    I bought my 220 in 2011 and love it. Mine has the rail on it and it sits by my bedside every night with a light on it. Its nice to see someone sharing an iconic firearm once and awhile because those guns will never fade in my opinion. Jack Wilson took down the Texas church shooter with the 229 357 Sig in that same configuration only in a compact version. Thanks for sharing an iconic pistol that many still and always will carry and own.

      It’s a great design that is proven. As a police supervisor I worked with a few Texas Rangers. They carried 1911’s mostly. But when it came time for tactical operations they showed up with Sig P220’s and 226’s in .357 (along with LaRue rifles). The 1911’s were classic, but the P220’s were reliable workhorses.

      In the 80’s and 90’s
      Sigs were kind of the best kept secret for Military and Law Enforcement use. Colt and S&W got the attention. Then came Glock. I like metal frame pistols, and 1911’s could be picky on magazines and ammo, but the Sigs just ran. Texas DPS used to be mostly Sig P220’s. Great pistols I feel. Many say the older W German ones were best. I do want a newer one with rail and short trigger though.

      @@CAVCOP, I picked the new P220 last week. My son and I shot 165 rounds through it so far. I really like it, definitely don't have buyer's remorse. I'm thinking about getting a P229 Elite in the fall or winter.

    It is a .45 that I like. Back in the 90’s I bought mostly .357’s and .45’s. One of the first pistols I got rid of was a Glock 21 (early Gen 2) as it was a bulky brick. But the SIG P220, it ran better than most of my 1911’s. No huge break in period, or need to swap parts. Great factory pistol.

  • @charlesshankle3178
    @charlesshankle3178 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

    Yes, it's better. It has less moving parts, simpler operating system, feeds nearly any ammo and is accurate. It's my EDC

    • @CAVCOP
      @CAVCOP  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Agreed. I feel it’s an under rated pistol.

      @@CAVCOP yes, it's badly underrated because it is somewhat misunderstood. It was made for the cold war and to be able to fire ammunition of questionable quality such as the ammo found in a third world country that could misfire. This could cause a stoppage in a Glock or single action pistols like the 1911, BHP, etc. rather than rerack the slide, pull the trigger again with the P220. My future wife was a Czech police officer. Her choice is the CZ75. Similar idea, another outstanding pistol. But, the slide is hard for me to manipulate and, it's harder to get parts for it. Not to mention, finding a SIG armorer is much easier

    I got a hold of one around ten years ago at a police supply I stopped in at after a prisoner transport and found a police trade in at a real deal on the P-220 no rail in really good condition. Love it ! OEM mags are pricey 🇺🇸

    • @CAVCOP
      @CAVCOP  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I have heard the older ones are better. I still want a railed one with their DAK trigger, but it’s lower on the list. Sig has done some neat limited runs with the newer P220, but the older ones just seem to work. Sadly a lot of factory magazines are expensive, like H&K.

      I do like the feel of metal over polymer pistols.

    I bought my first of many SIGs, a P220 European model, in 1986 or '87. It would shoot circles around my dad's Colt Gold Cup.

    • @CAVCOP
      @CAVCOP  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The European models are great. Do you own any newer ones with a rail? I have heard of some issues with newer ones. I am hesitant to buy a new one, but also fear Sig might stop making them as newer designs become more popular. I also debate buying a metal frame P320 AGX, as I was not impressed with my P320/M17.

  • @samwalker7821
    @samwalker7821 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    One advantage the P220 has over the 1911 is that right out of the box you have a pistol that is perfectly matched for the SIG factory mags. Many 1911's will work great too but sometimes finding compatible mags is necessary for 100% reliability. There are just too many makers of both the pistol itself and various magazines to guarantee flawless function.

    • @CAVCOP
      @CAVCOP  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Absolutely. The 1911 used to require set magazine brands, with set ammo to function properly. The Sig could fire steel cases, hollow points, etc as many European pistols were designed for.
      Groups like the Navy SEALS and Law Enforcement went from revolvers to the Sigs, as there was no safety and it had a double action pull for under stress, or you could manually cock it. The 1911 required a lot more training and tuning. Though today 1911’s are better made as barrel designs and magazines/springs have improved.
      I do like the metal frame P series.

      I still need to buy a Mk25. The way Sig is, they might stop making them soon. So many guns, so little money. And Ruger just released the A-Team Mini 14 (folding wooden stock, rated for 5.56, with bayonet lug). The older I get, the tighter my budget. The Mk25 is an excellent pistol for 9mm.

    I bought my GERMAN made P220 in 1991 and know it is flawless when operating with any type of .45ACP. Never a failure of any kind in over 1,000 rounds. The SIG stainless, 8rnd mags work flawlessly. A pleasure to shoot. If carrying, I have 4 additional mags on my belt; so, 41 rounds total. Night sights and CTC Laser grips provide low light assistance.

    • @CAVCOP
      @CAVCOP  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      European made pistols have impressed me, more so with the ability to shoot cheaper steel cased ammo. SIG, Betetta, CZ, have eaten about any ammo I have fed them. The P220 in its day was an amazing pistol. I have had a few people say the newer Sig USA P220 are not a reliable. I kind of want one with a rail and new grip/trigger, but am hesitant.
