- ‘The Amazigh language… between the risk of extinction and the hope of victory’ is a video documentary by Mariam Ben Aissa, a Tunisian journalist, who takes us to the south-east of Tunisia, 50 km from the governorate of Gabes, to the village of Tamazret. There lives one of the last large communities still speaking the Amazigh language in Tunisia, a language classified by UNESCO as being in danger of extinction.

« La langue amazighe… entre le risque de disparition et l’espoir de victoire » est un reportage vidéo réalisé par Mariam Ben Aissa, une journaliste tunisienne, qui nous emmène au sud-est de la Tunisie, à 50 km du gouvernorat de Gabes, dans le village de Tamazret où vit l’une des dernières grandes communautés parlant encore la langue amazighe en Tunisie, une langue classée par l’UNESCO comme étant en voie de disparition.

Please! By all means keep alive your local amazigh lenguage! I'm from Canary Islands and our ancient imazighen roots was removed by spanish colonialism. Our Tamazight idiom was forbbiden. Since then, we are a soullees people, even we don't know we are. Is the worst thing that can be happen to a community. Nearby my hometown, Agaraw, there's a little village called Tagast (Teguest) In one ocasión I asked to an old Shepherd of indisputable indigenous origins, whats the name of his village meant. He had no idea: thats is to be dead in live. Fortunally in the last 40 years there's a reborn of the interest by our imazighen roots but it's more difficult to start from scratch.
We are trying to keep our language alive 🤞🤞
in north africa, our amazigh identity was replaced with a fake identity and people now think they are arab
L'Ebreu a été ressucité grace à la volonté POLITIQUE du Pouvoir: les études sociolinguistiques démontrent qu'une langue qui n'a pas le POUVOIR POLITIQUE et EXECUTIF à son bénéfice, risque de disparaître! L'UNESCO réserve une journée internationale pour la langue MATERNELLE pour les préserver!

1) she didn’t say she doesn’t speak Tunisian fluently. She said she doesn’t speak Arabic fluently 2) She speaks the original native Tunisian language fluently, but because she doesn’t speak Arabic (a Middle Eastern language) fluently you’re telling her she can’t speak Tunisian? Imagine invading someones land and telling the natives they don’t speak the native language because they don’t speak your colonizer language that you brought with you from Yemen HAHAHAHAHA😂😂😂

I swear, all colonizers pull this same bs. I thoughr it was weird too that she'd say that she didn't speak Tunisian. I don't speak Arabic nor any Amazigh languages, but I can tell a weird strung translation when I see one, esp. in English.

Unlike the Iberian Peninsula, the North of Africa never had its own Reconquista. The North of Africa belongs to the berber/amazigh people not to the arabs. Sad.
North Africans are still amazigh despite the change of language.

I feel like this is an excuse to use colorism in the country, am sahraoui dark skinned amazigh, and I always receive get back to your south saharan, country, first question which country ??? Second question my grandpa is white blue eyed and my mother is white as snow, why should I receive the racism, and hate all my life, why people say that I don't belong to this country even though it's mentioned in history that ibn tachfin was a dark skinned amazigh, why all this European driven white hate when it comes to the amazigh cause, many "REALLY DARK SKINNED PEOPLE" in Morocco actually would do anything to educate themselves they are "wlad lwe9t" they are intellectually modern and everything, am afraid this hate on arabs is used as a scape goat to hate on us dark skinned people indirectly
It is not the skin but the skul that defines your ethnic group. Amazigh are caucasian
The sad truth is that Arabs occupied north Africa and imposed a system based on Islamic sovereignty, given that Islam is Arabic and thus Berbers are secondary.

Je suis d'origine amazigh du nord du Maroc rif et je comprends la plupart des chose que dit la femme. Malheureusement Tunisie il y a très peu de gens qui parlent amazigh et la langue se perd petit à petit cela est bien triste mais ça se passe partout Algérie maroc aussi la langue arabe le darija prend place et efface petit à petit la langue amazigh
Et les gens ne s'en rendent même pas comptent ils ont l'impression de faire rentrer l'évolution la progression dans leur pays mais il n'en ai rien nous merdont notre richesse culturelle linguistique traditionnelles... et quand je vois l'évolution du nord du Maroc je trouve que ça évolue très négativement malheureusement 😔

Your doc is all misrepresentation, and certainly on purpose. First, the Berbers are not a minority group. All the people in North-Africa are Berbers. Arabs would be a minority IF there remained any of them. Also the Berber language is not in danger of extinction. Its people won't let that happen. On the contrary, it's being developed and taught in schools, and is steadily spreading. You should go to other areas where people are much more educated and civilized and who will tell you that, and not just choose backward and uneducated people whom you ask "directed" questions. But this is expected since the doc is in Arabic, and when a documentary about "minorities" is made by "Arabs" we know how the subject will be treated. There's no use in twisting the facts;the truth can never be removed or ignored. Shame on you!
الاستاذ دوراري قبائلي من بين الذين رفضوا أكذوبة وجود لغة تُسمى "مازغية" مشتركة لأن هذه اللغة المزعومة لا يفهمها جميع البربر و لا تحترم الخصوصيات الجهوية لكل لهجة و لأنها ليست مقعّدة Standardisée بإجماع كل الاطراف البربرية و لا تملك قواعد نحوية و صرفية مشتركة مع كل اللهجات البربرية المتعددة من شاوية و زواوية و شلحية و ….بمعنى هذه اللغة المزعومة تُهدّد و تقتل التنوع و التعدّد اللغوي و ليست مؤهلة للتدريس. المختصون من الأساتذة و الباحثين في اللسانيات يعرفون جيداً أنه من المستحيل تدريس هذه اللغة المزعومة لأن هذه اللغة لم تُصنع بعد من الناحية اللغوية Standardization و لأنها لا تملك أصلاً إجماع و أرضية نحوية و صرفية مشتركة تجمع كل اللهجات البربرية .الصواب و الموضوعية هو تدريس كل لهجة لوحدها من شاوية و ثارڤية و زواوية و …داخل موقعها الجغرافي بخصوصياتها النحوية و الصرفية و الدلالية.
و لكن الكاتب المغربي أحمد عصيد أكد بأن العربية أيضا جمعت لهجاتها و بذلك وجدت المرادفات مثل أسد ليث هزبر... فاللغة العربية أيضاً كانت لهجات قبلية و كان هناك إختلاف فالعربية اليمنية لم تكن نفسها القرشية فهذه اللهجات القبلية جمعت فيقال الغيث هو المطر ، أي جمعت هذه اللهجات و أصبحت مترادفات نفس الشيء تماما في الأمازيغية فهناك جذع مشترك في المعجم و هناك إختلافات و مشكلة اللهجات تسوى علميا في النظام التربوي و الحل هو أن يعرف الطفل اللغة ككل و ليس أن يغلق عليه في لهجة من اللهجات فالعربية لماذا هي لغة غنية جداً بفضل جمع لهجاتها و دمجها في اللغة المعيار
