I have just discovered this channel, and it's amazing. Such a wealth of knowledge for a wildlife photographer, so many beautiful pictures. I have always had problems with getting good pictures of some of the animals you've got here, and it's wonderful to learn new tricks. I'm currently binging through all your videos, thanks for all the wonderful work you've done.

I think your idea of setting the ISO to the maximum that doesn't detoriate the image quality too much is very interesting. You had mentioned it in a video prior to this one, after which I decided to give it a try. It works a charm! I had never thought of it, but it is indeed very helpful to keep things simple when action starts and every second counts. I like to shoot manual when I have some time (maybe some kind of false pride, I just seem to like being in control... ;) ) but for walking around or when conditions change quickly, I tend to use Av in combo with this trick more and more. Thank you!

Good one Mike. Nice to see placid deer, here in Aus they would be off like the proverbial rabbit so a not to be shot. BTW, I still find it hilarious each time I hear someone from Britain talk about getting down on the 'floor', that is in a building over here and outdoors it is on the 'ground', different strokes I guess.

It should be 'ground' for outdoors. Not sure when or why people started using 'floor' - it drives me mad to hear it used incorrectly. Floor is indoors, ground is outdoors!!

Your photography and videography is exceptional. Love your videos and your commentary -- I'm glad that, at 62, I am still willing to learn from others. Thank you!

I haven’t been to Knowle park in Sevenoaks since I was a child. I really should visit again to see the beauty of this natural area of interest again as an adult with new eyes as it were. Thank you for this video.

Very interesting sika deer facts, and I found the info on settings useful, too. I see sika deer on the hills around my village in West Dorset. I always think the stags look grumpy!!

Lovely animals. I think that a polariser would have been good on the bracken shots, just to take the shine off the leaves

Not that it really matters... but... if we were to use the more modern (1867) Hepburn transliteration, the deer would be called shika -- with 'shi' sounding like the English 'she' rather than 'si' sounding like the English 'see'. And the Japanese recognize some seven subspecies of shika -- the ezoshika in Hokkaido being the largest, with males weighing in at roughly 140 kg, while the diminutive yakushika of Yakushima are the smallest at only 40 kg. Regardless, the images are all just cracking.
