  • Noted for his black comedy on topics like politics, the English language, psychology, religion and many taboo subjects. A routine on censorship called The Seven Dirty Words" became subject of a Supreme Court case F.C.C. v. Pacifica Foundation. The 5-4 decision sadly affirmed government regulation of the airwaves. He is considered one of the greatest and most influential comics of all time. He filmed 14 HBO specials. In the late 80's he began focusing on criticism of American society. Carlin hosted the first episode of SNL. He was post-humously awarded the Mark Twain Award for American Humor.
    George was Irish and Catholic. He rejected his Catholicism and played an excellent role in Dogma as Cardinal Glick. His mother left his father due to alcoholism. Carlin appreciated his mother's ability to get what she wanted with the Egnlish language but often ran away from home. He was concieved born and raised in NYC. Carlin had a troubled record in school. Eventually joining the Air Force as a radar tech he began DJing and was considered unproductive by his superiors. After numerous court martials and nonjudicial punishments he was discharged.
    Carlin teamed up with comedian George Burns and they were a hit in the beat scene. They recorded an album at KDAY studios where Carlin asked for his Hollywood Star to be placed. Separating on good terms to pursue separate careers Carlin began to play characters on TV variety shows. He recorded an album Take Offs and Put Downs in 1966. He began to get TV exposure and became a regular on The Tonight Show and became Johnny Carson's most go-to substitute. Carlin was at a show Lenny Bruce was arrested for Obscenity, look him up if you haven't heard of that comedy legend, when police asked audience members for ID Carlin said he did not believe in government issued ID and was also arrested, taken to jail in the same vehicle as Bruce. Carlin made enough money to have a private jet.
    Carlin reinvented himself, initial seen as conventional appearing in a suit and short hair to faded jeans, long hair and earrings, against the norm. He soon caught on. His new album in 1972 FM & Am references his new, FM, vs his old AM style and marked his shifted from mainstream to counterculture, analyzing the word shit, talking about weed, birth control, etc. This is when he perfected the Seven Dirty Words routine and was arrested for obscenity. The charge was dismissed so long as there was no disturbance. An FCC complaint from his radio broadcast Operation Foole. The FCC ruled against Carlin "the routine was "indecent but not obscene" and FCC can regulate to protect the children.
    This increased his fame, expended the list to a "incomplete list of Impolite Words" in his HBO special Carling at Carnegie. Midway during Operation Foole Carlin is notified he won a Grammy for FM & AM and responded "Shit!" before announcing it to the audience.
    In the 80's his acting career took off, as the mentor in the Bill & Ted movies, as Mr. Conductor on a PBS kids show Shining Time Station and narrating segments of Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends replacing Ringo Starr, also Mr. Conductor in later variants of the show. He later had a show on Fox The George Carlin Show. He was happy when it got cancelled for taking away form his career.
    Carlin had neglected business affairs and issues with the IRS, saying he is not bitter about paying taxes and takes responsibility. He was happy with it in effect made him a better comic, writer and actor. He received a lifetime achievement award at the American Comedy Awards in 2001. In 2003 a California congressman tried unsuccessfully to outlaw a version of Carlin's "Seven Dirty Words" from broadcast. He died in 2008 with 18 comedy albums, 4 audiobooks, and 14 HBO specials. He had four Grammys among other awards.

      Look inside yourself, say aloud what you think about our current social climate. How you feel about some people STILL believing the election was stolen, that Trump was ever president, let alone that folks are convinced he still is. Or how there was a virus, something he constantly said needed to happen, how there was a vaccine made in record time to combat it, and people STILL refused it. Likely you know what he would say, cause you are already thinking it.

    • @ivankaleoniefuchs333
      @ivankaleoniefuchs333 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Many billions of people have achieved their American dreams since das first European cultures settled then colonized das North American continent. If someone has not achieved their American dream then it ist because they haven't achieved their goals. It ist their own lacking to achieve them...not anyone else's fault or responsibility. This quote by Carlin only exhibits his lacking of knowledge showing his ignorance of Science, History, und "Political/Social Practices" that he almost always exaggerated, misquoted, or provided incomplete, inaccurate, or blatantly incorrect information when making his own biased conclusions. 75% of his satire was simply wrong in any common general sense. Carlin wrote his comedy simply to appease whatever ignorance was das current popular conspiracy "belief".
      Carlin's satire was unique in one specific area...He criticized und ridiculed everyone who he claimed had only their own "self-interest" in mind that he said never impressed him. Carlin spoke of "self-interest" as if it was supposed to be a bad thing.
      haha...How ironic? I'm quite sure Carlin felt much "self-interest" for his own book sales und comedy show's money-machine.
      Carlin was a great comedian, a legend, one of a kind who will be missed by many, especially Americans...But a prophet, philosopher, or scholar of any discipline he certainly was not. He exaggerated und sensationalized almost everything he claimed until it became no longer any semblance of truth.
      Truth does not require anyone's permission. :)
      Enjoy your TH-cam day. :)
      Auf Wiedersehen aus Wiesbaden

      News flash: not all water is high quality culinary water. Scientists can detect and study bacteria, viruses, and pathogens. Not all raw sewage contains the polio virus. Some contains typhoid cholera and other deadly pathogens. Pestilence is concerned with infectious diseases and plague. Globally polio has been almost entirely eradicated. In areas of conquest, war, pestilence, famine, and death healthcare is unobtainable. George Carlin was lucky and dropped out of school at age 14 in 1951 heavy sarcasm intended.

    Great thing about George Carlin for comedy enthusiasts is Carlin created NEW material every year! He made a decision somewhere along the line that he was not going to recycle old material.
    Nope! Every year Carlin threw out all his old material, grabbed a pencil & paper and committed himself to creating new material. No repeats! All new ideas. An incredibly awesome task considering many comics recycle their stuff year after year for 8-10 years or so.

Richard Pryor and Robin Williams were Legends, but Carlin was the Master! There were a few others not listed such as Dangerfield, Candy, Wilder and more... but of all the Comedians even going back to the 40s... the only other Comedian of All Time that I could put on the same page as Carlin would have to be none other than Bobe Hope! To give you a bit of perspective I was born in 1980. I watched Hear No Evil and See No Evil when I was about 4-5 years old! I've been watching stand up nearly my entire life! And yes, Carlin is not underrated. About a year ago I did an online search for top 100 best comedians of all times and I came across 5 or 6 different ranked sites. At least three of them if not four had Carlin listed at #1. The other few had him at least in the top 3. Pryor, Williams and Hope were the other candidates within the top 4. I just remembered that George Carlin is easily my favorite comedian of all time hand down.. No one really comes close to his level of clever rationale and highly intelligent raw blunt delivering of absolute undeniable truth.. his very wise unapologetic and relatable style of conveying such a valuable message is what solidifies him and his material as one of if not the greatest comedian of all time. Imo (in my opinion) he will always be the undisputed undebatable (unfuck-withable) GOAT. The peoples champ of comedy and truthspeak. The one and only G-COAT if you will.. (Greatest Comedian OF All Time)
    I hope this fan-made youtube video/audio of George Carlin can serve as some sort of remedy that has a medicinal effect on your mind body and soul.. I know I personally find his brand of food for thought and any subsequential laughter that may follow to be spiritually cleansing.

    • @froggy187888
      @froggy187888 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      He didn't predict the future, nothing has changed for hundreds of years. I think George would explain it something as this. "The world is filled with morons, I mean absolutely bursting at the seams with absolute mindless automatons. What kind of civilisation, if you could call it a civilisation folks because i think in order to be a civilisation ladies and gentlemen you first have to be civil to each other. Something I've found is sorely lacking if you look at how we live, which brings me back to the point about morons. We have been fuckin each other for hundreds of years, destroying anything that could be considered civil within our civilisation then complain about how shit life is. The definition of a moron folks is someone who does the same thing over and over again and still thinks they will get a different result." I've watched a lot of George 😂😂😂
