Hey, I am a mother of 2 kids. I got terrible memory loss due to pregnancy since 4.5 years ago. (At this time, I did not remember most of the evens in my life before I give birth). Then I decided to practice to gain my memory back since 3 years ago. I saw your video 6 months ago but I did not ready yet. Now I am ready. I could remember 12 cards in....5 mins now. For others people, it's nothing. But for me, it means a lot. Today, I continue to practice for the full deck of card. I will do it because I want to show for other mothers (in Vietnam) that they can gain their memory back after loss memory due to pregnancy. Thank you for all your videos... I am a fan of you.
Dude I would love to bump into you somewhere. You're an amazing expert on this in my eyes. Im an old stage wizard from the 15th century and, after all those years of substitution trunks im done with the stage. Working on card and closeup now. Stacks ,like mnemonica. Just can't get over your abilities. Great job. I know you put in years of effort.
Freaking awesome .. I thought it takes years to learn this trick but I freaking learnt and remembered face cards in 12 mins (in fact less than that) .. subscribed!!!!!!
I'm just starting to really get into memory systems and everything. And I'm super impressed not only how easy it is to pick up, but how easy it makes remembering things! I just finished memorizing the face cards and I surprised myself when I got it the first time. Thanks so much for the advice.
I assigned cards by people's initials, the suits being the first letter of the last names (D, C, H or S). First names, Ace & Jack are A & J, but the queens and kings are actual or fictional monarchs (eg - King David, Queen of Sheeba). 2 = D (arbitrary choice), 3 is a backwards E, 4 begins with F, 5 looks like an S, 6 is an upside-down small g, 7 is L flipped and backwards, 8 looks like B, and from spelling, 9 = N and 10 = T. Works 4 me, the 10 of spades!
You are a phenomenal person! I'm feeling a bit stupid right now and i always thought i was smart with a fairly decent memory. I have to push myself now, you just put everyone I've ever met to shame mentally geez.
Great video. Thanks for elaborating on the differences of using shared verbs (Tiger's "swing" vs. Serena's "swing"). This saves a tremendous amount of time!
Thank you for your great video. I changed things a little. Using all Super Heros Characters. A - 10 are Heros, 7 - 9 are monsters, 3 - 6 are Villians, and 2s and love interests such as Mary Jane, Lois Lane, est. I did this because it alines better with card counting. Then... I felt that Object and Action were too similar. So I when with Person, Super Power or weapon, and Location. Location conflicted a bit with my memory palace so I shrink everything down to a miniature scale and that seemed to help.
Great stuff Nelson. It's taken me 3 days to assign a person to each card. I'm using the number rhyme system 1-10. i.e 2 of spades is Sylvester Stallone ( 2 = SHOE and starts with an S + the S for Spades ) I'm working on the Action and Object for all but it's tricky and I will get there.
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
nelson... i saw you on the netflix documentary ‘memory games’. i am so happy that you created this channel. i love watching you and hope that i will be able to take advantage of your teaching skills.
I got APO part down, but I had been wondering about how to keep it all straight. Thanks for clarifying that here. Now I just need to practice this using the mind palace technique.
Awesome Video Nelson. I took all 52 cards and linked them to people using the major system For the spade cards I used a shovel meaning people who passed away. Sometimes the person doesn't follow the major system but that's alright with me. Hearts are movie characters example 6 of hearts is Jason Bourne 9 of hearts is Obi Won Diamonds are presidents so I took presidents 31-43 and stuck a female in there for the queen. Maybe I will rethink it though.
My newest and sad one I added was the K of spades took out Tom Jones and replaced it with Adam West. Yes I had living people as well. I think now I have all people who passed away. have to recheck that list. I even have some cartoon characters in there as well.
Here is what I do: Jacks are the suit itself (can't be easier than that!) QC-cream QH-queen QS-steam QD-dream (the “eam” rymes with Queen) KC-king KH-hing KS-sing KD-drink (the “ing” rymes with King)
The Harry Lorayne pegs. I started with them and I'm modifying the list into words easier to visualize. For instance dream is Freddy Krueger, the verb "to dream" means to slash with a razor glove, the adjective "dreamy" means in the process of morphing into Freddy (like the car at the end of the first film), and the setting (if I need a place) is the boiler room. For all of these I still think the word "dream". "Steam" is not that memorable, so for SQ I changed the rule Squid squishes squeaky squash in squalor. Right now I'm trying to convert everything into clusters of 5. Person- action (transitive verb)- adjective (can hyphenate a noun or add ing to a verb if needed), object (can be the same as the person), and place. For the most part all are based on the Lorayne systen, but if I have a strong enough image I'll make exceptions and link to the person instead. I prefer clusters of 5 because we think in base-ten numbers. Also I already have a system to automatically get ten locations out of any room: 4 bottom corners, floor, 4 top corners, ceiling the leftover adjective-noun pair can just be floating in space. Outside I can use a pair of familiar buildings: the corners and the roofs. A couple examples: AC = Cat: Cat cuts cute cat in a litterbox. 5S= Sail: Popeye sails (uses as a sailboat) slow sail in a boat KH: Hank hangs hanging (or hung) Hinge on a Hankey Ks: Sing (or Sting): Sting sings(to or about) singing(or stinging) singer(or stinger) on a piano bench 10S Zeus: Zeus Zeuses (throws lightning bolts at) saucy Zeus(or Suzie) on Mount Olympus. These are only redundant in the description because in a single deck, the card won't be repeated. It's still a work in progress. I'm still having getting it completely error free.
Also: For JH "Heart" and QH "Queen", do NOT use the bands in your mental image. Queen had a male singer, yet is represented by the Queen, and Heart has a female singer yet is represented by the Jack. Furthermore, Heart has a song and album named "Little Queen". It makes it far too easy to get the two crossed.
This is awesome !!! I practice this for only two days, total around 2 hours or even less(And most of the time I spent on naming the cards only ) I can now memorize a deck of card in around 10 mins. Thank for this video. My goal is trying to do it under a minute, should I just keep practice this method or should I try some other method ?
@@NelsonDellis After watching your video I start get interesting on memory, I would like to start train myself, but my question is, should I get good on one event first such as memory a deck or know all the basic on each event first?
@@ryanlee1195 Great question. My thoughts: the most important thing is to train a little bit every day. Doing too much can quickly get overwhelming. You want to stay motivated every day to get better. So choosing one event (cards is a great choice) or maybe two is a perfect place to start. Yes you're getting good at just one or two events, but you'll be simultaneously building a foundation for your memory techniques, which can be easily applied to other events. In short, GO FOR CARDS!
Will H couple remarks here: actually a 6 card PAO does not exist. Yes there are 2 card systems, but they are not based on PAO. Secondly, a lot of competitive memorizers have broken 30 seconds while using PAO. The current world record of 12.75 seconds was done with a 3 card PAO.
@@NelsonDellis I keep practice at least one time a day I can now do it around 6 mins, but here comes another question. Every time when I try to practice more then one time in a short period of time, I always mess up the people on the location in my palace, this is really limiting my practice. Are there any way I can just clean up my palace? Or I should prepare more palace for memorize cards?
Hello Nelson - I have just started learning this and find it fascinating. Can you offer suggestions on how to practice learning a deck of cards, multiple times, in one practice session? I'm not able to get through the entire deck yet and so I begin again from the start. I'm having problems with mixing up images in my loci from previous attempts. Can I use just one memory palace for my deck of card memorization or do I need to have many places and rotate them? How do you clear memory palaces? Hope my question makes sense! Thanks in advance!
If you're just starting out and your goal is to learn a deck "stack", would you use the method as described and then use the walk through a memory palace to place the cards in order? Or, something else? Like create a storyline? I think I missed one of the Chris Ramsay vids, but not sure which one. Thanks!
Hi Nelson. I'm hoping you can help me with a challenge I'm having when I memorize a deck of cards. I can memorize a deck, but I put one character at each location in my memory palace. When I try to file two, or three, characters into one location, I have trouble recalling who they are. I'm also incorporating objects, and actions, with my characters. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I read your book, and it's one of my favorites. Thank you for putting that together. All the best to you and your family. Ed
Great videos! Thanks for sharing, one quick question. Do you think it is possible to use some techniques that help you become ambidextrous? I ask cause I'm a guitar player that had an accident in my hand, so I'm starting to think about switching to the other side, but it is very difficult! Do you think some techniques can be applied to make the switch easier? Thanks!
All those tutorials are fantastics and very well done. Thank you for making them, I'll be spreading them around. I'm also working on filming and editing a bunch of tutorials about memory and learning (in French). It's a whole new skill to learn and much more time consuming than I would have thought. So far I've been experimenting and getting both good and bad results. Any advise on what type of not overly expensive camera or editing software I should use? Any particular website I should check out?
Thanks! I started with iMovie (on Mac) for editing, which is very basic and it was totally fine to get started. Now I use Premiere Pro (expensive if you're on a budget, but worth it). As for cameras, you can see the gear I use in the description of the video. To make tutorials, the gear doesn't really matter honestly. I've done bits of my videos with an iPhone even, in a pinch. If you have a story or a good idea, then camera doesn't really matter. What I think is important is audio (At least for tutorial), so make sure you have a good external mic (see the ones I use in the video description - there's an awesome one that plugs right into your iPhone).
awesome video. I've been practicing this technique and I also have your book but quick question: any tips on remembering the P in the PAO once they are in my memory palace? I find it difficult to remember who it is in my memory palace that is doing the A and O. For example - If I have Tiger Woods eating a beard. I sometimes can't recall if it's Tiger Woods or Michael Jordan or Jack Nicholson eating a beard (for example). The eating of the beard I remember no problem - it's the person that I find hard. Thanks!
I am a big football fan and I remember jersey numbers of many players. Is that a good way to remember the number cards ? Hearts can be Manchester united for example, and then 6 of hearts will be Paul pogba.
@@NelsonDellis thank you so much, i'am stealing a lot from you. basically i am doing this . i have my PAO 00-99, i use numbers from 01 to 13 for aces( in italian spears), 21 to 33 for hearts( in italian hearts), 41 to 53 for clubs(in italian flowers) and 61 to 73 for diamonds( in italian bills or squares). I am learning those but some of the PAO are counterintuitive for cards but very powerful for numbers, like Tina Turner sniffing coke (jack of aces). what would you suggest ? to keep my number PAO or mix it somehow by having multiple images for one number, like Tina Turner- sniffing-coke and Danny DeVito-Shooting- with an umbrella ?
I'm just getting started with memory training. The one question I've been trying to answer is will these techniques improver your general memory, like when you aren't actively trying with the memory palace etc ?
you don't always have to use the memory palace to remember everything. The point of these memory techniques is to teach you to visualise and observe which will tremendously boost your natural memory
Could I, for example, turn every number to a letter (B for 8, E for 3 etc) and then when I see 3 I instantly know that the name of the person starts with E? Well it be effective or will it slow me down?
Lol, Tiger Woods just won the Master's so your comment was funny that he used to be the king of clubs. But I really like your method. I used a similar process to memorize three graduate papers in theology for my comps. I broke down each paper into roughly 26 parts. For one I used letters in the alphabet. Another was numbers from 1 to 26. The third paper I used my room and objects as I walked around it that were in consecutive order as I thought about the room Then just made wild associating images for everything. We had to write without any notes for 90 minutes for each paper. They provided a clean notepad and a computer without internet. Immediately I wrote the alphabet and my 26 image words, then just wrote my paper. Same with the other 2. But I practiced in my head for weeks with just note cards till I had it down. Considering that I was 60 years old with not the best memory, I did very well and passed with flying colors and got my masters.
Hi Nelson. I can't seem to get below 15 minutes without sacrificing accuracy. Any advice? Do you suggest 1) ignoring time, getting the recall perfect, then trying to reduce time, or 2) maintaining a shorter time, ignoring the accuracy, and then trying to improve on the accuracy?
It's been 2 years, so I might not be of help to you, but maybe to others. It all depends on what you're planning on doing, are you memorising them just cause you can (perfectly valid reason) or are you doing it for competitions? If it's the former, then do what you want. But if it's the latter, then I would recommend focusing on accuracy since (as far as I'm aware) in competitions, it doesn't matter if you've memorised all 52 cards, if you make a mistake on the 6th card, then you're only going to get points for the first 5 cards Happy memorising :)
one question: when practicing this... say, 52cards 6-7 times a day... do i need 6-7 memory palaces with 17 places? to put it the orther way: do i have to create mem palace after mem palace to practice this thing a thousand times? because the images overlay each other when using the same palace. thanks in advance :)
Nelson Dellis It sure does and he really was - World War II Marine self made man honest hardworking ingenious funny - you’ll get a chance to meet him in heaven :-) And I think you have champion fibers as well! Again love your content - very upbeat positive strong inspiring interesting - keep it up for us mortals please :-) Here Is what I found: www.behindthename.com/name/nelson From an English surname meaning "son of NEIL". It was originally given in honour of the British admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805). His most famous battle was the Battle of Trafalgar, in which he destroyed a combined French and Spanish fleet, but was himself killed. Another notable bearer was the South African statesman Nelson Mandela (1918-2013). www.behindthename.com/name/neil And when you look up the origins of the word “Neil”: From the Gaelic name Niall, which is of disputed origin, possibly meaning "champion" or "cloud". This was the name of a semi-legendary 4th-century Irish king, Niall of the Nine Hostages. In the early Middle Ages the name was adopted by Viking raiders and settlers in Ireland in the form Njal. The Vikings transmitted it to England and Scotland, as well as bringing it back to Scandinavia. It was also in use among the Normans, who were of Scandinavian origin. A famous bearer of this name was American astronaut Neil Armstrong (1930-2012), the first person to walk on the moon. Have a great Friday!
awwww no goood. you have two swinging actions! lol jk nice video. I use PAO and i have my names, actions, and objects all down to one or two syllables. Despite the picture in my head being the REAL thing that matters, i found even having the P,A, and O down to short words has also helped me with regard to speed. While using a 17 location mind palace.
please, can you tell name of books you used to train you memory. I had requested you in one of your videos but I didn't get any response. looking forward for your reply.
I've read many and the most fun and interesting I think clearly is Moonwalking With Einstein. When it comes to good training tips, Dominic O'Brien's books and some other ones are good, but I actually found websites like mullenmemory and memory-sports and artofmemory dot com to be the most helpful ressources.
Hey Aavash, sorry I missed your other comment. "Moonwalking With Einstein" is a great general intro to the memory world. But for nitty gritty techniques, I'd tell you to get my book but it won't be out until next year :D In the mean time, I'd check out artofmemory.com (they have a great forum with tons of content).
Nelson I really need your help... i have been using ur technique to remember all the cards.. now i am in trouble remembering it after so many times oof practice. the problem is that i have used it day and night and now all my visuals are linked together or i can remember the person action object but i cant remember it like for eg, pikachu was 10 of clubs i have used in in almost all the places of my mind palace and i cant remember when i am remembering where pikachu is placed... can you help me here in comments please???
Pikachu is in my deck too. He is the 3 of clubs. For me, all the clubs are video game characters. And Pikachu is 3 because THREEkachu. Cloud Strife is 7 because Final Fantasy 7. Sonic is the ace because Sonic is a my favorite game character. Tails is 2 because he has 2 tails and he's always following Sonic, and 2 comes after ace. Etc Etc. Does that help?
so how do you distinguish repeating actions once they are "disassociated" with the person doing the action? So once swinging is inside a different person/action, how do you know if it was Tiger or Serena?

I ask cause I'm a guitar player that had an accident in my hand, so I'm starting to think about switching to the other side, but it is very difficult! Do you think some techniques can be applied to make the switch easier? Thanks!

Hola!!
excellent video
Quick question, do we assign a POA to all 52 cards? And as we memorize the deck, group the cards into 3s?
Also, love the content Nelson!
Each card gets a person action and an object yes!
@@NelsonDellis Thank you!
@@NelsonDellis Do you advise writing down the POA for each card to refer to, since it does not change each time I try memorizing the deck?
@@yathindhaja1488 to start, when you’re first learning them, that’s not a bad idea. But eventually you’ll be doing them with no assistance
@@NelsonDellis Great, thank you!
Thanks for the infos. And yes indeed fixing up bad audio has been a huge waste of time and I definitely should invest in something better.
awesome video. Thanks!

Ur a great man...
Cool video. Quick question: This is copyrighted music right? How much do you have to pay to use it?
I am a big football fan and I remember jersey numbers of many players. Is that a good way to remember the number cards ? Hearts can be Manchester united for example, and then 6 of hearts will be Paul pogba.
Yes! That's a great idea. Use what you know well. It will make everything easier for you.
HI :) thanks for the content. one quick question. Are you using the same PAO from numbers or another PAO specifically for the cards ?
Good question. Some are shared. Not all, but a lot of them.
The point of these memory techniques is to teach you to visualise and observe which will tremendously boost your natural memory
sir you are awesome❤️
Could I, for example, turn every number to a letter (B for 8, E for 3 etc) and then when I see 3 I instantly know that the name of the person starts with E? Well it be effective or will it slow me down?
Solid video...
I had remembered it when i was child cause , i used to play it lamo😊
What do u think about bijay shahi
Bro please make more videos :)
No
Lol, Tiger Woods just won the Master's so your comment was funny that he used to be the king of clubs.
But I really like your method. I used a similar process to memorize three graduate papers in theology for my comps. I broke down each paper into roughly 26 parts. For one I used letters in the alphabet. Another was numbers from 1 to 26. The third paper I used my room and objects as I walked around it that were in consecutive order as I thought about the room
Then just made wild associating images for everything.
How long it took to competely memories 1 deck for first time
But if it's the latter, then I would recommend focusing on accuracy since (as far as I'm aware) in competitions, it doesn't matter if you've memorised all 52 cards, if you make a mistake on the 6th card, then you're only going to get points for the first 5 cards
Happy memorising :)
Nice tutorial
one question: when practicing this... say, 52cards 6-7 times a day... do i need 6-7 memory palaces with 17 places?
to put it the orther way: do i have to create mem palace after mem palace to practice this thing a thousand times? because the images overlay each other when using the same palace.
thanks in advance :)
Is this stuff from
Jim kwik?
ok thx for the video Nelson :) all is perfect except the music : i dont like "the music" behind just because i want ear only you : )
Thank you🔥
do I have to make a poa for every card or just the the major system and allign it with the symbal of the card
I Nelson my dad’s name is Nelson and it means “champion“!
Does it really mean that? In what language? I never knew that.
Nelson Dellis
It sure does and he really was - World War II Marine self made man honest hardworking ingenious funny - you’ll get a chance to meet him in heaven :-)
And I think you have champion fibers as well!
Again love your content - very upbeat positive strong inspiring interesting - keep it up for us mortals please :-)
Here Is what I found:
www.behindthename.com/name/nelson
From an English surname meaning "son of NEIL". It was originally given in honour of the British admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805). His most famous battle was the Battle of Trafalgar, in which he destroyed a combined French and Spanish fleet, but was himself killed. Another notable bearer was the South African statesman Nelson Mandela (1918-2013).
www.behindthename.com/name/neil
And when you look up the origins of the word “Neil”:
From the Gaelic name Niall, which is of disputed origin, possibly meaning "champion" or "cloud".
Betty Jane Rest In Peace, Nelson.
Awesome 👍
Do you have a separate pao system for cards and numbers?
The number system is 00-99. The cards are only 52. So, yes, the cards are mostly a subset of the 00-99 images.
52 cards in 12 Min. - Thanks.
Thanks for that informative video
What happens to the memory palace every time you shuffle the cards. New palace or what?
Yes, it's good to have multiple memory palaces.
awwww no goood. you have two swinging actions! lol jk nice video.
I use PAO and i have my names, actions, and objects all down to one or two syllables. Despite the picture in my head being the REAL thing that matters, i found even having the P,A, and O down to short words has also helped me with regard to speed. While using a 17 location mind palace.
Isnt there one card left in the end if you use a 17 location mind palace? (17 times 3 = 51).. what do i do with the let over card?
Great ideas..
Bijay Shahi : Taas sui sui 😀😁
I think this method is useful but I found it hard to connect the person to the memory palace . I often forget the person who is performing the action
please, can you tell name of books you used to train you memory.
New subs sir ✌️
Lol. This Jack of Diamonds - let's call it... I don't know, Jack Black!
Divine power makes it possible......!!
Yup, what Nathaniel said. It's the same verb word technically, but in my mind, two completely different actions.
So you would typically avoid actions such as singing for instance? Cause that would be difficult to distinguish?
Does Simon Reinhard have TH-cam Channel??
No need, found it! 😁👍
Good video
