Lay is a huge Krump dancer. He learned it in under 6 months too! The creator (an American) of Krump style dancing even called Lay and complimented him and was blown away by how short of a time he had been doing it! Please check out more of his music! Lay and Kang Daniel are my favorite soloist!!!

Chinese members of K-Pop, like Lay and Jackson Wang, did solo projects like this. I had forgotten how good this was (it was released around the same time as Daechwita which I found exciting because it brought into focus very different but similar historic cultural references). Jackson Wang went more old school R&R and his MV’s end with some behind the scenes).
Lay is one of EXO, he's one man multitasking. There is Flying Apsaras, there is only visualizer and it's so cool, just because he doesn't like the result but the dance practice is soooo gooooddd. And there's VEIL!!!
Actually, it’s Flying Apsaras dance practice got me into pop music. Then I quickly became an EXO-L.
I’m so glad I got to see Lay’s Grandline tour in San Francisco.

Yes LAY. he is really amazingly talented and stay still so humble, He put so much hard work in his songs, trying different styles integrating his chinese culture in it. Even learning new dance styles. And the fact that hes put mIllions of his own mony in producing all the MV says alot.

I was introduced after commenting on Sugas Daechita so I checked it out and thought ..Damn!. I thought that this was a solo from a different k-group's member from China though & not a group. So the member did his cultural homage in his solo. All I am saying is production needs to step up everywhere to meet Asia. This was beautiful.

I think this song is so cool, like how traditional Chinese instruments are mixed with modern music. I wish I knew the name of the traditional instrument that's used in the song but I know it's not a guitar:)
Something spooky just happened! I love Lit by Lay (also his track "Honey" totally different vibe) - have not seen the MV in about 4-6 months. Woke this morning, thought I'll watch the MV again and you have dropped it on YT today! Love your reactions, love this MV, how random is that timing!
I am desperate for a film to be made with this production and with Lay as the lead!
Everything about this MV was epic… lyrics, beat, visuals, the fact that Lay put up the money (a rumoured 1.4million) himself to produce this and that the MV is based on one of his favourite Chinese legends of a powerful general trying to rescue the love of his life. The lotus theme, if I am getting this correct, is symbolic of becoming something beautiful in a world full of ugliness…. showing his haters he can do anything if he wants to. The dark trap beat just pairs beautifully with the traditional instruments and I hope that he stays with this style as I’ve fallen in love with it. You have to check out ‘Veil’ by him too… so damn good… as is ‘Horse’ & ‘Jade’… although I think there is only lyric videos for those. There is a live performance of ‘Horse’ which is amazing but it has no subtitles. So glad you checked him out… he is so worth a listen and supporting as he is a sweetheart too.
PS. Give Huta with his songs ‘Boom’ and ‘Ya’ a listen. A little more on the pop side but still so good.

If you are interested, the guitar-sounding instrument is actually a kind of Chinese lute called the pipa ^^ His other songs also features other interesting instruments/elements: Veil (stringed-bow instrument called the erhu, muyu), Flying Apsaras (more pipa & classical dance from Dunhuang & motto caves), Horse (morin khuur/horsehead fiddle & Mongolian ethnic dance), Jade (cubic flute called hulusi), Changsha (Chinese flute called dizi), Descendants of the Dragon (Chinese horn called suona), Gluttony (pipa, erhu, cymbals called xiaocha), etc. etc.
Lay plays the hulusi and currently learning the erhu ^^
Lay is so talented - also an excellent dancer and was a judge on Street Dance of China season 3 with Jackson and Yibo.. then on season 4 again with Yibo and Henry Lau. He is also one of the most humble humans on the planet.There is so much talent in China - some of them were trainees in Korea before going back but the pool is deep.... heaps of content for you to wade through John !! Lay can pretty much do everything ! He is a singer, a rapper, a dancer, a choreographer, a producer, a snob writer, he even owns his own entertainment company. He will hopefully promote again with EXO in their next comeback, it's been so long ♡

In China they have their own social media platforms alternative to what we use. The platforms we use are forbidden there so they use VPN in order to access youtube for example. That's why Chinese singers views are not that high on youtube. But in their social media platforms LAY has billions of views and one of the most famous artists in China. He sells billions and he is well known.

Lay is a part of Exo and the group's remaining Chinese member. It is just that he is not actively promoting with them the past couple of years due to political tensions between China and South Korea. In the meantime he has made a VERY successful solo career in China. He has multiple awards as an artist and producer. He is appearing in tv shows, stars in dramas and movies. He is also an endorser of multiple local and inernatinal brands. He is very passionate in what he does and is always making ways to improve himself and learn new things be it in dancing, singing or academically etc.
He's the one you said may be your bias in the Exo Monster video.

LIT means LOTUS in chinese so when he says '' I am the lit'' he means '' I am the lotus'' which has a meaning in their culture, i mean the lotus.

I love this because it’s inclusive of this ARTIST’s CULTURE. From other comments, my understanding is that LIT means LOTUS…his haters called him that as a derogatory term. In his CHINESE culture it’s like calling an INDIGENOUS NATIVE AMERICAN a RED APPLE 🍎. I would recommend his DANCE PERFORMANCE “FLYING ASPARAS”. He spent a million on this MV as a SINCERE TRIBUTE…I agree it’s absolutely STUNNING.
A different CHINESE ARTIST who I’m sure you’ll love is JACKSON WANG “CRUEL” who is also a member of GOT7 a KPOP Group who semi disbanded by their messed up ENTERTAINMENT Agency in SK.
