I'm a short rider who sometimes has trouble backing my bike up. I've been simply getting off and backing it up, but the compressing of the front fork technique is a revelation to me. Thanks for making the video! I' gonna have to give it a go when i'm backing up.
I'm 140 lbs and I ride a 850 lbs road glide... The reason I don't get off and push it is because if it starts to tip the other way... There is no stopping it for me haha
I dropped my vulcan 1500 yesterday trying to move my bike by myself, Im still learning and haven't even rode yet, and now Im looking for every tip possible before i give my boyfriend or parents a heart attack and/or seriously hurt myself
Holy crap, that shock compression/brake trick is so obvious. I actually feel stupid for not thinking of it myself. I wish I would have seen this video 4 years ago when you released it. 👍👍
+Escape Behind Bars Thanks! I wish I could say it was my invention, but it wasn't lol. I saw a video about it a couple years ago. I don't remember who posted it, but it was some guy with a sport bike in his driveway.
hey, guy, you know what? I apologize, I have a height problem, too. I'm a little over 5 feet tall. 6'4", actually, so I don't actually fit on bikes either. your video is spot on, accurate, and informing. you're doing a good thing, and I didn't mean to rank on you. I subscribed just to see what you got next. I hope there's no hard feelings. I've actually implicated your techniques and found them to be accurate. be safe, ride careful, and keep up the good work. Peace
Hi Faune, Thanks for the info. I just recently purchased a Busa and was overwhelmed by the size and could not back it up very well. After watching your video, I feel better about backing up. Thanks!!!
Fastlane Faune Yeah... I didn't realize how big until I rode it for awhile. Now I'm hooked.... so I've gotta deal with the size. Bigger is always better, right? LOL
As the saying goes, "There's no replacement for displacement!" My bike has 1700cc displacement. Honestly though, I'd also like to have a small bike. Not to replace my bike, but just to have one. Seems fun to just ride around town on a smaller motorcycle. Very light and nimble, and you can run it all the way to redline without going at felony speeds.
Fastlane Faune LOL I agree about having the smaller bike too. I've considered that and hopefully will have one someday as well. Thanks again for the video... it does help a lot.
What about backing the bike up when there is another vehicle inside the garage and you don’t have the room the maneuver?? What about backing down a small inclined driveway onto the street?
question. so I got off my bike to back it up. but it was down hill and it starting rolling to fast so I pressed the break and had to inch it down. is there a better way to back up on a down ward slop?
this video is extremely helpful!! thank you so much for posting and thank you for being a short rider lol encourages me to continue my riding legacy lol.
That last tip does work, but(!), for me it's much easier to hold the balance of the bike when half-sitting on it and pushing it back with my butt. When I hold it like you do, without a perfectly flat ground, it's scary to me.
Great video brother I’m familiar with both of these techniques but had to compliment on your demonstration and explanation. I’m 5’ 6” and just bought a 2020 Road Glide Special. Not looking forward to backing up the thing in tight and sloped areas
dude! I was having trouble for quite a few months. I moved to another house and the floor has an angle towards the part where it has a small roof. And every morning I had to pull it backwards and up. But I just tried this method and it was easy AF!
THANKS!!! Its not easy being a short rider, I don't care what people say. I appreciate all the tips. Now I'm going to google how to fix my fairing because I dropped my bike in the driveway while I was muscling it backwards and I dropped it. The whole neighborhood heard me. I feel like the village idiot.
u still kooler than them cause u have a bike to drop LMAO. But if your neighbors ride too, then they understand. Most people have dropped their bike before. Don't feel too bad.
I'm not a new rider, but my softail is 200lbs heavier than my V Star was and even tho I can stand flat footed, my problem is walking it back on hard dirt and hard packed granite gravel. I'll have to try the push down on the forks trick. Either that or I'll have to start wearing cleats.
I didn't show my dad this video but he just got a Road King and said if I want to ride it I am going to have to be able to back it out and push it forward with no problem, all while sitting on the bike. I'm 5'5" and 125lbs. For some reason, even when I asked if I could, he will not let me stand up and push it because he is afraid I am going to lean it over the other side and drop it. So I have been practicing every day sitting on the bike and backing it up. Any suggestions?
What I try to do the most is try parking up hill all the time unless I have no choice, makes is so much easier to get out but these are good tips that I might use. Thanks man.
@@RyanFaune Thank you. I actually just tried it this morning and it's so much easier than backing it out! I scratched up the garage floor though hahaha.
I'm 16 I just turned 16 and for my birthday I got a 50cc automatic Firefox( I didn't know the full name) but I love it as I also have my licence which was also due to my birthday and even though its a slow bike tbh IDC its great its really fun to be out there on the road and I can take it to school😁😁
I'm thinking of buying a Yamaha road star warrior like the looks of the bike . but have concerns that its air cool because I live in phoenix Arizona and can get very hot over 112° . my second option is honda vtx because its water cooled but really like the Yamaha road star warrior.
I've ridden 100 miles one way from where I live to Palm Springs here in California then back. Was over 100 degrees that day. Bike seemed totally fine. I think it could handle but I'm not sure. There's some Warriors out there in Arizona. Idk them personally but I've seen them on the Warrior forum. U can ask them how it does.
For the sport bike one, no. The wheels do not need to turn because the wheels are not in contact with the ground. The bike is balancing on the kickstand.
I never rode a motorcycle I just ride bycicle do you think it's gonna be easy for me to rude cruiser motorcycle the first time?and what kind of bike you can recommend for me as beginner?
The best tip I can give anyone is respect the bike. The bike doesn't care about you. It doesn't care if it hurts you. Always respect the machine. Don't ride outside your limit.
I’m 110, 5’3 and I ride a busa at stock height. so I quite literally cannot get off the bike to push it or else it’s almost guaranteed that it will tip over
***** Ya. It's pretty quiet. The engine is a whopping 1700cc, so it probably needed a big muffler to get it that quiet. It's a Yamaha Roadstar Warrior.
How tall are you sir?. I Plan to have Z800 Kawasaki, but i'm not sure that it 'll fit me. I love naked bike but Ialso like Kawasaki Vulcan S. My hight is 5.5 feet.
+xlHelioslx I am 5' 4"! You can definitely ride those bikes. Will take some getting used to, but you can ride any bike. I have a video a bit older than this one where I talk about short riders! It's called "Tips for Riding a Motorcycle - Short People"
I am not a motorcycle fanatic, so motorcycles can't back up like a car, you need to push with your legs or something, I still don't understand well, any help will be appreciated
I’m 5’5 and have a 2001 Suzuki katana I almost tipped over on my bike earlier today because I was trying to push the bike back on an uneven surface. I can barely touch the ground with my toes I literally had to turn super Saiyan to keep the bike from falling over
Thank you for the great advice. I'm a short guy (5.6) and consider getting a Kawasaki Concourse. I tried riding it, and practically have to tiptoe the bike all the time. Wonder if you have more tips for me. Thanks again!
I will be a short rider and rather look like an idiot pushing my bike backwards than to prove as one when it tips. Pushing it backwards made me chuckle. #Awesome
E L yeah i just get off and push it backwards. I don't reach the ground at all. I don't see why i look like an idiot. I get it in the spot as fast or faster than my friends
If only I could lift the weight of my bike to spin it around in the stand like that 🤔 I can't really bare weight on my right leg, and with my pain had huge amount of trouble trying to use my legs to backup today ended up going forward out of the carpark just lucky it was a option as I wasn't even able to push it. Wow I learned more in 4:55 than I've learned in 99% of TH-cam videos. thanks dude u da man
Great tip with holding front brake to push backwards. I’m 135lbs, 5’3” with a Harley so definitely will try this. Thanks mate
You did an excellent explanation of how the bike rebounds when you back it up by compressing the forks. Great vid!
That first tip is something I've never seen! I always expect to see you the same things with all these videos, thank you for teaching me something!
Dude the kickstand trick is great, you're a life saver!
+martiniturbo935 That seems unsafe though. Putting too much weigh on the kickstand can make it fail. Right??
TheWiseMan nah. It's fine.
I dropped my vulcan 1500 yesterday trying to move my bike by myself, Im still learning and haven't even rode yet, and now Im looking for every tip possible before i give my boyfriend or parents a heart attack and/or seriously hurt myself
Good video... great to see a rider helping noobies rather than being a jerk towards the next generation of riders. Be safe!
Helpful hints for the new guys. Cool. I'm a cruiser guy, but it'd like to try a sport bike one day. Thanks for the vid sir. Be safe.
Thanks for being so supportive of my channel. :)
Holy crap, that shock compression/brake trick is so obvious. I actually feel stupid for not thinking of it myself.
I wish I would have seen this video 4 years ago when you released it. 👍👍
I just dropped my bike when I try to push backwards, your idea is awesome, cheers mate 👍🏻
some great tips there mate, never even thought about compressing the forks to go back never crossed my mind!
+Escape Behind Bars Thanks! I wish I could say it was my invention, but it wasn't lol. I saw a video about it a couple years ago. I don't remember who posted it, but it was some guy with a sport bike in his driveway.
Got my confidence back thanks! I dropped my ninja 650 today while positioning it, Im 5’3”.
howd your legs reach the ground mate
Thanks for posting this video. I'm a short newbie rider (only 5 foot) and parking is still scary for me.
Thank you for watching. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
Thanks for this helpful video. Being a new, short rider I found this to be very useful.
These are great ideas bro.thnx
Sure. Glad I could help.

lol, I'm glad you said it only works for sport bikes. My cruiser would've smashed my tiny, midget body.
I agree why not just make it easy on yourself & walk it, I’d rather do that than ‘look cool’ & struggle for 10 minutes
I always just dismount and push my bike around to where I want it. I might have to try that pivoting on the kickstand thing.
Thank you for your fantastic video. I have a kawasaki vulcan nomad and your tip on the cruiser is very good. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Hi Faune, Thanks for the info. I just recently purchased a Busa and was overwhelmed by the size and could not back it up very well. After watching your video, I feel better about backing up. Thanks!!!

Ok for backing up by forks, what if my bike is in a slope downwards, and I need pull upwards. Will this technique still work?
What about backing the bike up when there is another vehicle inside the garage and you don’t have the room the maneuver?? What about backing down a small inclined driveway onto the street?
That surface is smooth 🤔 that's why you do that easily
question. so I got off my bike to back it up. but it was down hill and it starting rolling to fast so I pressed the break and had to inch it down. is there a better way to back up on a down ward slop?

just earned yourself another subscriber . Your channel has good info for us shorties. I'm around 5'6 so not extremely short but not tall at all.
Thanks. I need to make more videos. I've been gone for a while.
Thank you dude... beeeeeeeeeen needing help with my CBR600RR! Subbed!
Glad I was helpful! If you have any other questions, I'll be do my best to help. :) thanks for watching.
Great tips, isn't the pit stand going to brake from the whole weight?
I'm not a new rider, but my softail is 200lbs heavier than my V Star was and even tho I can stand flat footed, my problem is walking it back on hard dirt and hard packed granite gravel. I'll have to try the push down on the forks trick. Either that or I'll have to start wearing cleats.
My Harley Electra glide is super heavy I can’t even do this I’m thinking the belt is too tight? Cause it doesn’t have a free play
Thanks for your back up tip on a bigger bike will try it soon. A WM
Do you have do the anything else ? My bike is in neutral and it won’t roll backwards? Do I have to start the bike too
You do not have to start the bike. Sorry, this is all I have.
Nice collection of bikes
I’m 5’7 145 lbs and just got my first bike , it’s tough but hopefully these techniques help me out lol
And my acl is torn on my left knee and just had a meniscus repair surgery 2 months ago so that doesn’t help my confidence but I’m still riding somehow

Superb bro.. Iam glad I saw your video today..👌
You look familiar man! Did you go to nightingale middle school back in 2000?
Bro. I was 5 in 2000 LOL. But nah I didn't go to Nightingale.
+Ryan Faune Are you serious?! You were only born in '95?!
+Cody J Miller ya lol. 1995.
You’re the man Faune love the videos
Does the second method works while the bike is in gear or not?
When you are backing up, you have to hold the clutch in or be in neutral.
Thank you saviour!!!! You've made my life easy!!!
What I try to do the most is try parking up hill all the time unless I have no choice, makes is so much easier to get out but these are good tips that I might use. Thanks man.
can the kickstand really support all the weight of the motorcycle like that?
Yes. No problem. Just make sure you lean it the right way so it doesn't fold in on you. That only works for sport bikes tho. Not cruisers.
@@RyanFaune Thank you. I actually just tried it this morning and it's so much easier than backing it out! I scratched up the garage floor though hahaha.
@@MrTeppyboy Glad it is easier for you. Sorry about the floor lol. That has never happened to me.
I wasn't expecting that! Great video.

Awesome and helpful vid my fellow Golden Eagle!
+kyb2005 Thanks! Are you a current student at Cal State LA?
Thanks bro. It helps a lot me as I'm beginner and short
What’s the model of that cruiser?
2007 Yamaha Roadstar Warrior
Do I have to be on neutral for this
For the sport bike one, no.
