Hey Rolling Earth-Ship (Luis)!!! That Webasto heater is another item that I will need to get more information about. I appreciate you letting us know about it. Yep;[9:12] if you want it done right, you gotta do it yourself. Stay warm, continue to be safe and careful out there and Thank you for sharing. 😎
I installed a Chinese unit in October of 2018. I have been using it without issue. The longest I have run it so far at one time is 7.5 hours. The battery was not affected and the van started right up. These things are awesome. All I need to do is insulate my van a bit to try and hold in the warm air. A project for this summer.
Howdy Luis, many thanks for sharing yet another very entertaining and informative 'high production ' video here which I watched with great interest and undivided attention as usual.Just keep the ball rolling pal, your efforts are highly appreciated. Best wishes and cordial greetings from William across the Big Pond.
Thanks for the info. Not much videos that talk about the webasto. Love the idea that you don't have to deal with an extra fuel tank. I plan living in a minivan in Montreal Canada. Gets very cold in winter. Do you think a 2 kw motor is effective?
I live in Canada. We have -30 degrees in the winter. I bought a 2kw wabasto and I had nothing but trouble because it won't work past -20 celcius. I now have a Chinese diesel heater 5kw and I have never been happier.
Same here. I have been punishing mine for years and it just keeps on going - I bought a second one because they were so good. The fact that they are chinese (is the only actual bad thing about them.
I had to chuckle when I seen you useing the quill pen I am adding a diesel one in my rv I hv to install my self as my local rv shop would not for all the reasons u said they didn't want drill into the tank , so this old man has to do it my self ,no big deal except I'm lazy and hate to get out of my rocking chair , I'm still waiting for it to arrive You are correct if you want it done right do it yourself In my van years ago I didn't want to pack a generator so I got a 100 hundred Amp alternator and then put on a 5/8 smaller diameter pulley so at idling speed I was charging at a little over 30 Amps
You may not have to drill into the tank, there maybe an accessory port on the fuel sending/fuel pump sending unit !!!! Check it out, probably have to drop the tank or cut a hole in floor above !!!
Thanks Remember when you added this Would be interested in under carriage insulation that can be removed . Is that added “goop” / insulation you added removable if service is required ?
Rolling Earth-Ship I wonder if installer consider potential trouble shooting in days and weeks after install and having below floor space left open would allow access to connections, etc
Thanks for sharing, I’m not 100% sure, but I seen in another video that the muffler has to be mounted with the dip up. Because there is a weep hole on the straight side that is designed to drain moisture. Looks like yours might be upside down.
Hello, you mentioned that the installer missed a couple of things during the install of the heater to the floor. Did you notice/check the fuel connection at the tank?
Would you mind explaining how the rheostat/control knob works? Will the unit shut off based where you set the knob or will it kick out air at a temperature (based on the knob setting) and run continuously until you shut it off? Thanks for the video, btw! :)
When I turn the knob to a certain location that by experience I already know it will stay at lets say 68 degrees, then the Webasto will heat up the van till it reaches that temperature, afterwards it will stop blowing heat and only the fan will circulate air through the unit. When the inside temperature drops it starts heating up again repeating the process. Hope that helps. 🖖🏻🚐
@@misocveticanin578 The Webasto Air Top analog rheostat controller does not have a temp sensor in it; the sensor unit is located within the heating unit itself. Regardless, the controller and the sensor work in unison to control the vehicle interior ambient air temp to what has been positioned on the dial rheostat controller. If one upgrades to the digital controller or buys a kit featuring the digital controller, that controller has a temp sensor located in the controller, so it will sample ambient air temps at the height at which the controller is placed.
Hi,I just got a bus that came with the heater.I’m having trouble with it’s time.I have the exact same control but mine goes off if the engine is off even tho the control is showing green.Do I have to leave the key in ignition for it to work continuously?
It should have nothing to do with your ignition unless the power was connected to the ignition system or to anything that is only on when your vehicle is on. Check the wiring and make sure it’s not. If it is get a house battery like I have and connect it to it. 👍🏻🖖🏻
Good review Luis. How many KW or BTU is your model? It'll be interesting to see if both German manufacturers of these heaters survive now that the Chinese have entered this market.
After stealth camping do you like not having windows or windows more? I’ve only done a small amount of stealth camping in my other van and now my new one doesn’t have windows, can’t decide whether to install any🤔
That hole they drilled is ridiculous and left it open. they could have drilled a hole for each pipe then sealed it around each one instead of making you have to fill it with a few tubes of caulking. Your right do it yourself if you want it done right.
I used to have a diesel one. I really hated the smell. It didn't seem healthy. Does the gasoline one have any smell? How much electricity does it use over a 24 hour period (if that is 1 gallon of gas, how much electricity used?)
I don’t remember how many amps it uses precisely, I think about 8 when it’s running. I do know that I don’t have enough power to run it in the winter when it’s cloudy most of the time, and I have 325 watts on the roof and 510amps battery power. 🚐👍🏻🖖🏻
@@RollingEarthShip ah that's a shame. 8*12 is about 100 watts per hour, which is kind of a lot actually. You can get a hot carpet the size of a single bed and run that for just 200w/hour. The carpet has to be the size of the area you want to heat though to work, and your insulation has to be decent. I use two large ones in my studio apartment during winter as my only source of heat and it works great.
Have you done any routine maintenance on it yet? I did a self install and after a month of use errored out. Had to disassemble and clean a lot of soot out of it. I hope it was because of High Altitude use in Denver.
Jake in Dorr, Michigan installed diesel unit in my gas transit van. 3 gallon tank under hood and furnace under passenger seat. Diesel low volatility and not voiding warranty by tapping the vehicle unit. I bought this after seeing your video. Seems like a pint of diesel burns all night. Total cost $1090. Several nights between -5 and +6 and worked great on lowest temp with high top extended length with no insulation in roof.
Can you tell me about how hot the output is on these? I’m worried that it may melt some of me venting in my truck as I am wanting to tap into the factory vents. Thanks for the video
I dont know if it would melt your ducting but I can tell you, the air coming out of the webasto is hot, very hot. It gets hot enuff you cant hold your hand in front of it. Mine is not connected to the van duct work. It is on the floor and I keep tue vent oointed up so it isnt blowing on the carpet. I think it could possibly melt my carpet

12v or 24v u set the one u like
