- Zachary Israel Braff is an American actor, filmmaker, and all-around good energy. He is best known for his role as J.D Scrubs and as himself in the award-winning series, The Sixth Lead (which you can watch here: th-cam.com/users/pl...
Zach comes and takes his shoes off to discuss his childhood, which includes being a relatively successful kid-actor, through film school, making his directorial debut with Garden State (in which he also starred), as well as having animated diarrhea poured onto him by comedy genius, Rick.
The two discuss their personal as well as working relationship. From how Rick got Zach to act along side him in The Sixth Lead, to when Rick brought props in while auditioning for Zach.

Just came here after your recent armchair expert episode. First of of all, you are CRIMINALLY under rated. So fucking funny. Secondly, THIS is the format you were meant to be viewed in. The edditing, animations, cuts etc. It's the perfect way to express this material as seen through the inner machinations of your mind. Simply beautiful.

I'm thinking of doing something similar but with live actors moving backgrounds and never acknowledged with eventually ends the episodes with the actors slowly surrounding me as I take all the credit.

the goal is not to stop thoughts in general. that is resisting the inevitable, the mind is going to produce thoughts. your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to objectively observe them. if you set up a chair on the side of the highway of your mind, the goal is to see how disciplined you can be in staying in your chair as the thoughts (cars) of your mind zoom by. we often either try to chase certain cars (thoughts), stop/resist them, or somehow find ourselves in one along for the ride when we didnt realize it. just notice. without judgement. and go sit back in the chair. the more you do that, the less traffic there is, the less youll be affected by traffic jams etc but there will always be cars.
Great explanation. So many people think that meditating is emptying your mind/stopping thought entirely, and so when they try to "meditate" and inevitably "fail" they conclude "I can't meditate".

What helped my insomnia was putting the TV on at night, but setting a 60 minute timer on it. I would focus on the audio of the TV and not my own thoughts and it'd help me fall asleep. Just don't leave on Ancient Aliens or you'll have weird dreams.

It's insane that he has some A LIST guests and still isn't at 100k subs. This is honestly one of the best shows out there. I've grown and changed and stopped listening to certain pods, but I know I'll be a fan of Rick as long as he provides me with material. Some shows I used to like have 500k+ subs and they're just simply not good anymore.

I really think you should watch the Showtime Documentary W Kumau Bell made called “we need to talk about cosby” there are alot of things you can take from that that parallel the woody allen thing. Long story short. Yeah it sucks that you can’t be a fan anymore. You don’t have to feel guilty for having enjoyed their work before the world knew they were bad people. Ive never seen a woody allen film. But I grew up watching the Cosby show, Fat Albert, and Bills stand up. I can’t stand the man now. But i won’t hide the records I have owned since the 80’s/90’s

Except Braff was doing that in order to avoid being perceived a certain way by the general public. It always feels so incredibly disengenous. Anybody with a certain level of intelligence is able to comprehend the difference between the support of an artist and the love of their art. Furthermore, all of the evidence would suggest that Woody Allen is innocent. I've always found his films to be lacking true cinematic qualities so this isn't a devoted fan who is blinded. There's an entire doc on TH-cam that is more well researched and convincing than any of the other pieces

About meditation, the point of meditation is really to stop associating yourself with the thoughts that come in and out of your head. A lot of people get stuck on stopping the thoughts and that pressure alone can be deterring. Ultimately, the goal is to allow thoughts to enter and leave your awareness. Your thoughts are not you. We are just the observer. We have to train ourselves to stop deriving worth and identity from the thought-forms that both come from and into our minds. It is a strange but helpful practice.

I'm autistic, Yes the nazi-thing and exactly like Rick said I dont personally like the term aspergers for the same reason as I dont like the idea of "mild autism" etc. because it divides people into groups based on their perceived skills which are not always that fixed. Anyone on the spectrum can experience loss of skills and fluctuate with their ability at being "passable" depending on the kind of support they have/need. Which is also a big reason why people can get complete breakdowns when their battery for pretending to be neurotypical has been used up. Theres just a lot of false stuff out there even in medical field about autism and the whole community is currently going through massive upheavals just like all the minorities that are tired of being considered as "less than". I feel like you can call yourself what you like of course, but to me using the term aspergers leaves out the people with autism who actually need the voices of "aspergers" people who can communicate more, and feels hierarchical like "i'm not that kind of an autistic" when honestly with enough stress and no support systems you could lose skills and be one of "those" autistics so those with good verbal skills have more power, privileges and therefore also responsibility to hold space and try to keep an eye for the rights for those on the spectrum with less ability to do so. Theres not two kinds of autistics theres autistic people that have varying strengths and challenges depending on their life, family, co-morbidities and severity of sensory issues, just like everyone else does. But thats just my take.
