@Aaron Hiebert here I am on this video a year later and man, you're playing is so fucking tasty man! Can I ask, was there a specific overdrive pedal plugged in between that gorgeous guitar and amp here?
O man, what a dream combination. And as much as I would love to own that black guard Telecaster (who wouldn't?), there's no way that I could ever afford it. But that Benson amp, that one's got my brain going. You all know what I mean, right? The feeling of a strangely pleasant type of restlessness. The idea that this is something you need, but also something you could actually get if... and then... and when I sell this old... I might.... and then maybe within 4 or 5 more months of saving and not spending any money on nonsensical things...., because I MUST HAVE THAT AMP!!! You know the feeling. I know you know the feeling. 😎
@@joshbabbitt9243 : And then you find out that the Benson is practacally unobtainable anyway. Especially when you live in the Netherlands, Europe. But I’m pretty sure you still know exactly what I was talking about. 😂
This channel is so amazing! I love the new intro, the quality of the videos, and I really enjoy the new video series of you guys traveling around doing guitar safari. Keep up the awesome content! :)
I bought a San Dimas Charvel from him when I was in High School. (1985) He was working at Seattle Music on 1st & Seneca. Just a few blocks from where his shop is now.

Aaron, I normally don't miss ur stuff here....and late as I am to this, wow. I've been oddly thinning my Strats down in the last year as I've suddenly been taken by Telecasters (I was able to purchase a lefty Ron Thorn Masterbuilt and it's been my gateway tele). Something about their tone...and how inspired I am when playing one....anyway, this is (as always) inspiring and such a great tone! Thx!
Theres something with the headstock on those old teles. The fist time i noticed it was on Joe Strummers black , worn tele in the 70:s. They seem to be more straight, somewhat skinnier and smaller. I might be wrong - but to me this IS the telelook. You can clearly see at 4.07 ca , in the video. Same thing with the f-holes in the 335:s the grew bigger and bulkier with time didnt they?
I know these amps are supposed to be amazing and wow us all, and they are pretty damn good, but with my modern blues Jr amp and a boss blues driver pedal and a $300 squire tele I think I can get to 90 percent of this tone. The rest is in the hands. And you can’t buy hands. Peace.
@@jambajoby32 I’m sure that’s true. I didn’t say I could get there with the $1300 worth of gear that I mentioned, I said I think I could get 90 percent of the way there. I am a working man with a mortgage and kids, I can’t pay 50k for amazing vintage guitars and boutique amps, so does that mean I shouldn’t try?
You're right, at the end of the day most tube amp circuits are very similar and the reason why people keep saying these kind of amps are so amazing and "dimensional" is because of course they have to justify their purchases somehow.
This was just the guitar plugged into the amp. No pedals. We had the amp on 10! Wasn't too crazy loud but definitely sounded great in the room! Cheers!
As the Benson gets turned up after about a third of the way it doesn’t get louder, it just has more gain. They probably switched it to the British setting.
@@gunsmithmusic Thanks! I think I've figured out the main chords and melody but the articulation is a different story, I hear a lot of double stops and various other blues tricks.
a one owner tele.. dont rip the neck off! destroy a 68 year bond and mojo? we know its a 51 or 2 already just by features. maybe just lift the pickguard and control plate? or perhaps leave it to the buyer if he wishes to pull the neck or not?
Personally you should have played it through Fender amplifiers tweed Princeton reverb Deluxe reverb . I wasn't sure if he was demoing the amp or guitar. You didn't chase for a year trying to get the amp. You could have done a better job imo
With these Vintage Guitars are we buying Craftsmanship, are we buying Nostalgia, are we buying the History of the Electric Guitar, are we buying the Sound we seem to be unable to produce today 🤔 Maybe, just maybe with the right piece of 1950’ Wood, with the same Electric Components, with the same Tools & Construction techniques it might just be possible to recreate this ‘magical sound’ this ‘ Holy Grail’ people are willing to pay huge sums of money for 🤔
Sounds great! Some rich guy is going to have great tone. I hope he can play. lol
Nothing more satisfying than a vintage gem in the hands of that young man. He just brings out the best of those guitars. That amp is amazing too.
Thank you!!! Appreciate that!! :) Cheers!!
@@aaronhiebert4745 I do appreciate your playing style. You should really make few teaching videos :) the first song is beyond amazing!

Possibly the most badass guitar I've seen yet. Up there with Danish Pete`s Purple Tele and Mike McCready`s Strat.

Best sounding Tele I’ve ever heard
I jumped on this so quick.....I'm crazy about them benson amps too....classy combination right there front n center
Perfect demo 👍
I don't even play and I am hooked. Love it all
Just perfect
Wow on the guitar for sure!! But the Benson Monarch !!!
Damn! Great tones and playing on this one.
Heard this amp on another channel and both times it sounds exactly like I am searching for. Great review as always 👌🏻
That tele is cool and all, but that amp sounds incredible! What an awesome tone
I love Jay how cool is he ... the whole vibe, hair, glasses- keep it up guys ps. nice guitars, and wow that Benson...
He's a great guy! I was fortunate to live in Seattle for a while, and become pals with Jay. He's got a huge heart. The real deal.

What a combo!
The best guitar review ever i seen on youtube

How much these guitars cost normally? Thx
Nice Tweed character to that amp too!

Having to pick up that gem, play it then put it down and walk away would really hurt. What a fantastic guitar. Thanks for a great video 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Holy tone 😳
This guy can really make the guitar sing!!!!
sounds good
I want one of these amps! Getting one in the UK is unfortunately near impossible.

I was just barely five years old when this guitar was created.
And I was -50
Great noises from a great player!
Amp soudns sort of supro/valco like, like a tighter brownface with a little bit of UK eq
3:47 sounds a bit like Parni Valjak - Pusti Nek Traje
Nice overdriven tone. Cool guitar and playing
Now that is some fine tasty playing!
How loud did you need to crank the Benson to get that overdrive?
🤘
Would have been nice to hear some clean tone. Was that all amp overdrive?
Totally a bad review imo
Can I come by and try it out?
The amp has 6L6's but only 15 watts? I prolly just didn't hear it right...
I have that exact amp a couple of custom shop telecasters. How did you get that sound? Pedals? Attenuator? Deafening loud?
Is that not what they normally sounds like?
I was wondering too. Maybe a tube screamer?

Drool!
Someone needs to get Mike Campbell a Benson amp
you guys do any country demos with that?
I bet that thing just screams.
Excellent presentation! Could somebody tell me what’s the name of a tune starting at 3:48 or if it’s just improvised what are the chords?
I think it is based on a song called strawberry wine

Isn't it Tennessee Whiskey?
It's Tennessee Whiskey. :)
My first taste of love, oh bittersweet
Alabama Moonshine
Are the screws holding the plate with volume/tone/selector original?
Very important, otherwise you' ll loose $ 5k.😉
Damn, will you listen to that thing?!
How does a guitar that "loved" for so many years only have the nut replaced in 69 years ?
Just curious 🤔
My concern as well ..if your playing enough to wear down a nut , I would assume the frets would be shot as well.
@@miked6497 20 years of normal playing warrant at least a partial re-fret. This Tele's had at least that.
And the dear children just smelled a good profit after dad was in his grave.
What song is that your playing?
If you're referring to the first song it's 'Down In The Valley'. It's an old 19th century folk song.
Tennessee Whiskey
Some Tennessee Whiskey and a bit of Last Dance with Mary Jane :)
“The screwed in the butt Tele”…please tell me that’s not what it’s called now!! 😉🤣🤣
How much these guitars cost?
Watch til the end. It's on the chalkboard.
Nowadays 30k if you find a private seller. They made around 6000 black guards so quite a few out there
it must be a very late ‘52 to be all original & have phillips head screws??
Yes, very late 1952. Jay states in the video what the neck and body dates are.
Aaron is just amazing. What is that Monarch turned up to?
I’d guess somewhere around 6 or 7.
Aaron said in a reply above that it was dimed. No pedals. Just Guitar and amp.
