Genshin Impact, a game you thought that was a simple gacha, with story missions, people to meet, places to explore... But after Inazuma, it all took a different turn and went for something way deeper and touching, when stepping on this island, I had to stop and listen to this OST. There's no one but you and Paimon, no NPCs wandering, the thick fog hides the sun, this place truly is something.
some of the quests in Liyue were pretty dark and tragic, which kinda foreshadowed this and subsequent tragic quests to come.. I'm looking forward to seeing how twisted Mihoyo can be in creating more of such questlines. Meanwhile, this ost is probably my favorite from Inazuma
I'm wondering how the future quests will be. I liked Mond's light and bright tone, but darker and sadder stories, like Venti's, Qiqi's or Ruu's to name a few, would really add a unique tone to the game.

When the game plays me this OST while exploring, I prefer to stop where I was and watch the scenery, it really is the saddest background song in the whole game, and it matches the island quite well. Adding that it was the first song the game played for me upon entering the island, everything is just too sad and depressing on Tsurumi Island, and the ost only helps to highlight it. My english is very bad, sorry :/
U mean background music? A song is actually music but with a person singing the lyrics and music is just some pieces with no lyrics but meh, not everyone’s first language is English so ye- just pointing out so you don’t mess up next time, my first language is actually Chinese lol-
I absolutely loved the Tsurumi Island update, the soundtrack, the story, the cultural references to the Ainu... so miHoYo decided to reward me with a Staff of Homa on 12 pity for my guaranteed Hu Tao xD
i will not hesitate to spend hours or days even weeks trying to learn this on the piano, this is my favourite Tsurumi Island soundtrack and i just had to stop and listen everytime i hear it i can think of a whole story based on just this soundtrack it is that powerful
omg yes its my favorite too! Everytime I was on Tsurumi Island I would wait for the soundtrack to be over before going back into combat. after completing the island I had to look up the ost and now I have it on repeat almost daily. I would love to be able to play this on my guitar. :D
I like how this song basically tells Ruu's story and Tsurumi island's story. There are sad, depressing, and lonely sounding parts, but there are also some hopeful parts, which fits right in with Ruu's hope to see Kapatcir and sing again, but the violent destruction of the island after reliving the ritual who knows how many times, over and over again, always lingers and is ever-present when you explore the island. This is probably the best quest in the entire Genshin Impact, at least for me. I loved every part of it, and discovering how everything went wrong was very interesting. Not to mention Ruu's beautiful song at the end...
This theme as well as the overall atmosphere of the island has cemented tsurumi as one of my favorite places in genshin. It's gorgeous to me. Melancholic, haunting, longing. It feels like a sad story to be told. Good soup
The ghosts of the past....they always linger where they were at the beginning. What hopes did they have? What dreams were they hoping to achieve? What journey were they preparing for? Prehaps that is something only they know the answer to. It will forever remain a mystery to the living.
When i first got to the island i was already thinking to myself, "why does this island feel so depressing?" Then this theme played and I was pretty much expecting a depressing story and definitely got it ;-;
The feeling I get when I'm walking through the fog with it being just me and Paimon, and this theme plays and I see a pack of rifthounds appear around me, including a "mature" Rifthound that looms just visible enough within the fog to see it's face And when you realize the island and Ruu have been stranded there for centuries stuck in a cycle until it was finally broken
One of the reasons I wander around Tsurumi Island... Just listening to this in the background makes the experience exploring that much more enjoyable. You really get a feel that something tragic happened here

(Alternate story of Tsurumi Island) Inazuma, the land of Eternity, the birthplace of Electro, was a land of many not so different from ours. Like its neighboring countries, its people flourish the beauty of their homeland created by their beloved Archon and the culture as diverse and vast as it always has been. That is, however, when the Great Archon War ensued, forcing the Electro Archon and her future successor to take arms and defend against the threat that now endangers their land as well as their people. Many years pass as the now deceased Archon left this plain and passed on the mantle of Archon and the title of Shogun to her younger sister, Ei. With this responsibility now passed on, it is up to the Shogun, Raiden Ei to lead her people forward to Eternity and protect this land from foreign invaders. But will the current Shogun and Archon be able to accomplish what the former hadn’t or will the land of Eternity become one of Eternal Darkness? As the years have passed, the raiden shogun, Ei, continued the work that was left by the former shogun. From forming landscapes to spreading ideals, knowledge and beliefs, but like many philosophies passed on from deity to mankind, there must also be those that seek to rewrite, to destroy….and to corrupt the light dwindling in the darkness. One such deity, creating by Ei, was given such a role, but not quite one that was given to many before them. This deity had no name, no purpose, and no direction in life, it was given the form of a majestic bird as large as a mountain as well as the ability of flight and control over the storms of Inazuma. Though it had no meaning in its life after its creation, Ei had felt there was something missing from this bird, but she couldn’t quite figure it out. As to break the confusion and tension from the atmosphere, Ei had stood over the petite deity, so as to assert dominance, gazed directly into its eyes with a piercing and yet composed look and asked, “What is the meaning of Eternity?”. The small bird, taken aback by the question, simply answered in a monotone voice, “I do not know, Great Ruler. I have not lived long enough to know the meaning, let alone the purpose of Eternity, but if that is what my purpose is in my creation, I will fulfill that duty until the day I die.” The small deity bowed in an elegant, and yet professional posture to the raiden shogun, showing respect to its creator. The shogun merely sighed and said to the little creature, “Then You must go and find that meaning elsewhere. I cannot provide you with the answer to my question nor can I tell you how you should live the remainder of your days. However, you must heed my warning: should a day must come where you tarnish the very land I govern and protect, I will personally dispose of you with my own hands.” The small bird, which would later be called the Thunderbird, nodded in agreement and said to the shogun, “As you wish, Great Ruler. Should that day come, I will not resist my punishment” and flew away from the sanctum of the Electro Archon. As the Thunderbird departed, the raiden shogun sat on her throne, overlooking the city of Inazuma and felt the same feeling when speaking to the deity. Agitated by this intrusion, the Thunderbird began to swoop down on the boy, ready to strike at him, when she stopped on her tracks by what the boy had done. The boy was looking around, almost as if to avoid being spotted, and began to sing. A voice so angelic, so kind, so gentle and soothing that even the Archons can’t describe, it brought ease and comfort to the Thunderbird. As the boy had finished singing, the Thunderbird gently landed near the boy, catching him by surprise and asked the boy, “You, tiny human, what…do you call what you have done just now?” The boy in mere awe and amazement looked at the bird that was ten times bigger than any human and responded with a smile on his face, “Oh, that was my singing, did you like it?” To which the Thunderbird replied, “Singing? I have never heard of such a thing before, but yes, it was quite beautiful, soothing, in fact.” The boy blushed very brightly from the compliment it received by the Thunderbird while saying, “Ehehe, Ah thank you, your the first person that’s ever said such a nice thing!” The Thunderbird had started to do something that she had never done or felt before: she started to smile and feel happy while saying to the boy, “A person? But I am not a human. I have wings and can call upon thunder.” To which the boy responded, “But you can talk just like me, right? I think that makes you more than enough human like me hahaha.” The Thunderbird says with a chuckle, “I guess that does make me a little bit human.” Both of them laugh in response to their answers. “My name is Ruu, what’s your name?” Said the boy. “Name? I do not have one, I was never given one since my very creation.” Said the Thunderbird, when Ruu suggested, “Then why don’t I give you one?” Startled by the suggestion from Ruu, the Thunderbird questioned, “You? Give me a name? Then what do you have in mind?” Ruu exclaimed with cheers and hurrah, “How about Kanna Kapatcir?” “Kanna Kapatcir? A strange, yet fitting name. Then so my name shall be.” Said the Thunderbird. Ruu then replied to his newly named friend, “Then it’s settled. It’s very nice to meet you, Kapatcir” while holding out his hand to her. “To you as well, Ruu the tiny human.” Also extending one of her wings out to Ruu, in which they both exchange their vow of friendship. Though, these two beings of different worlds met for the first time, to them it felt like an Eternity.
Like friends of old, Ruu and Kapatcir rendezvoused in their usual meeting spot, getting to know each other more, laughing together, reminiscing about their lives and so on. As they were conversing throughout the duration of the day, Ruu suddenly began to grow silent, with his head staring at the ground. Kapatcir noticed this reaction and asked the boy, “Is there something troubling you, Ruu?”. Ruu looked up at Kapatcir as if caught by surprise and answered with sadness and concern in his voice, “Oh, its nothing, well…the people in my village are getting desperate that their god isn’t answering their prayers, so they’re thinking of making another sacrifice…” as a tear ran down his cheek. Kapatcir hugged the boy comforting him and wiping the tear away from his cheek. “My poor child, please do not concern yourself with such trifling matters. As long as I am here with you, sadness and discomfort shall never weigh your heart.” Kapatcir replied with a gentle and soothing smile on her face. This brought Ruu at ease and comfort, bringing nothing but a smile to his face. But this smile hid something far more painful that even he couldn’t tell to his best friend. Ruu then sat up and spoke to Kapatcir, “Well, I wish that I could stay here and talk with you a little longer, but I gotta head back now. I don’t want the people to worry about where I am.” Kapatcir then responded, “Very well then, Ruu, I will be here tomorrow awaiting your arrival and do be careful on your way down.” To which Ruu replied lastly, “I will and I promise that I’m gonna sing to you again…” This would be there last farewell.
The following day, Kapatcir had awoken from her slumber, stretching her wings as far and wide as the Yujing Terrace. Though Kapatcir had nothing else to do other than wait for Ruu to arrive, she began to remember her time arriving at Tsurumi Island, meeting the villagers, meeting Ruu for the first time, talking to him and getting to know him, brought nostalgia and happiness to Kapatcir. As she was reminiscing, Kapatcir had noticed that Ruu had not arrived as he said he would. Thinking that maybe Ruu was busy with something or helping his people, Kapatcir had merely just waited for his return. Five minutes, ten minutes, thirty minutes, four hours and no sign of Ruu. Kapatcir now had begun to grow extremely worried about why Ruu still hadn’t shown up and then she thought back to their previous conversation. Nothing seemed amiss from their time together until Ruu mentioned his people perfoming a human sacrifice. Not long after, upon realizing this, Kapatcir stood up flew from the mountain, with fear and worry, in search of Ruu. Many thoughts began to flow from Kapatcir’s head, “Where are you, Ruu?!Why haven’t you shown up?! Have you grown tired of me?! Please be safe!! I hope I’m not too late!!!”. As she frantically searched throughout the island, she finally found the ceremony where the sacrifice was to take place. Trusting her instincts, Kapatcir flew down towards the ceremony standing atop a stone monument.
As she was looking aimlessly among the crowd for Ruu, the people looked at Kapatcir in amazement and joy, welcoming the great guardian overlooking their home. Kapatcir completely ignored their gazes and finally found Ruu, but what she had feared had come true. Ruu, who had said that he would meet Kapatcir and promised he would sing to her was found, laying on his back, on a stone slab or alter of some sort, with a small dagger drenched in blood laying next to him. A large and deep wound was found on his chest, signifying his cause of death and one of the islanders had held and offered a cup of red liquid to Kapatcir saying, “Oh Great Thunderbird, you have come at last as the Great Heavens foretold!!! We bring you this chalice and the contents inside it as gift to you for always blessing us with your greatness!!!” Completely oblivious to what they had done, Kapatcir asked the islander holding the cup, with a cold and malice tone, “Are you responsible for what took place here?” The islander holding the cup said hesitantly, “W-Why y-yes, Great One. We all decided that the boy would be the next sacrifice, all so that we may see you once again.” He then kowtowed, along with the rest of the islanders. Kapatcir then said lastly to the islanders as a monstrous thundercloud began to envelop, “Then die…!!!”
when i teleported to tsurumi today and heard this (hadnt heard it before) my heart literally dropped and i had to stay there for about ten seconds listening to this. didn't dare move my characters. it felt like a magical spell that i shouldn't break
When I have a daily quest or I want to explore a little Tsurumi, and I start hearing this OST in the background.. I just stop moving, I stand still, or walk without making too much noise, listening to this mesmerizing theme..
Thank you for this! Honestly when I first hear this song in game it kinda give me a strange soothing feeling somehow but when I finish the whole Tsurumi island quest this song feel so sad and lonely combine with a little spooky about what happened in this island in the past
This kinda reminds me of something from honkai, maybe that’s why I got attached to it immediately…I stop dead in my tracks every time I hear it and just listen to it
i will never be able to listen to this track, or any other track of the island’s ost, without crying-not now, that i’ve cleared the mission, lifted the fog and read the story of the island and the thundering fury’s artifact set lore.
You've got far to the quest itself? Ready or not, this song would hit harder the more you put the pieces together about what truly happened on that island. Paimon actually turned her mother's hen mode doesn't elevate my plummeting mood proving the assumption I had on this village was right.

The first time I set foot on this island, the moment 0:05 played, I thought it was the "Kamado Tanjirou no Uta" song from "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba"
All the Genshin OSTs are amazing and sound especially amazing, but *_this_* one. This one always catches my attention and I always stop to just listen to this OST. For me, this is the best one.
This island quickly piqued my interest on day 2 when it all came back. I realized this is where all the fun and intriguing game and world design for inazuma went. The whole region has felt like a slog, but not this place.

I’d like to believe this theme is described as the Thunderbird’s sorrow for losing her only friend, Ruu. I can imagine this theme playing while she flew away after annihilating the people on the island, the tears ran down her eyes as she was reminded of the innocent boy.

As the Thunderbird departed, the raiden shogun sat on her throne, overlooking the city of Inazuma and felt the same feeling when speaking to the deity. It was a similar feeling the deity had that the shogun didn’t: a feeling of longing, but for what? For who? She knew that whatever she was feeling that day when speaking to bird would leave an impact on the very lives it would come across.
A few months later, on a certain island inhabited by a small group people, lived a certain bird that was worshipped by the people as the Thunderbird. The Thunderbird had no interest in the small humans as it was looking for a purpose in its life. Nesting away in a mountain not easily accessible by human means in the same island, the Thunderbird hunched over near a tree that was growing in the center of said mountain; glooming over what its purpose it was created for, why it was created as well as the question of what Eternity was to her. As she was thinking, a small boy came in the mountain, catching the Thunderbird off guard, breaking her concentration. Agitated by this intrusion, the Thunderbird began to swoop down on the boy, ready to strike at him, when she stopped on her tracks by what the boy had done. The boy was looking around, almost as if to avoid being spotted, and began to sing. A voice so angelic, so kind, so gentle and soothing that even the Archons can’t describe, it brought ease and comfort to the Thunderbird. As the boy had finished singing, the Thunderbird gently landed near the boy, catching him by surprise and asked the boy, “You, tiny human, what…do you call what you have done just now?” The boy in mere awe and amazement looked at the bird that was ten times bigger than any human and responded with a smile on his face, “Oh, that was my singing, did you like it?” To which the Thunderbird replied, “Singing? I have never heard of such a thing before, but yes, it was quite beautiful, soothing, in fact.” The boy blushed very brightly from the compliment it received by the Thunderbird while saying, “Ehehe, Ah thank you, your the first person that’s ever said such a nice thing!” The Thunderbird had started to do something that she had never done or felt before: she started to smile and feel happy while saying to the boy, “A person? But I am not a human. I have wings and can call upon thunder.” To which the boy responded, “But you can talk just like me, right? I think that makes you more than enough human like me hahaha.” The Thunderbird says with a chuckle, “I guess that does make me a little bit human.” Both of them laugh in response to their answers. “My name is Ruu, what’s your name?” Said the boy. “Name? I do not have one, I was never given one since my very creation.” Said the Thunderbird, when Ruu suggested, “Then why don’t I give you one?” Startled by the suggestion from Ruu, the Thunderbird questioned, “You? Give me a name? Then what do you have in mind?” Ruu exclaimed with cheers and hurrah, “How about Kanna Kapatcir?” “Kanna Kapatcir? A strange, yet fitting name. Then so my name shall be.” Said the Thunderbird. Ruu then replied to his newly named friend, “Then it’s settled. It’s very nice to meet you, Kapatcir” while holding out his hand to her. “To you as well, Ruu the tiny human.” Also extending one of her wings out to Ruu, in which they both exchange their vow of friendship. Though, these two beings of different worlds met for the first time, to them it felt like an Eternity.

Like friends of old, Ruu and Kapatcir rendezvoused in their usual meeting spot, getting to know each other more, laughing together, reminiscing about their lives and so on. As they were conversing throughout the duration of the day, Ruu suddenly began to grow silent, with his head staring at the ground.
Kapatcir noticed this reaction and asked the boy, “Is there something troubling you, Ruu?”. Ruu looked up at Kapatcir as if caught by surprise and answered with sadness and concern in his voice, “Oh, its nothing, well…the people in my village are getting desperate that their god isn’t answering their prayers, so they’re thinking of making another sacrifice…”
as a tear ran down his cheek. Kapatcir hugged the boy comforting him and wiping the tear away from his cheek. “My poor child, please do not concern yourself with such trifling matters. As long as I am here with you, sadness and discomfort shall never weigh your heart.” Kapatcir replied with a gentle and soothing smile on her face. This brought Ruu at ease and comfort, bringing nothing but a smile to his face. But this smile hid something far more painful that even he couldn’t tell to his best friend. Ruu then sat up and spoke to Kapatcir, “Well, I wish that I could stay here and talk with you a little longer, but I gotta head back now. I don’t want the people to worry about where I am.” Kapatcir then responded, “Very well then, Ruu, I will be here tomorrow awaiting your arrival and do be careful on your way down.” To which Ruu replied lastly, “I will and I promise that I’m gonna sing to you again…” This would be there last farewell.
The following day, Kapatcir had awoken from her slumber, stretching her wings as far and wide as the Yujing Terrace. Though Kapatcir had nothing else to do other than wait for Ruu to arrive, she began to remember her time arriving at Tsurumi Island, meeting the villagers, meeting Ruu for the first time, talking to him and getting to know him, brought nostalgia and happiness to Kapatcir. As she was reminiscing, Kapatcir had noticed that Ruu had not arrived as he said he would. Thinking that maybe Ruu was busy with something or helping his people, Kapatcir had merely just waited for his return. Five minutes, ten minutes, thirty minutes, four hours and no sign of Ruu. Kapatcir now had begun to grow extremely worried about why Ruu still hadn’t shown up and then she thought back to their previous conversation. Nothing seemed amiss from their time together until Ruu mentioned his people perfoming a human sacrifice. Not long after, upon realizing this, Kapatcir stood up
flew from the mountain, with fear and worry, in search of Ruu. Many thoughts began to flow from Kapatcir’s head, “Where are you, Ruu?!Why haven’t you shown up?! Have you grown tired of me?! Please be safe!! I hope I’m not too late!!!”. As she frantically searched throughout the island, she finally found the ceremony where the sacrifice was to take place. Trusting her instincts, Kapatcir flew down towards the ceremony standing atop a stone monument.
As she was looking aimlessly among the crowd for Ruu, the people looked at Kapatcir in amazement and joy, welcoming the great guardian overlooking their home. Kapatcir completely ignored their gazes and finally found Ruu, but what she had feared had come true. Ruu, who had said that he would meet Kapatcir and promised he would sing to her was found, laying on his back, on a stone slab or alter of some sort, with a small dagger drenched in blood laying next to him. A large and deep wound was found on his chest, signifying his cause of death and one of the islanders had held and offered a cup of red liquid to Kapatcir saying, “Oh Great Thunderbird, you have come at last as the Great Heavens foretold!!! We bring you this chalice and the contents inside it as gift to you for always blessing us with your greatness!!!” Completely oblivious to what they had done, Kapatcir asked the islander holding the cup, with a cold and malice tone, “Are you responsible for what took place here?” The islander holding the cup said hesitantly, “W-Why y-yes, Great One. We all decided that the boy would be the next sacrifice, all so that we may see you once again.” He then kowtowed, along with the rest of the islanders. Kapatcir then said lastly to the islanders as a monstrous thundercloud began to envelop, “Then die…!!!”
