I've been looking for unconventional advice on making Dark Magician competitive, but every deck list I've encountered is always the same boiler plate Dark Magician deck or Branded Dark Magician. I really appreciate the fresh perspective here. Subscribed.

It's so amazing with your original idea of the Dark Magician!! It's sad that yugioh net decking in our community is becoming so popular that there is no more people fighting for their deck and improving it day by day. Now we just decide to move on and switch deck when the online "competitive" version of the deck we love doesn't work (while waiting for new support ). Love the way you spark fire for Dark Magician fans and deck building aspect of Yugioh community in general 🎉

Nice profile! i have also been using the Runick as engine for DM it feels great but after a while i felt i was playing a Runick deck with some DM cards in it
Thank You! Sometimes that’s just how it works out. However the Runick cards in theory were made to deck your opponent out. In DM Runick, the Runick cards just help you control and maintain the pace of the game while your DM stuff do the clean up. End of the day, if your win con with Runick isn’t a deck out, then Runick is the secondary engine regardless of what it feels like. That’s just the way I look at it… that being said, I’ve had games where I open 5 Runick cards with zero DM stuff and sometimes that’s just how it goes.
Ceiling is definitely high, I gotta rewatch how you use the Eunice cards because I try to pull off these Runick combos and by the time I realize I don’t have a quick play spell to activate fountain and I die 💀
There is a ruling issue here. Runick cards make skip your next battle phase, meaning you cannot conduct your battle phase, not eve enter it, thus making evenly dead when you use your runick cards. Unless is a go 2nd build. Even though nice build!
The thought was (going second) “if you have a BP, you’ll activate evenly first, clear the board for force an interaction, and then proceed with use your Runick plays in MP2”
Tbf if u wanted to play dragoon i would think 18 runicks with 2 albaz, 3 fusion, 3 opening, 3 aluber, 1 DM, and 10 flex/HT slots would prolly be more effective ngl
I don't like runik but your take is sure interesting especially cause you get gas for free basically plus branded is difficult to manage cause eats your hand so is nasty to have recovery really good deck nothing to say

I think at its core, it’s most of what you expect in a pure DM list, Just by looking at it, I think you can cut some cards that don’t really help the deck outside of super specific situations: I.E Magician of Chaos, fusion deployment, swords of concealing light. I think your ratios can also be looked at. Branded fusion to 3 is a must IMO, same with some of your “power cards” like super poly, evenly matched and DRNM. I think you have a foundation, just need to clean up some ratios and cut some dead weight. Keep it up though
@MatchieYGO Makes sense. I left all those floodgates and handtraps due to all the meta decks I have been playing against. I usually switch around with my side deck. I tried 3 branded fusions in my previous build, but I realized that most people know how to out branded fusion, so I left magicalized and super poly for back ups which surprisingly, I use almost everytime I duel.
Thank you! As far as alternatives for this play style, no, Runick is very specific, that being said other good versions of DM are Dragoon Turbo lists, and I think Bystial DM will see a return

im a little confused about the fusion cards. I cant see how either of them are able to summon red eyes dark dragoon at all. It doesn't mention fallen of albaz as material (unless dragon effect monster counts), so no branded, and it doesnt look like fallen allows its summon unless your opponent has dark magician
Branded Fusion sends Dark Magician and Fallen of Albaz from anywhere to grave, makes Lubellion, Lubellion effect to shuffle back Dark Magician and any dragon (usually Fallen of Albaz) to make red eyes dark dragoon. Hope this helps
I explained why after I talked about the extra deck, long story short, Hugin does the exact same thing, and has more synergy with the deck. I did a lot of testing and it didn’t come up enough.
I'm kinda new to the Runick play style, but what I've found in some matches is that there is no protection for Hugin. So yeah it can protect your spells and traps, but it's easy to just get rid of Hugin first and then target the spells and traps, whereas DM the DK protects all your backrow and is in turn protected if you have ES. Obviously it's only worth bringing out if you have ES in play, but my main question is, if Hugin is so much better, what would you suggest for protecting it?
I just wouldn’t play Runick if I’m 100% honest. Once these cards get hit on the next TCG banlist, I think the deck folds. Already working on a new list for the upcoming format
@@MatchieYGO Ive also swapped up recently to your more current build with bystial, though running in slightly different ways seems like it is going to be very fun, considering i ended a board with dragoon, mirrorjade and scism on field on a test duel
We need more DM players like you, lad. Play the deck casually, but do NOT for even an instant, bring it to a serious tournament as a standalone strategy and expect to beat anything other than Blue-Eyes, Red-Eyes or some garbage FTK nonsense. As someone who has a Red-Eyes deck, I do not think Red-Eyes is a good deck, despite all the cards I add and remove... that is why I have other, more powerful decks, like Branded, to take to tournaments and play in shops
Don't quite get why you shuffled albion and dmg when you could've shuffled the albaz and dmg instead. Albion is an extra body and searches in ep when it hits the grave. I also don't get why you made lubellion either, you could've sent any light + albaz into albion then albion banish dmg and albaz to get your dragoon without discarding. And don't say its to shuffle the dmg back for the grind, without eternal soul and circle (yes I am aware they are trash) your grind game is most likely going to be runick, so why not just save the discard?

I think alot of DM players, myself included probably get tired of it bricking up when you dont pull into cards to actually get control of DM. it only works on the field

Nothing wrong with learning techniques from those with experience, this was creative and i definitely think that there is more potential, hopefully people build onto it and not just copy. i cant be the only one here who found this video AFTER building DM runick, shitting the bed at locals and then looking for advice, showed up here.

I’ve incorporated a Gagaga/Xyz engine to work alongside this deck, and a few dark magician cards that spam on the board. It’s amazing.

What packs can you get to get the DM cards and Runik cards? And what pack can you get Dragoon?
I used 3 dm i have like 10 discard cards. If i brick magicians i can Normally just discard it and use it in the graveyard

It really doesn’t matter, pick whichever you prefer, it rarely comes up as it is. I recently swapped it for Artemis in the updated profile
