Is this type folk music from western Virginia or around there? I'm from Finland so I don't know a lot about American folk music
Yep it’s folk. A lot of American folk music came over from Europe and then came down through generations of oral tradition and the songs added verses and changed a bit. A lot of it got kind of saved up in the Appalachian mountains and then eventually written down and preserved so that’s why you might hear of it coming from Virginia.
This song depends on feeling and this performance has that. There is no pre-set for heartfelt. Also, the words here tell more of a story than some of the other versions.
