How to Back Up a Motorcycle

Just some tips for backing up, especially to help those that can't reach the ground.
Tips for Riding a Motorcycle - Short People
มุมมอง 112K10 ปีที่แล้ว
Just a few tips for riding if you are short. These are things I learned while riding. I'm short.
No bike I know of comes with a warranty against kickstand abuse
Ok for backing up by forks, what if my bike is in a slope downwards, and I need pull upwards. Will this technique still work?
If only I could lift the weight of my bike to spin it around in the stand like that 🤔 I can't really bare weight on my right leg, and with my pain had huge amount of trouble trying to use my legs to backup today ended up going forward out of the carpark just lucky it was a option as I wasn't even able to push it. The was it was was a kinda in hill so I wouldn't be able to use brake and again it's the weight it's a new bike and alot heavier then my old bike.
question. so I got off my bike to back it up. but it was down hill and it starting rolling to fast so I pressed the break and had to inch it down. is there a better way to back up on a down ward slop?
Just get off the bike and back it up
That last tip does work, but(!), for me it's much easier to hold the balance of the bike when half-sitting on it and pushing it back with my butt. When I hold it like you do, without a perfectly flat ground, it's scary to me.
I just had my bike i tried the second method doesent't work i think the first one is more easy lol
The second method requires some timing, and enough force pushed down on the front forks to get proper rebound. Different motorcycles may respond differently to this method.
I agree why not just make it easy on yourself & walk it, I’d rather do that than ‘look cool’ & struggle for 10 minutes
Do you have do the anything else ? My bike is in neutral and it won’t roll backwards? Do I have to start the bike too
You do not have to start the bike. Sorry, this is all I have.
You did an excellent explanation of how the bike rebounds when you back it up by compressing the forks. Great vid!
Fantastic info
How can we back up when engine is not off or you are in some gear?Do i use the same technique, could you make video on this one?i am a short guy
My Harley Electra glide is super heavy I can’t even do this I’m thinking the belt is too tight? Cause it doesn’t have a free play
Great tips, isn't the pit stand going to brake from the whole weight?
Thanks for these tips
Great
Thank you for your fantastic video. I have a kawasaki vulcan nomad and your tip on the cruiser is very good. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
What about backing the bike up when there is another vehicle inside the garage and you don’t have the room the maneuver?? What about backing down a small inclined driveway onto the street?
I’m 5’1” and you are 100% right about everything you said. I could ride almost any bike I want. Scooting my butt to one side when stopping nearly always solves the inseam problem.
Do that with a road glide
I dropped my vulcan 1500 yesterday trying to move my bike by myself, Im still learning and haven't even rode yet, and now Im looking for every tip possible before i give my boyfriend or parents a heart attack and/or seriously hurt myself
Those are some beautiful bikes dude!
Some good info, too bad he died in the first random chimp event of 2015
Is he alive?
I just dropped my bike when I try to push backwards, your idea is awesome, cheers mate 👍🏻
That surface is smooth 🤔 that's why you do that easily
Great tip with holding front brake to push backwards. I’m 135lbs, 5’3” with a Harley so definitely will try this. Thanks mate
You’re the man Faune love the videos
Great , thanks a lot
Hi .. I’m 5ft 2..and 9 st 13 pounds.. I have a few bikes.. I can recommend Honda Cbr 5 and 600..plus a hornet.. pretty low seat height..I just purchased a BMW k100 LT... huge bike.. and ride it for 60 miles.. extremely good bike.. very stable.. but hard work for me..so.. remember.. if I can do it.. so can you.. yes I have experience.. but nothing advanced or special.. and confidence does help.. off course I’ve dropped my bikes.. everyone will..😊☝️.. but.. you won’t do it twice😂👍.. picking the right bike is important.. a sit up and beg riding position.. will be the best option for new riders..you get good vision.. sensible body position.. and a nice reach to the handle bars.. so.. there you have it☺️👍.. safe riding🙏.. and enjoy.
Does the second method works while the bike is in gear or not?
When you are backing up, you have to hold the clutch in or be in neutral.
Thank you broke my side stand
First technique, so cool if you have the muscle! Gonna practise the second one, for sure. All great tips for those they suit, thanks!
Great video brother I’m familiar with both of these techniques but had to compliment on your demonstration and explanation. I’m 5’ 6” and just bought a 2020 Road Glide Special. Not looking forward to backing up the thing in tight and sloped areas
Thats encourage me im 5"7.
Do I have to be on neutral for this
For the sport bike one, no. The wheels do not need to turn because the wheels are not in contact with the ground. The bike is balancing on the kickstand.
Lemmy's lil bro
Thanks for your back up tip on a bigger bike will try it soon. A WM
Being that I'm 5', I'll partly agree with you that we can ride any bike. Exception thought is safety. When the bike has a seat height of 30-33 inches , nah not really safe even if you can get it going. I've owned a Yamaha Roadstar at approx 900 lbs, and I had to modify the stand (among other items)because the bike leaned to far to pick it back up. My best thing I have done to all my bikes is add thickness to the heel and sole of my boots. I've done the one foot down thing and with all the miles that I put on it, again, nah just a pain where I sit. Have a great day. Oh to other short guys/gals plan on spending some extra money to get the bike where its comfortable for you.
Why aren't you uploading anymore? Are you ok?
Good tips!
DUDE!!! THANKS!!! :^)
Thanks for the tip
Thanks this was Helpful 👍
You should do more videos.
Can i ask whats ur inseam? Im 5’6 and have 27 in inseam.
Thank you saviour!!!! You've made my life easy!!!
Great tips
Thank you
That first tip is something I've never seen! I always expect to see you the same things with all these videos, thank you for teaching me something!
What’s the model of that cruiser?
