Tom Baker lives in a pretty rural town, where I live. He is seen very often walking along the high street saying hello to all who recognise him and still going strong I’m glad to say. Lovely man💕💕
He was my Favourite Doctor Who and always will be. God Bless HIm.
Same here, the best
I always think of David Tennant as my favorite Doctor Who, but Tom Baker IS Doctor Who. He always will be. .
What town or village is that
Love Tom Baker, even as a child in the 70's he fascinated me with his warm personality and slightly eccentric behaviour, he used to do The Book Tower aswell, you could listen to his dulcet tones for hours. He was great in that one episode of Black Adder too as Captain Redbeard Rum. 😂😂
April 24 and what i like about this video is everybody is still alive, being in my early sixties i remember everybody mentioned here, Anybody else remember them well ????
Sadly, yes! Haha
Absolutely! Great memories 👍🏻👍🏻
Yes, all of them and it's great that they're still with us.
Yes
Yes
Ahh life was just better back then ⭐️
Agreed. No social media or mobile phones great music brilliant TV and movies and life was a whole lot simpler..
@@johnrider5701 Beware the fuzziness of rose tinted spectacles. There was plenty of other awfulness happening back then. On the other hand, I think you may be right about social media and phones. Something blatantly zombie deranged about the cesspit that's become.
Agreed, we had laughter,I don't think that is allowed much now
@@johnrider5701would be nice to go back
Where you there? Don't youbremember the 3 Day and the troubles in Northern Ireland which lead to dozens of terrorist incidents in the British mainland.🙄
Fellow men of culture in our 50s will definitely appreciate some of the beautiful ladies here.
Indeed!
Felicity and Sally (James) specifically I would say for me personally. Though I also had a massive crush on Penny Keith. It was that 'haughty but naughty' thing she had going on.
Some of the ladies from the 1970s were a bit of alright@@tonopdebank6718
Normally a young bloke in his late teens wouldn’t watch a kid’s show like Magpie, but that Jenny Hanley…..
As for this 50 year old, it's Ian Ogilvy and Peter Perves for me, and I might have had a bit of a crush on Chris Tarrant haha!
I'm getting in my time machine and going back....got room for a few passengers, but it's a one way trip.
I want to come too. This world is stuffed.
Yes please
Include me too😊
Book me a seat please.
I was a teenager in the late 70s & early 80s so seeing Sally James, Jenny Hanley, Felicity Kendal & Paula Wilcox brought make some memories.
I’ll bet they did 😜
They were all my favourites. I miss the seventies ❤
Couldn't agree more
Remember every single face shown here. The role-call of my childhood.
Roll call
It'll take a lot to beat this collection of true stars.
Valerie Singleton? Still alive, going on 87.
Surprised she wasn't worth a mention in the Blue Peter section?
Derek Griffiths and the sadly departed Brian Cant were my favourites from Play School. I was thrilled at the age of 50 to see Derek appearing in my local pantomine in Norwich a few years ago. Seeing him (still very sprightly!) I just felt about 5 years old again, it was wonderful .
The musical themes for Bod have been my internal soundtrack for my whole life - a whole parade of perfect melodies and riffs that I first heard as an infant and which still fill me with joy nearly 50 years later. I only recently thought to look up who actually composed these and was astounded to discover that it was Derek Griffiths, who is the earliest face I can remember outside my own family (along with Fred Harris, another Play School presenter of the same era). He's a hugely talented man who genuinely helped make the world a better place.
My favorite on playschool was little ted, I remember Hambel gave me the creeps 😂
Yes Derek and Brian were the legends back then
I was part of the stage management team on that Pantomime. Derek is a darling!
I'm the same anytime I see Dame Floella Benjamin - and she often refers to her followers as her play schoolers.
Another actress from the '70's that I really enjoy is Francis de la Tour.
Miss Jones.
Frances
Lovely trip down memory lane. Thanks
Oooo I feel Old 🫣🇬🇧👍
Each and everyone of them should be proud of themselves, They have entertained a nation, if not the world over the years . Well done and thank you.
Sadly, we lost too many stars from the '70s due to Covid! RIP!
Covid my a*se.
I found it quite touching that Robin Ellis, who played the original Poldark, was also given a role as the Reverend in the 2015 remake.
So nice to see a compilation of this sort where all the stars featured are still breathing ! So sad to see all the greats who have already left us!👍👍👍
Brian Cant, Playaway, brings back so many childhood memories!
I'm a pair, I'm a pair, I'm a pair.
What kind of pair am I?
I'm a pair of knickers.
Prunella Scales still has lovely skin. Looks great for 91.
What a lovely trip down memory lane :)
Thanks!
Paula Wilcox is 3 years my senior...
As a young man in the 1970's, I was crazy in love with Paula on "Man About The House"
Such a beautiful woman...❤
Penelope keith looks incredible for her age.
I had such a crush on her
What a great, respectful, nostalgic look back at so many of our TV Stars! Jenny Hanley was my schoolboy crush and I still have two telegrams reminding me to watch Magpie as I had sent in a piece of ironstone in the shape of Murgatroyd the Magpie. It was sent to a girl that painted stones and she painted to look 'even more like Murgatroyd' as Jenny said as she held it up during Newsdesk. She sent it back to me with a signed letter! -swoons at the memory- I still have those too. Some of those included I've had the pleasure of meeting over the years were Richard O'Sullivan, Michael Palin, Bill Oddie and Joanna Lumley -Swoons again-!
Oh wow, that's fantastic. A great set of stars you have met too. Wonderful.
I think Jenny Hanley can now be heard on BOOM radio.
@@SuperKanonier Thank you
I used to watch Jenny on Magpie as a kid.
I then saw her in a Hammer Horror film and saw her boobies too!
Excellent post. Makes me pine for the 70s.
Thanks!
Saw Peter Purves and immediately thought 'Kickstart' ! Used to love watching that.
Me too. Great series.
As soon as i saw this comment, the tune came straight to me,i had bikes then and still have.😀
I saw the word Kickstart and immediately thought of Dougie Lampkin seemingly winning every episode.
@@Boppa1260 I know nothing about bikes but remember 'GasGas' from Kickstart 🙂
Eddie legurn was always winning too
Great selection of real stars, remember all of these from way back when television was so very good. Thanks for these and great to hear they are all basically still going well.
Thank you for a great video it brings back memories of when British tv was at its best. I’m 69 and I can say most if not all featured gave me a lot of pleasure through those years. Hard to say who is the best because they were all professional and masters of the craft of acting.
Glad you enjoyed the memories! Thanks.
All those I grew up watching through the 70s and 80s and Monty Python was always my fave of all.
Michael was my favourite Python!
Sally James still looks awesome
Never understood why the answer to the question "Dad, can we watch Swap Shop this week?" was always "Don't you bloody dare!"
Nerys Hughes, Paula Wilcox, Jenny Handley and Joanna Lumley were stunning, struggling to get my head around Sally James being 73 but then I guess i'm not 10 either
A man after my own heart
Thank you very much. As an elderly English lady, who has lived in the old DDR for the last 20 years, this was such a wonderful walk down memory lane..Thank you once more.
Glad you enjoyed the memories! Many thanks.
With very few exceptions they all look fantastic. Stanley Baxter at 97 looks particularly amazing IMO. Thank you for making this I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Glad you enjoyed it! Many thanks.
Peter Purves and Valerie Singleton opened my school fête in 1968. They attended to help us bury a time capsule of school memories to opened in 2018. When it was opened in 2018, the contents were intact and are now on display in the school which is still open today in its original Victorian building. Happy memories.
Oh wow, that's fantastic.
Thats brilliant
That retirement home for actors would make a great series or film. Assuming they were all up for it😊
Not a bad idea at all!
(Cockneys Vs Zombies) your film wish is granted...
I remember seeing Paula Wilcox in still open all hours too recently playing the part of the supposedly mother of Granvilles son and for her age it has to be said that she looked amazing and very elegant like as though she had hardly aged 😊
Enjoyable trip down the past. One I think overlooked is Sally Thomsett. Tomorrow the 3rd of April she'll be 74.
Absolute treat of a video. Very informative and so much better than those robotic AI narrated videos. Great work.
That's great to hear! Many thanks.
Lovely trip down memory lane. It is wonderful to learn many stars of my youth who brought such joy into my life are well and (mostly) still kicking. Thank you!
When you put all these entertainers/actors/writers etc I just cannot believe where all those years have gone
But hey I’m nearly 59 so I’m getting on
Stanley Baxter still alive - nearly 100🏴🏴❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏😍😍👍 👍
Hey! I'm 59 in 3 months myself. I've decided that time speeds up the older you get. Not a bad thing all things considered. Still got all my marbles so I'm loving it personally.
Erm Stanley Baxter is 🏴🏴
@@neilmurray7330 yes I know
I put the St George’s flag to say where I’m from
😃😃😍
I'm 59 in 2 weeks and one day. Never felt better!
Thank you so much for this. These people are Gods and Goddesses........virtually family 😊
Especially Mr Palin 🙂
As with any group of people some are ageing better than others.
These fine British TV stars were a part of my youth.
Thank you. 👍
They all look great considering their ages. Tom Baker, my favourite Dr, Who. met him a few times and he was so interested when I told him that he was brought up in the same area as my Mum & Dad. :)
That's fantastic. Sounds like a lovely chap.
Can’t believe his age-how did that happen??!
Derek Griffiths seemed to be in every kids educational tv programme. Whenever i see him i always think of "Can Becomes Cane With Me, Man Becomes Mane With Me, Magic Magic E"
I always think of the show Heads and Tails when I see Derek Griffith.
I remember him growing up, and again when teaching "Magic, magic E."
It's refreshing to see a video that delivers what it says on the tin.
Ah, the wonderful Paula Wilcox was my first schoolboy crush.
Many red raw teenage bishops due to paula.
She was a dislocated wrist, man. @@johncorrall1739
@@johncorrall1739 😂😂😂👍🏻
@@johncorrall1739I hope your eyesight is okay ? 😂😂😂
I always wanted to grow up to be as beautiful and strong as Paula 💜
Stanley Baxter is a genius !
Thankyou for the trip down memory lane.I used to enjoy watching Una Stubbs in Worzel Gummage along with Follyfoot and upstairs downstairs.
I've always had very soft spot for Richard O'Sullivan ( wanted to marry him when I was 10 - in 1974) - lovely to see him included, and of course many others, making this an absolutely cracking video to watch.
Many thanks!
Lovely to see that Michael Palin is still busy travelling! He is bringing out a new series on Channel 5 about travelling to Nigeria this month!
Sorry I had dibs on him then 😂
@@stuviewtvo'sullivan had several strokes as he was an alcoholic. He's pretty well fucked
90% of these actors have been part of my youth, talk about nostalgia.🥺🥺🥺
pleased to see some of those that I had (incorrectly) thought had died. Didnt see Jenny Agutter amongst them?
Aww thanks again Stu. This was smashing. Every one of these people brings back great memories, but I think it’s Derek Griffith that is really my childhood. I must also mention the late and missed Bernard Cribbins.
Glad you enjoyed it Andrea. Thanks!
Excellent video, reminds me of my teens in the seventies and eighties ..........
Thanks!
So many televisual memories here thank you so much!😁👍
My pleasure!
Chloe Ashcroft and Brian Cant ❤
Also, it's lovely to see the ladies aging gracefully. No waxy skinned trout pouts here thankyou very much 😃
So glad to see so many alive important people of our past.😊
This is probably the first video of this format you've made where I remember all of them. Loved watching and I look forward to the next one. Thank You.
Thanks as ever Owen. Always much appreciated!
That was one of the best if not theee best "Then and Now" compilations; the right photos with the right information and so up lifting to 'catch-up' with favourite tv stars of our childhood. Thank you.
That's great to hear! Many thanks.
What a marvellous review. Good to catch up with friends. God Bless
Many thanks.
Thank you a great walk down memory lane
Paula Wilcox appears that she will always be a beautiful woman.
What a wonderful video! Thank you 🙂
Glad you enjoyed it. Many thanks.
Another great video. Fond memories of most of those shows/actors. I find that it is the children’s TV entertainers that I hold on to…..Brian Cant, Derek Griffiths, Play School, Playaway, Bod, You and Me, Camberwick Green, Trumpton, Bagpuss, Ivor the engine, John Craven’s Newsround and early Blue Peter, with the fabulous John Noakes. They were not only great presenters/actors, they were great teachers too. Thanks to all of them, and to you Stuview.
Many thanks.
This was a wonderful trip down memory lane. And I'm Australian. Thankyou so much.
So glad you enjoyed it. Many thanks!
The television shows in the 70s and eighties were so much better than the s_ _t that is on our screens today,
I’m not sure about that!
Fantastic memories. Thanks, Stu.
My pleasure!
I'd add John Craven to the list, a welcome ever present of my childhood tv viewing. Oh, +1 for the Paula Wilcox crush..
Great shout with John Craven
Mentioned Roper, O'Sullivan and Paula, but not Sally Thomsett? Wonder what happened there.
I worked with a bloke who's son won a pair of John Craven's signed trousers.
I would love to meet all these stars from my childhood...❤
When the pic of Wendy Craig came on screen, I thought it was Meg Jackson from the Australian soap drama Prisoner 😂😂
Brilliant, Thank you, but you missed a trick... Prunella Scales also played a staring roll in 'Hobson's Choice' (1954) along side the greatest of actors Charles Laughton & Sir John Mills. Just thought I'd make a mention as It's my absolute favourite movie;)
Thanks for this little video. From the thumbnail I almost swooned at Jenny Hanley, both she and Sally James were huge crushes of my schooldays although i remember feeling some of the shine going when Ms Hanley's brother turned up as a Tory Cabinet Minister of the early 90s.
Stanley Baxter use to do a New Years show.
Always loved Prunella Scales, God bless her
Well done great video takes me back 👍🏿
Many thanks
Absolutely brilliant viewing stu hope you do many more
Many thanks!
So pleased to see Brian Murphy here. Legend as George Roper.
I just wish they'd make him a Sir. He deserves it
Absolutely.
I remember seeing Frank Finley the star of Bouquet & Barbed Wire back in the 70s, many times whilst shopping in Waitrose in Weybridge, He sadly passed away in Weybridge in 2016 aged 89 years. Such a fine actor & very handsome man in his day.
Thoroughly enjoyed that and a really great set of stars. Brought back some fantastic childhood memories.
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks!
Children's TV presenters from the 70's included Johnny Ball, Floella Benjamin, Toni Arthur, Chloe Ashcroft, Valerie Singleton, John Craven, Fred Harris, Carol Leader, Mick Robertson, Susan Stranks, Fred Dinenage and Michael Rodd.
& Stan Boardman; he was the original presenter on Southern Televisions ' Runaround' in 1975 to 77.
Thank you so much for bringing back so many wonderful memories. I left for Canada in the mid-70's and so it was great to catch up on many of the stars that I hadn't seen since then.
Thanks for another nostalgia-fest, Stu ! I remember all these actors and presenters. Probably my fave series of the 70s was "Rising Damp" so it was nice to see Don Warrington included. I think Frances De La Tour is still with us as well. Also nice to see Michael Crawford from "Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em". I thought Michele Dotrice as the long-suffering Betty might get a mention, but maybe another time. I saw Tom Baker once doing a book-signing through a shop window around 1979/1980. Once seen, never forgotten, lol.
Francis De La Tour plays the wonderful, yet eccentric Mother of Professor T. Played by Ben Miller. Fantastic actress.
Thanks Carole. Two great names you mentioned there. I'll probably do a sequel at some point and include them both.
They don't make comedy like the great rising damp.
@@brimcilroy9002 They certainly don't, Bri !! Leonard Rossiter and Richard Beckinsale...both wonderful comedic actors.
Geeze Paula is still looking great.
Joanna, be still my school boy heart
Ditto Sally James 😊
That was awesome as always, but it does make me feel old🤣👍
Nice bit of nostalgia, some have aged very well.
Fantastic video Stu. I remember almost all of these. So happy they are all still with us too :-)
How lucky we have all been to have experienced these fantastic artists in their prime.
I also got a few surprises seeing where they were born too.
Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it! Many thanks for watching.
Makes me think like a kid while feeling old at the same time.
And me.
@@heatherkeegan689 Glad I'm not the only one lol
Brilliant. Look forward to many more. 👍
Many thanks!
Thanks for this trip down memory lane. Lovely to see so many of my childhood staple tv characters still going strong. Great to see Sally James is still as gorgeous as ever too.
Glad you enjoyed it. Many thanks.
Great video! Thanks for pronouncing Peter Purves' name correctly, something a Doctor Who channel I watch didn't manage to do! 🤦I suppose that's what happens when you say you're a Whovian but only watch New Who. 🙄
Tom Baker has to be my favourite from this list. He's a lovely man. At my first convention in 1996 I was right at the back of the queue to meet him. When I got to the door I was literally the last one left and was told to leave. From the back of the hall I heard, "Is that the last one? Let her in man!". The great man himself! I was so nervous meeting him, but he was so kind, I'll never forget that. I've met him a few times over the years at different DW events and he's always been fantastic, absolute gentleman.
A true old-school gentleman.
What a great channel. Great memories of my childhood. To the point no faffing around. Well done. From Tasmania.
That's great to hear! Many thanks.
Just wonderful, thank you.
Wow that was brilliant I cant get over how amazing they all look cheers from xpat Scot in New Zealand 👌👌
Many thanks!
Johnny Ball, Christopher Lillicrap, Bob Carolgees & Spit The Dog, Jeremy Irons, to name a few
Perhaps they could be another episode?
All great for their era.thanks for the vid.thought some had passed away.nice to c their still hear
Nerys Hughes, now we're talking!! 😍
Fantastic. Just finished watching it - talk about a trip down memory lane. Thanks Stu😀
Many thanks as always for watching!
Thank you stu for another great trip down memory lane, I totally forgot about stanley baxter & Derek Griffiths but everyone in the video is a legend 😊😊
My pleasure as always. Many thanks for watching.
What a brilliant video,.so Informative and bringing back so many memories..thank you for all your time and effort I this.
Glad you enjoyed it. Many thanks!
How you can miss 30+ episodes of Sapphire and Steel for Joanna Lumley intrigues me. One of the best sci fi series outside Blakes7 and Dr Who also starring the recently deceased David McCallum
Sapphire and Steel.Blake's7.Dr.Who...ALL Classic Brit Sci-Fi.Have them all,Love them all!👍
I know The Curse of Fatal Death isn’t canon, but she’ll always be the first female Doctor to me.
David didn't become an American til '99, so why was he not knighted? He was also in "Trainer". I miss seeing the old episodes of "All Creatures Great and Small" and "Desmonds". Dominic Keating also played Lt. Malcolm Reed on "Enterprise".
I LOVED Sapphire and Steel.
Simon Williams also appeared in the pilot episode of The Inspector Alleyn Mysteries, but had already signed up to do something else, so the role went to Patrick Malahide
Brilliant as ever... you have put a lot of effort into this and if you had a channel on TV, I would watch it regularly 🍺
That's great to hear! Many thanks.
After sleeping on it, I've just subscribed, because your work is excellent APART FROM the added smudges to the foreheads of much-loved TV stars of our youth.
Watched a few of videos with my girl-next-door wife, met at our council estate comprehensive school when she got back from work here in the south of France. Fine nostalgia. +1
Many thanks.
