The scene of Andy crying saying Chucky was going to kill him almost always get me and I felt so bad for him!
But Andy was one of the smartest characters in the horror genre. He almost did everything by himself and relied on himself other than Mike and his mother.
Also Chucky is a savage and funny at times. But yes, Chucky knows spells due to being taught voodoo magic.

This movie traumatized me because I had a freakin My Buddy Doll. This movie freaked me out so much Buddy had to go. My mom put Buddy in the trunk of her car to give him away but forgot about it for months. One day she asked me to get something out of the trunk and there was Buddy. I thought he came back to kill me and had nightmares for a long time.

There’s are some horror sequels you can make the argument for, like Friday the 13th, which I think the first movie is pretty lame and tame compared to the third one, or Jason Lives. Brad Dourif’s performance as Chucky and Alex Vincent’s as Andy is always a standout in these movies. Brad is still doing it (awesomely I might add) Alex has developed the character into something special as an adult. Today he’s like a Jason Bourne and Punisher hybrid (debatable, but I’d love to hear some comparisons of your own!)

Older horror movies are always scarier than modernized horror movies, mainly because older movies don’t show a lot of the horror on screen until close to the climax, you just hear about events that take place and what your imagination creates about what happened is far more terrifying than what you actually see. I remember being traumatized just imagining all of the things Chucky told Andy before anybody else realized Andy wasn’t lying

Brad Dourif is a fantastic actor. Seriously underrated!
You have seen him in your reactions before, almost a year ago. He played Billy in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, just at the start of his career.
And he stayed faithful to the Child's Play franchise, doing the voice in like half a dozen sequels, even though most others would have seen it as beneath them at the end. In my opinion the sequels just got worse and sillier the more they made, so I gave up after the fourth sequel. He's not in the 2019 remake/reboot, but they got Mark Hamill to do it. Still, I take Dourif's absence as a hint and am not interested.
But he did the voice in the first season of the 2021 TV-series Chucky, and that got a higher IMDb-rating than any of the movies.

I always hated dolls. I had one as tall as me when I was a child that terrified me, so I buried it in the coal shed 😂. I was about 11/12 when I saw this and felt vindicated! Fast forward my youngest daughter is autistic and at one time was obsessed with dolls. She had 27 which she would line up down the side of my bed. I didn’t sleep well for a few years….🫣🤣

THIS WAS THE VERY FIRST HORROR FILM I SAW WHEN I WAS 3 YEARS OLD!!
My dad recorded this on VHS off of HBO along with BATMAN 89 And GHOSTBUSTERS 2.

I was 8 when this came out, my brother was 18. He and his buddies watched this in our basement. We had some mattresses leaning against a wall and I hid behind them and watched the entire movie. Traumatized for years! I was also scarred from watching Jaws, I used to have a reoccurring dream Chucky was walking down our hallway and would morph into the carpet and turn into a shark and swim through the shag carpet at me.

  • @IDyce88

the thing people forget about Chucky is that although he is in a doll's body...he still has the strength of a normal man...which is why the hammer worked.
Charles Lee Ray (aka the Lakeshore Strangler) not only was a serial killer but he ENJOYED what he did...got off on it. the later films reveal he killed quite a few people before becoming the doll his primary skill is making other people look responsible for his work.
it was French...a lot of countries that practise Voodoo spoke French.

If you wanna watch the other movies, I'd say watch number 2, 3 and end with Bride of Chucky. Anything after that, imo is a hit or miss. I'd say the subsequent movies, it's more black-comedy than horror (though still has plenty gore at times), I love Chucky because of his sass and iconic, cheesy one-liners. With all respect to Mark Hamill and Fiona Dourif, no one does Chucky better than the OG Brad Dourif.
The fact many of your fans (me included) would've loved to vibe with your grandma over our shared love for the Childs Play movies has me tickled xD RIP Grandma she sounds badass. Childs Play has a special place in my heart bc it was the first movie to terrorize 4yo me. Chucky plagued my nightmares and I couldnt even look at pics of him without feeling nervous. But when I turned 15yo and was more into horror movies, I had a dream where I killed Chucky myself which helped me get over my fear of him :D Childs Play then became one of my fave horror franchises to date.

What's great about the Chucky design is it's ugly and creepy when it's just a plain ol' Good Guy doll.
But ADORABLE when it starts talking like Brad Douriff and murdering everyone.
Plus the look has been tweaked since the 80s, the face looks a lot cuter now.

I'm a horror movie buff and Chucky is the only character I still get literal nightmares of to this day... I'm 38. I really have this reoccurring dream no matter how old I get of being chased through my childhood home by Chucky with a butchers knife. I was allowed to watch horror movies at a younger age than I probably should have and this is surprisingly the one that impacted my child brain the most. Honestly, I hope I'm still getting Chucky nightmares when I'm 70.

Concerning toy hammers and such; I had a nephew that was given a tool belt complete with plastic hammer, scewdriver, pliers, etc. The tools were all hard plastic. This was back in the 60s and he was about 5yrs old. As for what he could do with them? Well, first he lost the hammer because he was banging on the coffee table and left dents in it. Then he lost the screwdriver after loosening and removing all the screws on the legs of the dining room table! Eventually he had nothing left but the belt, all the tools had been confiscated.
Great movie and a great reaction! The Good Guy dolls are kind of creepy but so are a lot of real dolls that have been on the market now and then.
