He is my patron Saint. My name is Nektarios! I love his faith in the face of the slander and persecution he was up against. His writings are so easy to read and yet complex.
I saw the movie "Man of God" last month. Retreat at an old monastery in Albania near Greece. We were all greatly inspired. I didn't know that the movie left out miracles. Aris Servetalis did play Nektarios as a little somber. Thank you for these videos, Fr. Paul. I pray for you each day!
I am so grateful for the movie, Man Of God, which introduced me to St. Nektarios. I, too, am moved by his life and his example. May he keep us all in his prayers, and his memory be eternal.
I totally understand it Father. I too was raised Lutheran and found Orthodoxy after a Masters of International Relations from Tulane and later UCLA while a career Marine. Wow. Christ steps in and changes it all. So grateful for His love as I wasn't looking. So glad Christ was.
I want to thank you for this video. There are many Orthodox apologetic channels on TH-cam, but what is lacking are spiritual Orthodox channels. Our saints are not just people who we pray for our intercession. They are people who are meant to be our heroes and mentors. By reading and learning how our saints lived, we are to draw inspiration from them and copy them.

I never tire of hearing about him, which is probably good since i live 20 minutes from his shrine in Covina, CA, which you shared about. Although its not my parish, i do attend once in a while for paraklesis service and their patronal feast! I'm sure Fr. Demos would love to hear from you.

I was born into the Russian Orthodox faith - in my twenties left the church and returned recently . I have been overwhelmed on the Beautiful and deep spiritual teachings of the faith . I’m excited to keep working and learning in becoming a better Orthodox Christian . I recently visited Salt Lake City and knew of your church . I stood outside of your church - on Nov 27 and said a prayer for you in deep gratitude for all you have done for me spiritually. Thank-you for your prayers and spiritual knowledge. I attend a most beautiful Cathedral in Chicago -St George Orthodox Cathedral. My spiritual father is like you loving and caring . I am blessed in many ways .
The first icon of a saint I got was of Saint Nektarios. I discovered him because of a meme video of Orthodox bird and Protestant bird. I decided to look up the hymn being used for the Orthodox part, Agni Parthene, and found who it was written by. Reading about his life was incredible.
You know him in the way that I know him...That is too hard to explain, but it's similar to your descriptions. He was my first best friend Saint, and has become our family saint over these many years. He has been "with" us through so many things, including preparation for my husband's priesthood.

i just want to say Father Paul, out of all the orthodox priests ive seen you smile the most. not being mean but i see what Saint Paul is talking about. “For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” and why he was always writing to be of good spirit to other bishops under his teaching. Father Paul you remind me a lot of St. Paul with the type of edification you do
I am no priest but work on making a prayer rule and sticking to it no matter what, often praying in times of distress will teach you what you need to know. Add on to the prayer rule over time, but do not be too eager. Reading about the saints is often a great place to find inspiration for new forms of prayer. Ask the theotokos and the saints you read about to pray for you, and say the jesus prayer everytime you sense that you have had an incorrect thought or action. Think of doing these things not as a chore, but as a means to improve your discipline, and eventually to accumulate grace.
With Gods help, our passions disappear in a way we dont even see first hand! Only in hindsight do we truly see Gods hand in our lives, it may seem hopeless that we can rid ourselves of passions, yet we may be surprised when they are taken from us and we ascend to sainthood! A way known only to God, not with human logic
