  • Thank you all for watching.
I had multiple requests for rig walk around on my vehicle and I was finally able to put it together. Your time is always valuable asset to you and I have tried not to waste it but in process I left out some items such as re-geared (4.88) differential and AEV cluster gage but I hope you were entertained.
Doesn't matter what you drive as long as it is safe. Get out there and explore, adventure is necessary.(OverlandBound)

Very nice rig. I am also a big fan of AEV. I pretty much have all the same AEV bells & whistles. Love the 3 inch pressurized water pipe. I'll try and incorporate that into my Jeep.
Enjoyed your review of your Jeep.

@@OverlandbyEric what’s my favorite 4 x 4? I’ve had so many and they’ve all been awesome, pending what I’m using them for but I would say overall Jeep is my favorite, for a truck ram 2530 500 diesel and I’ve recently ordered a jeep 392 and I have a feeling that’s going to be my favorite 4 x 4, I’ve had so many though from Hummers to GMC to bronco but I always go back to Jeep I’ve had 14 of them so that should tell you something and I’ve always driven ram trucks, I had a lot of JK‘s and my 392 will be my second JL. But it depends what you’re looking for if I was going to travel all over the country on lots of paved highway is long distance driving etc. I would probably get something comfortable for more simple off-road in for example the Ford bronco the jeep Cherokee but having the jeep Rubicon and everything you can do to it there’s nothing like it on the planet

@@jonluchessi1643 I agree with you 100% jeep specially rubicon is a sweet spot of all of the above as long as not too modified.

I have almost the same setup but a 2door. I fought front end problems for quite a while after I hit about 70k. I have the BFG ko2 35x12.50 on 18 inch FUEL rims so the first to go was the stock track bar bushing near the steering box which caused a log of random death wobble. After much research I went with the whole SteerSmarts setup. They have a heavy duty adjustable track bar (YETI XD) that is 3 times the beef over stock . Since I was adding that I went ahead and added their YETI XD draglink with the no drill flip kit along with a their YETI XD Tie rod assembly. While I was in there I also noticed some balljoint play so I went ahead and installed the TeraFlex 3442002 HD Ball Joints along with new unit bearings (probably did not that but it was apart so why not).
After all that I noticed a serious improvement in the front end firmness and handling but it still felt a little flighty over serious pot holes and bumps around the 35-45mph range. The stock castor on the Dana 30/44 is only 6 degrees and when you lift it makes that worse. Mine was at 3.6 which showed pass on the alignment machine but I was not happy so I bought the Core4x4 Tier 3 super HD adjustable control arm kit. All 8 of them and I can not express how much more heavy duty and well built all of these components are over stock. Just the control arms are 1.75" OD 5/16" Wall DOM tubing and weighed 90lbs. All of these as well as the Steersmarts are polyurethane bushing rather than rubber and all the fittings are greaseable as well which made a huge difference in firmness and feel in the steering and ride.
I'm 57 and I installed these one at at time in my own garage and I would not say it was easy but it wasn't just difficult either. patience, a few floor jacks and bottle jacks and it's doable. After I installed the front control arms I used a digital angle finder and adjusted the castor from 3.6 to 5.0 and wow what a difference. I can run over anything at any speed and the steering stays straight as an arrow. Even on the highway at 90mph you can drive with one finger. No vibration, no shake, no drift. I also do my own front end alignment. The tire shops (or at least mine) just don't do what's needed on a lifted over sized tire Jeep. The way I did mine was remove the front wheels, cut 2 35 inch piece of 1-1/2 angle iron and clamp them to the brake rotors perfectly level with the floor with the center of the angle iron at the center of the wheel bearing. Then measure the ends side to side. Mine was way off which explained the rippling on the edge of my tires. I set mine at 3/16 toe and now it's perfect wear. I also run my tires at 25psi on or off road with no issues and I drive pretty aggressive.
But I didn't stop there... Next was brakes and shocks. The stock brakes are not enough for the 35's so I installed the The Dynatrac ProGrip brake kit on all 4's. The stopping power is night and day. I actually have to be careful now or it chirps the tires and or will flat lock them up. I highly recommend this kit with the STOCK pads. I used their pads for a while and they get brake powder all over everything. Everyday. The Jeep stock pads will work on the new kit and I really can't tell a difference but no dust. BTW new stock pads are 237.00 a set for front alone.
The Bilstein 5160 RS shocks. So while I was under there I noticed two of the Bilstein shocks were leaking all over place. With only 20K on them I called BS and they did not help me that much and after reading some other forums it seems they wear out pretty quick so I decided to make the jump and buy the Teraflex Falcon 3.3 shocks. These bitches are expensive and I did not like them at first but after playing with the adjustable settings on them which you can do on the fly. I found the sweet spot. Set the rears to soft and the fronts to 2.8 seems to be just about right for all around. and last but not least I notice my boots were torn on the stock rzeppa joints on the front and rear drive shaft so again (not just big fan of Teraflex) but I went with the Teraflex high angle front and rear rzeppa drive shafts. So far so good. No issues.
The rear is a 1 to 1 swap. The front you will have to remove and replace the yolk on the front diff which is kinda a pain in the ass. The front rear bolts right up.
So after all of this work I have driven another 28 thousand miles with ZERO issues. Haven't had to touch a thing. I sit at about 4 1/4 with the AEV dual sport SC RS lift springs. but I run a light jeep. It's a little stiff but it corners well and rides very smooth on the highway. I thought about softer springs but then you lose cornering and induce sag after a while. Hope that helps.
Sorry for the long post :)

Hi Bob , thanks so much for taking your time and sharing your years of experience with us . It takes years of try and errors to get there. Here is summary of Mr. Green’s list
1 Drag link:Yeti XD (no drill flip kit w/ shock)
2 Tie rod : Yeti XD
3 Ball joints: Tera Flex 3442002 & bearing
4 control arms : 4X4 Core Tier 3 super HD arm
5 Brakes : Dana track pro grip disc and pad
6 Shocks : Tera flex Falcon 3.3 adjustable
7 Shafts : front and back Tera flex (Rzeppa style)
Everyone could benefit from this info . To be truthful I had Dana track brakes and steer smart in my Amazon cart for a year already but never finalized it. Rest the info is so valuable thanks for sharing.

@@OverlandbyEric No prob, it was just morning coffee and boredom :)
Actually I ran across one of your comments on another channel while I was gathering info on this weekends project. clicked on you and notice we have a similar setup. This weekend I installed a new Warn synthetic Zeon 10S in the Jeep. What a major pain in the ass!!. Not sure if the 12S or other vendors are any larger but the Zeon 10S fits in like a glove with about 1/4 inch to spare on all sides. Didn't really need it, but what was in there was old and steel cable. I've only had to use a winch less than a dozen times but It's nice to know you have the security. I just retired last year so my goal is to see how much money I can waste building my Jeep :) so far it's working. Just Empty Every Pocket.

    • @OverlandbyEric
      @OverlandbyEric  2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@jamescole6846 Yes ! I remember installing my first one by myself. If found out I had to install the winch on bumper and lift it all together to attach to Jeep. They are such a pain. :)
But like you mentioned it’s sometimes needed just to keep you from rolling or rescue others.
It does empty every pocket 😀but that’s our passion and if you look around everyone spends hi/ her money differently . Ours help economy greatly 😆.
Next episode is about a hidden gem north of Los Angeles and still under editing will be out soon . Stay tuned I’ll do give aways around thanks giving.
