The mark of a great comedian. They're still both genuinely hilarious even though they haven't written the material like they would in a stand up act. It's just fly on the wall, mates chatting. I really like this format.
ageordieboy by this definition, David Mitchell is a great comedian. He doesn’t do stand up. I’m not quite sure I’d classify him as a comedian. I’ve always wished he did stand up, though, that would be fantastic.
I had a truly terrible day, and was so happy watching this show I think Sarah Millican is brilliant and I didnt want the show to end (even though she looks an ex girlfriend of mine) get her on again you're both very funny together best wishes for the future and the baby if you are still waiting, I hope to see more of your podcasts God bless 🙌
I love that her in conversational mode is so much more hilarious than her actual act...not that her act isn't funny, but there's just something about her in relaxed just "shooting the shit" mode that is so much better.
I love Sarah Millican! Definitely one of my fav comedians. I so agree with the point she was talking about how people nowadays feel the need to tell the the actual person their insult or why they don't like whatever it is about them. Start saying "they're not my cup of tea" instead, and stop putting down other people's interests etc.
Working my way through these, and this is funniest by far. 2 people who are obviously friends in conversation is so much more revealing than the usual staid, formulaic type interview. Excellent stuff Richard. Sorry to say though, Sarah definitely won this one.
No matter whether one likes her particular brand of comedy, there is no denying that Sarah has demonstrated to that comedic skill is universal. It has nothing to do with male or female, but anything to do with knowing who you are, being creative and, most of all, being confident in your abilities.
The thing I find perplexing is that anyone could think it needed to be 'demonstrated'. Do those people not have friends or something? Or only boring ones?
***** Alright calm down, we know comedy is in a bit of a state l8ly, but you seem to be living your tastes based on Stewart lee's 'character(s)' values, she's having a go and the images she casts to the audience's minds are quite funny, and she works the crowd well naturally unlike the robotic male comedians you listed who I also hate, although I don't think Rhod Gilbert is as bad as thee other 2, don't lose the point of comedy (to make people laugh and feel good) over set in stone moral values.
The cotton stuff is true. In the world of long distance trekking there's a saying 'cotton kills'. Only wear synthetics. Cotton dries super slow and you can indeed get hypothermia when that gets wet or damp (which it always will), even in pretty pleasant temperatures.
Massive fan of these podcasts but not really a big fan of Sarah and had put off listening to this one..... What a joy, she comes across so lovely and genuinely funny and Richard ain't to bad either..
Sarah Millican is incredibly hot. I know that means nothing to her, but honestly? She's physically attractive, magnified massively by her wit and charm and perfect amount of cheeky blue humour. A perfect example of why good sense of humour is the cornerstone of a lonely hearts profile.
Oh, Sarah, you are brilliantly funny! (I've only recently found you on social media--I live in the US.) I listen to you when I need to lift my spirits and laugh. Thank you for gifting me with your marvelous humor!
She is so down to Earth, witty, naturally funny, and genuinely kindhearted and logical... I'm even more fond of her than I already was (I love her shows that are on TH-cam). Him I don't really know apart of his appariences in Task Master... and I really do mean everything Sarah is saying in her comments of his own stories. He seems a tiny bit too egocentric and rude to my taste. Still, nice chat, I enjoyed watching it.
People that say they have never heard of someone… you have the whole of the I gerber at your fingertips to find out who she is… You’ve probably seen loads of tv shows Rebecca Front has been in, great comedy actor.
Actually the firing of Sally Morgans husband... I don't want to say because episode #133 of Skeptics with a K where I heard about it was removed and edited afterwards.
I think she was going to say Sally Jessy Raphael from when she mentioned the red glasses, but Rich went with Sally Morgan and so did Sarah. I know I'm right, so there.
there are negative nancies who post om my ads on social media. im a realtor and it amazes me that people take time to be rude rather than scrolling on. i always thank them for taking time to provide interaction on my posts.
This guy is really funny, but he's a terrible interviewer. He's more focused on getting a laugh himself and entertaining his audience (the mark of a great comedian) than helping his guest show the best of themselves (the mark of a great interviewer).
The podcast is meant to be a conversation rather than an interview (though sometimes it becomes the latter). For me the most fun ones are the ones, like this one, where the guest and I banter back and forth. But by playing it for laughs and creating a relaxed atmosphere, I am hopefully able to slip in a few surprising questions that make the guest reveal some stuff that they wouldn't do in a more formal interview setting. So I think I am a better interviewer than you realise, but am happy for you to see me a great comedian instead!
Richard Herring You are a great comedian, your timing is on point. However I think some interviewers would do well to remember that if their guest simply wanted to have a chat with them they'd be visiting them at home with a packet of digestives asking them to put the kettle on. They're on your show to work, to promote their brand, and you should help them do so.
Matty Hogarth I hope you're joking! The good thing about this podcast is that the guests rarely have anything to promote. But if they're funny then people might go and see their shows or whatever. We're trying to entertain our audience. I think the hit rate is pretty high for a show wit zero preparation. All the other chat shows rehearse and work out what questions are coming with the guest to bring up their favourite stories. This one gets unusual stories by not doing that. You don't know how lucky you are!
Matty Hogarth I think you're looking for chat shows rather than podcasts. Most podcasts leave a few minutes for any potential promotion and get on with the tea-and-biscuits conversations. Seeing as how the target audience comprises those seeking podcasts, Herring's done it quite brilliantly.
+Richard Herring I know I'm very late in this conversation but I'm a big podcast nerd and yours is my favourite! I'm not a big fan of chat shows as the guest usually has only 10 minutes to try and sell themselves. This often leads to great comedians trying to fit parts of their act into conversation which feels unnatural and forced. And what Matty doesn't seem to realise is that most fans would want to be present for that relaxed kitchen chat, which is what this podcast is for! Besides, I've actually come to like a lot of celebrities much better after listening to these conversations. Basically, keep on keepin' on :)
The PROBLEM with Mr Herring in this format is that he can't 'back-seat', (that's a problem if you're an interviewer...) In his own right he remains a good comedy stand-up, but he's GENTLY combative with all his guests and it frankly too often comes off as sour-grape snarky-ness. Especially when they best him at almost every turn. When an interviewer says. "Because I..." you're immediately on shaky ground... Obviously a LOVELY GUY, (and I mean that...) when he's interviewing talent at THIS level he needs to pocket his obvious ego. (Is Sarah Millican egotistic? Fuck, yes. But she camouflages it better...) Which explains a lot... xx SF
+Steve Sandford I'll expand... Media Personalities NEED you to like them, or indeed fucking hate them, (it's all PRESS!) but they give the ILLUSION of not caring what you think. Our attention validates them, particularly since it doesn't seem to affect them either way... (AND IT DOES!) To COURT our attention quite visibly, to ask us for a kind of affirmation, fucks up the contract. (Millican presents HERSELF (?) as JUST HER and fuck us if we don't like her...) Consequently we LOVE her... Stewart Lee QUITE DELIBERATELY sells himself as a curmudgeon/misanthrope/know-all/brilliant asshole who is impossible to argue with because he's cleverer than us in his own arena... (And so we fucking admire him!) While knowing he's not that. (Even HE can't deny the dichotomy in his own work that the audience see despite his denial.) And so we connect... BECAUSE WE DON'T BELIEVE HIM! (He's NICE, we KNOW this! He's just tiredly pissed off!) Or pretending to be? My point is that these two VERY DIFFERENT acts play TO CHARACTER, (and the character is IMMEDIATELY evident...) Even if it's not entirely REAL. And it shouldn't be real. (Art ISN'T and should not be!) Art makes us CONSIDER what is real. All GREAT COMEDIANS have perfected the stance that they don't care what we think. (And they do...) As they should. Don't ask us to LIKE you... (That's not the deal...) xx SF
Not EVERY one??? (A few, granted...) But I do CALL OUT Richard Herring because AS AN INTERVIEWER he seems to view himself as equal to/as interesting as, his interviewee... (We are NOT TUNING IN HERE TO WATCH RICHARD HERRING...) We watch because of his guests... The best Television Interviewers, (Parkinson, Frost, Wogan, Harty, Norton, the late Johnny Carson in America, et al...) know/knew that the particular skill set involved in the interview process is to allow THE GUEST to shine... (It is NOT a competition...) Herring is a BAD INTERVIEWER because it's patently apparent that he'd rather be interviewed than interview... (And who wouldn't???) He FAILS in his method and purpose because he can't disguise this... (I really think this is inarguable...) xx SF

She is so funny and seems to be so kind.
Look her up on twitter at christmas. She tweets for people who are lonely at that time. She's amazing.
Sarah is wonderful all the time.
Love her and her accent ,plus she very funny and charming
You are my new favorite interviewer, the pair of you are great and I have a lot of binge watching to do. Thanks for all the fun now and in the future!
He doesn't look like Brad Pitt, he looks like David Spade 😂
That's absolutely the top answer. Never noticed before and now can't see anything else.
Working my way through these, and this is funniest by far. 2 people who are obviously friends in conversation is so much more revealing than the usual staid, formulaic type interview. Excellent stuff Richard. Sorry to say though, Sarah definitely won this one.

***** HAHA! You are EXACTLY the type of person they were mocking in this video. How moronic are you!? haha

Rewatching again. I love an older RHLSP. This was a good one. More Millican.
The cotton stuff is true. In the world of long distance trekking there's a saying 'cotton kills'. Only wear synthetics. Cotton dries super slow and you can indeed get hypothermia when that gets wet or damp (which it always will), even in pretty pleasant temperatures.

Any person who has a website for pudding should be running the world. That was a great episode.
Sarah is hilarious
If you asked me I would say I prefer comedy not to be smutty and no swear words
BUT I find Sarah very funny. One of my favourite comedians.👏👏👏
My cup of tea.
This almost descended into Derek & Clive. Great chemistry.
Sarah Millican is incredibly hot. I know that means nothing to her, but honestly? She's physically attractive, magnified massively by her wit and charm and perfect amount of cheeky blue humour. A perfect example of why good sense of humour is the cornerstone of a lonely hearts profile.
I hope thats not actually you in that picture, cause in that case you cant really afford to call someone else ugly
samuel brook-williams So you're gay.Thats fine.
Ok,have fun
No, not joking. She's sexy as all hell and her voice is great.
Says the man with a face like a smacked arse.
This was a GREAT funny podcast, nice!

🫵🤣👍💯
She does have a great accent!
Hog town as the name of the store was also at one time the name of Toronto.
I love Sarah Milligan! She is hilarious and real! Never heard of Rebecca Front...awards or not.
People that say they have never heard of someone… you have the whole of the I gerber at your fingertips to find out who she is… You’ve probably seen loads of tv shows Rebecca Front has been in, great comedy actor.
She is hilarious. Great podcast.
25.11.14, sub'd to Richard only because of Sarah....Love you both,,,,just Her More!!!
Love Sarah Millican. Great energy and good chemistry with Dickie Boy.
LOVE Sarah :-)
Kerry godliman would really fit this format, funny and real
Good choice for Retro RHLSTP on Xmas Eve (which it is as I type). There's something about Sarah which is very Christmassy.
Love a Cornetto me! :P
(gotta be a choc/walnut tho)
Love you guys. 💚
The person who "had to die" was, apparently, Linda Smith, the really funniest person alive (& still is, even dead). Radio 4 was right.
Queen of chucklers! And she like cakeS!
She sounds like Donald and Davey Stott. Is she related?
Actually the firing of Sally Morgans husband... I don't want to say because episode #133 of Skeptics with a K where I heard about it was removed and edited afterwards.

Richard Herring does comedy, as religion does Remembrance Day Parades.
Sarah Millican was on desert island disks. Her song choices were ...interesting.
Millican! :)
couple of big units
"Ladies and Gentleman West..." nice shout out to Fred and Rose there Rich.
there are negative nancies who post om my ads on social media. im a realtor and it amazes me that people take time to be rude rather than scrolling on. i always thank them for taking time to provide interaction on my posts.
He looks very young here
Stewart Lee is not my cup of tea. but Michael Myintyre is just awful, cringeworthy. I have to change the channel when he's on.

Oblivion is at alton towers
He is funny? How did he get to this stage (pun intended)?
I'm going to drink every time she mentions cake, body image, or "knick-az".
See you in three days.
Are you still alive mate?
U ok hun? Thinkin of u x x
Rumour has it, he’s still drunk these six years later....
Which one's which?
Sarah sounds like Mrs.Doubtfire’s naughty sister
Roaddawg2476 Mrs Doubtfire was Scottish 🤣
Who is this Dickard Herring... 🥱🫸
I prefer Richard
@@Herring1967
Putting aside the insult, it sounds like some sort of culinary sex act.
Chemistry
His own entertainment for later on?? 😳😳
Raoul, they are just working through all the ones they've got at the moment
oh
I don't like cheese either. I have waited all my life to find an anti-cheese soul mate and she's on the other side of the planet!

+Steve Sandford Why are you on EVERY video of his podcast with your unasked-for self indulgent waffle? Fuck off.
hear what you're saying, but that's his whole schtick really isn't it? at the end of the day, i see it as a richard herring show, with a guest
