You were two people visiting George in his own home. One could have easily distracted George while the other could have gone looking for the TWOW manuscript. So I see a lot of missed opportunity in this interview.
Was anyone else shocked about how much lore George went into about Valyria?? I have watched so many interviews over the years and have never heard him say "I haven't really gone into this yet in the books but-" and then lore dump. Incredibly cool, even if it wasn't that much.
He does have a point. Canon is well, not useful as an idea. And GRRM is right about history. History is literally a Lie we tell ourselves. For example, Smedley Butler, Two Time MOH recipient, Major General, USMC is famous for being an two time MOH recipient, but what isn't well known is he wrote a book called "War is a Racket". He also stood up for "The Bonus Army" in the great depression. He was also asked to lead a coup against FDR but instead turned in the Coup leaders, one of which was DuPont, of the DuPont Corporation, and the other was Prescott Bush, Father of George Bush and Grandfather of George W. Bush.
Yes, but he still didn't answer the question.. The guy who asked it bothered to specify the question for the House of the Dragon series because of the specific story angles compared to the series (Mushroom/The Meisters)...
Which makes sense to an extent but canon is still relevant. You can't start a series of books by establishing that physics work exactly like they do in reality and then four books later say it doesn't.
he seems like such a lovely man, he probably could talk for hours and hours if he was allowed. lovely interview, no one else could have done a better interview
“Their version of Euron Greyjoy is day and night from my version of Euron Greyjoy…” understatement for the ages… him and Doran Martell are my two favorite characters in the books, that probably says everything that needs to be said about how I liked the show.
Book Euron: Lovecraftian Sauron with a flair of Evil Pirate (perhaps Blackbeard) mixed in him. Show Euron: A finger in the Bum! Book Doran: Melancholic Enigma who seems to have hundreds of schemes and plots underway. Always two step ahead of his family members, keeps the sand snakes in check. TV Doran: Who? That guy who was killed before his story could even begin? The one who was killed for cheap shock value? That too by his own family. The Doran who couldn't even predict the most basic stuff?
@@wittweirdo3066 Absolutely... the Young Griff story and the build up to his reveal through Jon Connington and Arianne, book Asha's story, Lady Stoneheart... It's on a completely different level.

Aegon, the name the former prince liked so much he used it twice lol.. like all I could think about is all those George Forman’s out there..
I love how he comes so close to saying that he didn't like the show's ending without actually saying it. The fact that he had less and less of a control as the show went on was obvious but now it's confirmed and I think he didn't just give up creative influence to focus on TWOW but was actually pushed aside by the showrunners.
As an academic librarian, I loved George’s story about the building having different numbers of floors in different sources. I am itching to read this 1890s New York City murder mystery story that he mentioned. Super interesting concept. Given that he said that he did not want to attack fans while answering my question (thereby implying that he was kinda tempted to do it and was trying to refrain), I now get to say that GRRM personally attacked me! :D (Which absolutely is an honor. I am quite pleased). Thank you for including my question! He somehow managed to provide more and also less of an answer than I was hoping for, but it was fascinating all the same. I am extremely grateful to you for including it. I am sorry that I used up twenty-two minutes of this seventy-minute-long interview, though; I certainly was not expecting that and feel bad for having hogged so much of the time. I feel like I could just listen to him talk forever. He has such an incredible mind. Great recall it seems (I did not fact-check but he certainly seems to know his stuff), a lot of experience and random knowledge, a great appreciation for perspectives and the complexities of the world, and such brilliant creativity. He has enriched so many lives. P.S.: I am really curious about whether other Valyrian families had dragon dreams now. You asked (attempted twice, I believe), but he did not answer, so that unknown will be tickling at the back of my mind for the rest of its unanswered lifetime - or mine. :P
Wow! You guys did a fantastic job. George is amazing, incredibly well read and we never get to see him like this. I feel privileged to have watched this.
Lol, I find it funny how the interviewers start getting upset with the notion that canon doesn't really exist or matter. I do find it interesting how this idea of what is or isn't canon has become so incredibly important and contentious to so many people of different fandoms. I do feel like this is a relatively new phenomena. I doubt the people of ancient Greece concerned themselves much with which tales of Odysseus were really canon or not. Heck even more recently did audiences of the 60's and 70's really wonder or care if the bond of the Roger Moore films was the same Bond of the Sean Connery films?
Nobody bothers painters or sculptors to demand artistic output. They’re allowed to create for their own pleasure and choose if they’d like to share their work. That’s how we should be thinking about George’s output. And if it really bothers us enough, we should pick up a pen and write our own sequel. Maybe writing our own stories will be even more engrossing than reading someone else’s.
Love you guys...this is a great talk with George...n look at him a nerd just like us listening to talk radio...lol...thanks again for everything you do...congrats on getting so close to the legend...he's so comfortable with you

I've been waiting for this! Good stuff guys and thanks for sharing this monumental moment with us. I hope it doesnt sound arrogant to say I feel like I'm a part of these accomplishments of yours, Teflon's and Ertaç..."i knew them when" 🤣
So I’m not the only one 🤣
@@childofpersia1213 I've been telling people, "My FRIENDS interviewed GRRM and Corlys Sea Snake!!!". Like we sho'nuff homeys 🤣🤣
He's really just a big geek and it makes him very likeable
One thing Thst just came to me is like after watching ALL of his interviews is that George is one of the most engaging sci-fi writers in history lol like he LOVES geek-sci-Fi culture, to the point where there should be a TV show about HIM lolol and the dawn of “geek-culture/fantasy/TV/comic con etc” like a mad men but about the world that became what we know now, following a dude who is trying to just make it, all while working on the “next lord of the rings”
In a lot of funny moments during various interviews with this master, this one was the first to actually get me laughing out loud when he was talking about the different levels of producing.
Thanks for that!
The whole interview was amazing, but that canon question wow. Great job!!!
I just found your channel and will be following closely because of this interview
GRRM is the greatest author of our generation in the coming century his works will be viewed in the pantheon of fiction equal to any other mighty pen.
Sub well earned
This was awesome! I’m so excited for you for getting this opportunity and thankful that you represent the fandom so well (and didn’t just beat him over the head with things he doesn’t want to answer, answered 30 times before, or things that make him feel bad about timing on TWOW like he gets so often).
This was great! Thanks!
I forgot how much I LOVE you guys.. all because I got PISSED at how GOT ended and refused to even think about the Westeros.. until I decided to give HOTD a chance. So welcome back into my life, cause you two are my FAVORITE YT for all things Westeros.
Been a follower of HoW for a long time and I'm absolutely thrilled for you guys that this happened. Congrats!
R u kidding?!?!?! Congrats!!!!
Been watching you guys for YEARS. Well deserved!
Thank you for this! Personally I remember reading the last Harry Potter book after it came out and being heart broken that it was officially over so while I'm eager to find out what happens next in ASOIAF, as long as it's still a WIP in some way, I kinda find a peace/happiness/excitement in that. Extra happy that there are other shows in development too!
massive dub
Oh wow, congrats! What an achievement to be able to interview George R.R. Martin.... In person.. and on his own turf! So cool, I'm genuinely happy for you guys.
i am so sad i didnt stubmle upon this video earlier. It is a breath of fresh air and its wonderful to feel the interviewers being so excited and giddy about this wonderful man
I’ve been waiting for this patiently since I saw the photo posted. I KNEW it was grrm’s house! You guys are so blessed!
*whistle note*
I just love that guy so much. He seems so genuine and awesome
I like this interview a lot. The atmosphere and the mood here are so nice, that I often put this record as a background while do my work. So I get necessary balance between relaxed and tensed state of mind. Thank you all who participated in creating this record!
Just wanted to pop out from lurking to say congrats on such a great interview. Original and GRRM had fun.
This was awesome. Makes me really happy to see GRRM connecting with some of his strongest fan base.
And that thing he said about there being 2 groups of Valyrians, dragon riders and practicers of blood magic… Was that new information!?!?!?
Yesss
So the velaryons are practicing blood magic? Will there be a surprise in HOT D?
@@tobias..6688 I don't think it was the Velaryons. Everyone else is dead after the Doom of Valyrya though.
Congratulations, one of the best interview with GRRM. Sad that he didnt answered the best question about that dragon dreams
Very enjoyable interview, thank you!
Congratulations to you both! This was fabulous! Thank you so much for sharing!
For some reason it makes me very happy that George is a cat person.
I couldn’t imagine him not being a cat person. 😂
Hell yes! I've been looking forward to this!
The journey is finally complete, come full circle.
Love that Ashaya wore the “Dressteros” dress! What a great interview - major props to the team.
This was amazing, you all work so hard and it was very cool to see the payoff here.
Wow, this is something else. Good job HOW. Super impressive. Cool to see George recognize. Real meets real
What an awesome experience as superfans to get to sit and have a chat with the man himself, thanks for sharing it with us.
This was awesome and it looks like it was a lot of fun for you guys. I was really glad to hear you talking about some of the fan stuff bc it seems like for awhile GRRM was only getting the mean side of Fandom, so I'm glad that he knows this side of Fandom is out there as well.
I can't imagine anyone who deserved this interview more. Congratulations you guys. I'm so happy for you! I'll be in Santa Fe for a long weekend next month and the bookstore is definitely on my agenda. This was just an absolute pleasure to watch. 😘
I deserve it way more
Roy Dutrice was an incredible job orating ASOIAF.
Love Roy. RIP.
Big facts, I have listened to the main series twice through his voice overs
I read the series (so far) several times over but I finally listened to the Dotrice audiobooks and wow what a different experience but excellent nonetheless.
I am planning on listening to him, but i seen some comments saying he is not consistant with all the different voices sometimes confuses them, and it affects the flow to some extent, is that true? Or, they are nick picing? shall i not worry about about it?, i need some opinon from you guys.
@@visaeryon in the later books he does switch voices sometimes... and it was alottle annoying... but he was still great regardless
I love him so much. Hope he is healthy and happy and well.
Loved this. Nice to hear him talk about how he was confused by the way the show was going after he stopped being consulted.
(Which absolutely is an honor.
Congrats Curtis! Wear that badge with immense honor!
And I was thinking the same thing, his recall is insane!
Congrats
Thanks, both of you!
George is a sweetheart
Wow! You guys did a fantastic job. George is amazing, incredibly well read and we never get to see him like this. I feel privileged to have watched this.
I could never. I'd be too much in awe.
You two are an amazing team. George seems like a lovely and kind person. Thanks for sharing.
I remember one valar rereadis episode think it was Storm, you two said your dream interview was George well… Congrats no one else deserves this more
Great interview. It's nice to see GRRM staying in touch with and making time for the fans.
Excellent interview! Proud of you guys!
such a good interview , holy moly perfect subtitles indeed , it's 6 am where i am , i couldn't resist
Wow this is a really big accomplishment. You can be proud !
I'm proud of everything you guys are acheiving, keep up the great work!
Thank you so much for this!!!
Why can I only like this video once? It’s so good! Thank you both!
Thank you very much for taking the time to do the subtitles for this, it's really appreciated.
GRRM in all interviews: how many children did Scarlett O'Hara have?
Congrats long time viewer of your channel
Nobody bothers painters or sculptors to demand artistic output. They’re allowed to create for their own pleasure and choose if they’d like to share their work. That’s how we should be thinking about George’s output. And if it really bothers us enough, we should pick up a pen and write our own sequel. Maybe writing our own stories will be even more engrossing than reading someone else’s.
Love you guys...this is a great talk with George...n look at him a nerd just like us listening to talk radio...lol...thanks again for everything you do...congrats on getting so close to the legend...he's so comfortable with you
I have no idea how you kept your cool but you guys rocked this! Congratulations 🎈🎉🎊🍾👏🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
I think it would be absolutely incredible to have an audio book completely acted out. A different voice actor for every character. One can only dream
At least one for male voices, one for females. Books when the guy starts doing women voices , I can’t take those seriously xd
@@domingorubies656 god that reminds me of Kit Harrington doing impressions of the main characters😭
I gotta a million questions about the lore. Like more stuff about the Isle of Faces, and what went on there.
You guys got so lucky to meet him.
This was great! So happy you guys got to interview George and even go to his house! You three were wonderful.
Seven Hells this is massive, congratulations! Got to meet George briefly and explained to him that i grew up on the real Blackwater in Essex, England and he tapped me on each shoulder and knighted me, such a cool chill dude 😎
I love that line ‘we’re making this s**t up’ 😂 so true. Anyway great interview guys, amazing stuff!!
George is such a charismatic, interesting man! This must have been a dream come true, a dream of spring 😉
Congrats guys! That's amazing!I can't even imagine how amazing this must have been for you guy!
On audiobook readers Anton Lesser, who played Qyburn on GOT, has done a number of audiobooks notable are many Dickens, Phillip Pullman’s Sally Lockhart stories amount others, which have casts of hundreds which he pulls off in that acting style. Very fun to listen to.
Stoked to hear the Wild Card audio book creation is about to resume, loved the ones I've listened to so far, I enjoy them as much as the GOT books.
Happy to see u guys get this interview. U deserve it.
" I don't have any creative control "
Wow What an honor I am so happy for y’all, what an accomplished! 🙌🏼❤️🥳
This is brilliant! Thank you! How incredible.
I always think it would be wonderful to have George as a grandad. Imagine the games and world he could create in just one game! A maestro indeed. Also I would want to play with the miniatures but I don't think would happen 😂😂children and collectibles don't often mix.
