If it were me, I would do the first cull after 50 days and just keep the larger ones with longer bodies, thicker tail tubes and bigger heads. My reason being is that regardless of the patterns that they end up displaying, they will have (or potentially have) a nice body that at size will be a quality presence in a pond

4:18 I think it is a good tendency for them to grow by preying and repeating this process until they become like a ball.
Are they not back to normal the next day?

Interesting to see the home grown , maybe once they get more space they might grow out longer , have you thought of an aquarium light bank over the indoor grow ons , work very well 👍👍😀😀

Hi Kev, I wouldn't be surprised if the tiny one's end up on the menu, curious to see what the one's with the black spot turn into, blazing hot day no ice-cream van, mild day filming a video = ice-cream van lol, in school holidays I sold ice-cream from a kiosk at shows/festivals taking upwards £300/£400 I got paid £4 a day, stay safe

Cheers Rob, I grew up as a kid with a Family of Ice Cream makers. I could speak Italian better than English. the memories of making Teddy Bear Lollies in the 6 weeks Holidays still stay with me now. From the age of 5 until I was 11 I was treat as part of the family and to be fair I always get me Ice Creams free. You cannot beat Fredericks & Molinari's Ice Cream. In every koi spawning you are going to be getting smaller, disfigured fish. In a natural environment where food runs out, the smaller fish would act as the food source for the larger fish, being small enough to fit into their mouths. The larger fish are often called "tobies". This ensures the preservation of at least some of the offspring in harsh conditions. In a koi keeper setting where they have enough food to not turn cannibalistic they should be culled as young as possible to not take from the resources of those that have the greater potential. In my mind, even though necessary, it is a sad thing to do but just part of the parcel of raising fry. Nature both supports and takes life and being a human - a conscious extension of nature - it is not wrong for you to do the same - it just "is"
