavity bats like that, I am used to working with them now! Have been since I started my apprenticeship in 2010, that’s all we ever use down here!

    Thanks for another upload. Think I would struggle getting my blockwork neat enough for that insulation. If I could give one piece of advice it would be for young Alex to branch out and get with a good all round builder who has plenty on. He should try absorbing every aspect of building so one day can go out and take on his own work. That might be for others or his own developments. Doing all them lintels won't teach him that. Hes a grafter and you have taught him well.

    Steve, i really like the channel but take this as you will... you've got to give Alex more responsibility setting out etc, you and your hip need to be resting as much as possible. Rather than Alex making funny hand gestures making you look small behind the camera get him learning how to set lines up etc... again, massive fan of the channel and have been subscribed for years but jesus christ get the lad taking some responsibility after years in the trade. It makes me feel your pain seeing you in pain haha

    There's alot worse insulation out there , the full fill with plastic on the outside. Where the wall ties go you have to cut with saw to sit them flat. Has to be perfect or you end up cutting sheets down. Once you get used to it . Its much better stuff. Try build 2 course on the outside and than 2 on the inside. All done from inside the slab . Than pop in your insulation. May make it easier for you.

    Non-Trade watcher. Crazy that this is such a ball-ache yet Gov is happy for these old 1900's properties to have full fill insulation and its 'fine'. I think the future will be outside skin, tanking membrane, 100mm full fill pir insulation, inside skin or similar.

  • @FerryFalco
    @FerryFalco หลายเดือนก่อน

    As Columbo used to say 'Just one more thing..' (one for your dad there). Because it's internal insulation the dew point in the wall changes dramatically. So the internal heat within the home hits the insulation and because it's non porous any condensation will begin on both the inner and out skins of it. Then it'll hopefully drip down and hit the DPC from above. So where does that moisture go after that?

    • @FerryFalco
      @FerryFalco หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      you could have occasional weep vents placed at dpc level on both the outer block layer and the in-between insulation joins. This naturally creates a point cold bridge on the insulation but gives somewhere for the condensation go. Hmm..there is another solution that prevents the cold bridge and still lets the water out but it'll add more time. I guess that'll be included in the price next time..

      @@SteveAndAlexBuild Certainly external insulation is easier to think about solving because you just stick it to the outside and put some weep vents at the bottom. No doubt though with Net Zero it's becoming a staple part of construction. Your partial retrofit is awkward because of Building Regs and the narrow alleyways either side of the house ((fire escape etc')). B Regs only going to get worse so I reckon you need to keep on evolving & perfecting that methodology.
