I'd love to have seen this episode. A subtitled version would do.

Heather Mohieddeen That was about all the footage from the Borders. The rest was studio work. I remember watching this at the time and being disappointed that the inside of the library was completely different from the actual library. 😂

As Stuart correctly identified, this is taken from the final episode “Critics yes, but this is ridiculous!”, broadcast in September 1971. I have the full episode on VHS, in English, but in B+W! Apart from the Gala footage, Peel House and Leaderfoot, there is also a passing car shot taken from outside Clint Lodge near Clintmains and some extensive exterior shots of a very derelict Whitmuir Hall near Selkirk long before it was renovated.

Anyone else interested in the Galashiels and surrounding area on film should check out “Flash the Sheepdog” (1966 with Melrose and Gala train stations featured along with the Yarrow Valley) and “The Great Mill Race” (1975 with Dunsdale Road Selkirk, College of Textiles Gala, sections of the newly completed roundabouts near Melrose/Tweedbank and an epic van stunt at Smailholm Tower!).

Hi Stuart, please can you advise me as to what BBC series this clipping was taken from. My cousin would like to buy it for her brother- in-law's birthday as he is looking good in his kilt. We live in Gala, there is a lot of good scenery on it too.

Hi. This was the final ever episode of the series & as far as I know, the BBC no longer has a copy in their archives. This version came from ZDF in Germany and there's no copy with the English soundtrack so it's not on DVD I'm afraid.
