When I was 4 years old I was given a record from my dad. I played it probably a dozen times a day for as long as I remember. There was just something about that record I couldn't get out of my head. At such an early age to like a specific record was just so interesting. to me. Well, the name of the artist is Ritchie Valens. I treasured that record with my life, but 20 something years ago I misplaced it. Well, fast forward 20 something years... I'm married to a woman named Donna and have been with her all of that time. She's my world. Today I was in my parents garage going through this and that and low and behold I found my childhood most favorite record! Unfortunately it has 2 hair line cracks, watched this video and boom... It's fixed. Thank you so much, because yesterday was Valentines day. VERY COINCIDENTAL (Valens / Valentines) and this means so much to have it back. My wife's going to jaw drop when she comes home!

Any tips on getting marker pen off labels as well?
Very informative video John. I have a 7" vinyl single that has a small crack at the edge, which is now fixed after using the superglue method demonstrated here. I might have a go also with your sticker removing method as I recently bought a ABBA 7" poster sleeve record that had stickers stuck on the labels. Unfortunately as I attempted to peel the stickers off some of the blue paper label came off with them. Oh well, you win some you lose some I suppose. Thanks John for sharing these helpful tips.
If I can add a tip to this John, which I kinda think and hope improves ever so slightly ure repairing a crack method. I just repaired a seven inch using ure method and up to the point where u colour the edge of the vinyl with a pen, I then stopped. Munchkin (my girlfriend) was painting her nails with black nail varnish and I had either a moment of genius or sheer stupidity. I swapped the pen finish for a small trail of black nail varnish (as with the glue) and it’s left a shiny, HARD finish adding extra strength to the edge. U will probably tell me nail varnish melts vinyl but only time will tell lol.
On that petrol based label John. I find that breaking down the surface (as you did with the water based label, with a bit of saliva) and then adding the lighter fluid through the pulp paper will attack the glue better. Freeing the label without having to do too much scratching at the edges. Nice info and each to ones own.
good way of curing warps sandwich it between two pieces of heavy glass and leave on window sill in sunlight
I used to do this with sand and sandpaper. Works wonders. But this trick is also really neat. But be careful, you can get scratches really easily by the method in the video if you are not cautious.
Cheers I've been looking for a method to repair my dads cracked record that he sang in, in 1979. It's quite rare now. He accidently damaged it a few years ago while moving furniture.
My days. Oven only dug 45 funk for 18 years but. Sheeeeet! That is some heavy shit! . . Chucked my bad warps but if you love something enough?! 👍

Had to buy another in order to hear it again, but back then was only an £8 on demo sound. So, then, I had two, of which only one would plaaasyyyeersh, er play.
What's the best way of cleaning em?
I have a Masquaraders Do You Love Me demo and someone blacked out the 2 lines stating it is a demo. Any ideas how to get rid of the black ink lines.
I would use UN DO and then if any stickiness use GOO GONE.
Superglue method can it also used by 78’s ?
I know this with styrene. The comeback of breakable records.
With regards to the non water based stickers and lighter fluid, do you have to be careful to not get any on the playing surface?

I would put a very thin velvet padding under and on top of the record so those metal things your using do not mark up and scratch the record's surface.

Dont think so, I would just not play that part or at all.
My fathers siblings recorded an album as children. It’s the only record of them singing together. Unfortunately it’s in broken pieces now. It may even have a missing chunk. I know it’s a stretch, but my faith leads me here... any chance it could be restored?
If it’s in pieces and there is a piece missing probably not . You could try and salvage it though and at least put it together for aesthetic purposes
Unfortunately,you can't tell whether or not the promos on Columbia [CBS/Sony] here in America are either vinyl or Styrene,as the labels look like paste ons.
the ones between 1975 and 1980,that is.

Okeh, if you /one had a Little Johnny Hamilton 'Oh How I Love You' on a Dore demo, ( got for £20 back in 79/80), then (bstrd) snapped across by too tight box packing, would you approve of an £80 purchase of said sound?
Twas taken at said price in 93. Was me, as owner, (and I may have bought it from you for the £20 to start, can't quite remember = an idiot to have let it go, even fir 80 in Silchester damaged state???

A little olive oil works on removing labels as well.But spits cheaper.

If it's cracked I toss it. I'm not putting my stylus through that wear and tear. I'd rather buy another copy than have to replace my expensive stylus.
