This is my favourite Chicago song - because it is a memory. It is even better because it is not a memory of a single day, but of a TIME. I WAS a kid in the 70s & very often we would go to festivals (or Canada Day celebrations) at this very large park down by the water in Toronto in the summertime. I think of the warm sun, the brightness of it shining off of the lake, the green grass people would be lying on or sitting on & listening to concerts, eating the ice creams - sometimes sold by Italian men, the hot dog carts etc. They were lazy, lovely days, with all kinds of people gathered together enjoying the entertainment, the green grass, the summer sunshine & each others company. The day would last until late at night, when warn out but happy we would all go home. The brass instruments they use also help paint the picture with the light but bright notes they hit. I just love this.
Chicago came on the scene when I was a junior in high school, My steady bought the Blue Chicago album for my 17th birthday, 1970 and gave me a surprise birthday party. We married in 1973, and we just celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary. We both became forever Chicago lovers, and had one of their songs, Colour My Worlf, performed by a flutist who was a classmate, at our wedding. It was played again at our 50th Anniversary surprise party, as we dance to it. It’s been a 25 or 6 to 4 moment, telling you all of this.
To me, Chicago is the Terry Kath era, 1967-1978. After Terry died, they lost their rock and soul guiding influence and went down the road of mellow pop ballads. Dig up the debut album as The Chicago Transit Authority and play "Poem 58". Nine minutes of PURE FUNK led by Terry Kath on guitar, Danny Seraphine on drums, and Peter Cetera on bass. The first half is an instrumental jam that will blow you away. When Jimi Hendrix saw them playing at the Whiskey a Go Go in Hollywood, he met them between sets and told them "you guys have a horn section that sounds like one set of lungs, and a guitar player (Terry Kath) that's better than me! You want to go on the road?" Chicago said hell yeah, and they became his opening act on the tour of stadiums and arenas.
Hey Twon , that was marching band music . Every band played their music at halftime. Great instruments . Fantastic sound... always love your music reactions.💯🔥🎺
Always fun to watch you groove out on a song like this one. Takes me back to my childhood. Sitting with friends on the shag carpet in a circle around the record player. Watching my friends groove out like you do. Great times and all smiles. Innocent fun.
This was the sound of me being 18 years old😊. Memories. And I just have to say...love the hosts vibe. He's personality. (He was really trying to like this tune but watch his review of the Righteous Brothers and you'll see him really appreciating the music)
Great song. Brings back memories for sure. Chicago was always good. Great reaction my friend. ❤ music was short back then for radio play. Usually around three minutes.
It's hard to find fault with Chicago, their vibe their groove, melodies and their horn section, you can't help but love 'em! Many more beautiful songs for you to react to. Chicago reminds me of happy, sunny days as a child. Part of the soundtrack of my life, along with Earth, Wind and Fire, another Chicago area group with ties to the band Chicago. I look forward to more of your reactions to their music. May I suggest Old Days, Make Me Smile, Color My World?
Here's a suggestion, You can see 4 OG's of Music in 1 video that has almost 10 million views racked up. "Charlie Wilson - No Stoppin' Us ft. Babyface, K-Ci Hailey & Johnny Gill (Official Music Video)"
Nice reaction. Hi Twon. Hope you're having ok. Got a request...and I haven't asked for one since I Just Wanna Make Love to You...the request is Over the Rainbow by Israel Iz Kamakawiwoole. I heard it and I was put in a trance. Thanks man.❤❤
the groove and musicality back in the day is fire

🌸 this is happy music, baby
Up next: dialogue by Chicago. Make sure you find the full version. My favorite song ever
Chicago for me was sophisticated soft rock. It was for the older crowd, 18-24 years old. I grew up in the 70s and was more into Seger.
You remind me so much of Taye Diggs. Both uber-handsome.
I think it was the Fourth of July

Can you dig it? was a popular saying at the time
Can you dig it? Yes I can.
You're a good listener; you pick up a lot of what's going on in the song.
